What is Skrill? (formerly known as Moneybookers)
Skrill is popular with bookmakers as a deposit/withdrawal method. For Australians using overseas bookmakers it is arguably the best way to transact. Skrill is a UK service that facilitates payments and money transfers through the Internet. It was founded in 2001 as “Moneybookers”, although the service has since been re-branded as “Skrill”. Skrill serves as a secure way to send money to another person or company without having to share your financial details. The service is regulated by the Financial Services Authority of the United Kingdom.
Australians can deposit funds into their Skrill digital wallet by credit card, bank transfer, or POLi. Withdrawals can be made by bank transfer or cheque.
The Skrill fee schedule is as follows:
Deposits:
– Bank transfer: FREE
– POLi: FREE
– Credit card: 1.90%
Sending/receiving money to/from another person:
– Sending: 1% (up to AUD $0.64)
– Receiving: FREE
Withdrawals
– Bank transfer: AUD $2.31
– Cheque: AUD $4.49
Why use Skrill/Moneybookers to transact with online bookmakers?
The main reasons are that your payments are acknowledged by the bookmaker instantly and it avoid the hassle of sending in a scanned copy of your credit card before making a withdrawal. Skrill also is more secure because you aren’t sharing financial details with the bookmaker. Australians can make deposits using POLi into Skrill.
