AFL Round 14 Preveiw: Saturday Night Games

Sydney vs Collingwood, ANZ, Sat 25th June, 7.10 pm

Last time: SYD (71) def by COL (96)

Sydney

In: Paul Bevan, Jesse White, Andrejs Everitt. Out: Shane Mumford (suspended) Lewis Jetta, Alex Johnson (Calf)

Collingwood

In: Dane Swan, Dale Thomas. Out: Simon Buckley (Groin), Alex Fasolo

Collingwood have won their last 9 against Sydney, with 5 of those at ANZ so the ground will not be an issue. With Swan returning from Utah and Thomas Back from suspension i cant see any reason why this trend will not continue. Both sides are pretty much at full strength except for their ruckmen, Jolly is still out and Mumford has been suspended from the game. The only hope I can see for Sydney is that the Pies have come off the bye which has troubled a lot of sides this year. Collingwood lost to the unbeaten Geelong after coming of the bye earlier in the year and having a slow first quarter. However I don’t think this will have any impact on the game, expecting the pies to be fresh from the rest and have a good game this week. Harry O’Brien was in hospital during the week with some sort of reaction problem but is expected to be right to go for the game tonight.  Sydney got done by Carlton last week who were too strong in the third quarter when the game was on the line.

Joe’s Bet: Collingwood over 15.5 @ 1.35 (Sportsbet)

Fremantle vs Brisbane, Paterson Stadium, Sat 25th June, 7.40 pm

Last time: BL (92) def by FRE (94)

Fremantle

In: Sandilands, Palmer, Bradley, Roberton, Silvagni, Josh Mellington (New).  Out: Grover (Quad), Hinkley, Bucovaz, Van Berlo, Crichton, Griffin.

Brisbane

In: Raines, J O’Brien, Retzlaff, Naill McKeever (New). Out: Clark (ankle), Drummond (Sore), Collier, Banfield (Hamstring), Green

Sandilands is back in and desperately needed for the dockers who have lost 9 of their last 10 without him by an average margin of 56 points. They still have some injury problems but some good inclusions this week will strengthen the side which was terrible against Melbourne last week. Barlow has hit the ground running returning from that nasty injury last year and is helping to pick up the slack left in the midfield with Mundy out injured. Not so good news for Brisbane with injury troubles continuing, Clark, Drummond and Banfield will all be missed. The Lions went down against Richmond last week  by about 5 goals. The lions have a pretty good record against Fremantle and don’t seem to mind travelling to Perth. Freo got up by 2 points in round 1 at the Gabba when a poor umpiring decision cost the injury riddled Lions the match.  Jonathon Brown went on record this week as saying that the game is in danger of going soft. He was sidelined earlier this year after a collision with Luke McPharlin when these sides met. Brown is going to have to win that battle this week and kick a bag if his side is going to get up. However I think Fremantle will be too good this week for a struggling Brisbane Lions team.

Joe’s Bet: Most Goals in Match – Jonathon Brown @ 5.00 (Centrebet)
