Race 7:
Will be a close run race between the top picks. BANISH Has won two from four this time in including a Cranbourne F&M race last start. Rates highly with Craig Williams aboard. Hard to beat. SPEEDWAY Easy Newcastle winner two runs back and held up at a vital time at Caulfield last start. Back in distance and expected to be a contender. GLAM GURU Won successive races at Morphettville earlier in the preparation and hasn?t been far from the winner last two. Winning chance. PAGEANTRY Finished in the middle of the pack last start at Flemington but did work in the run. Serious player from an ideal gate.
Race 8:
Anticipating a truly run race so don?t rule out backmarkers. BURNING FRONT On a seven day back-up after finishing runner-up in the Moonga at Caulfield last start. Has won three from five this track. Rates as one of the key chances. ANTONIO GIUSEPPE Finished four lengths back in the Metropolitan last start at Randwick and gets the blinkers back on. Back in distance a query but expected to be a contender. LUCKY HUSSLER Finished worse than midfield last start at Caulfield but was held-up at a crucial stage. Drops 2.5kg from last run. A winning chance. IT’S SOMEWHAT Ran 10th last start at Caulfield when resuming but will be fitter and drawn perfectly. Generally strong second-up. Commands serious thought.
Race 9:
WINX Chasing 22 straight win and three Cox Plates in a row. Champion mare and only bad luck will beat her. ROYAL SYMPHONY Finished on the placegetters heels in the Guineas last start hitting the line strongly. Looks suited stepping up to 2000m and nothing on his back as a 3YO. The quinella horse. FOLKSWOOD Group I runner-up in the UK. Strong winner of the Cranbourne Cup at first Australian start resuming. Likely to be on speed and goes in all the exotics. GAILO CHOP Led all the way to win the Caulfield Stakes last start. Will be right on speed again and goes in all the exotics.
Race 10:
Hard to split the top two picks. VIN DE DANCE Maiden winner in three NZ starts and placed at Caulfield at first Australian start. First try at this distance but races like the trip will suit. Will take a power of beating. ALOISIA Impressive winner of the Thousand Guineas last start. First try at this distance but races like the trip won’t be an issue. Gets all the favours in the run after drawing the rails. Winning chance. CLIFF’S EDGE Led all the way to win the Caulfield Classic last week. Looks set to get an uncontested lead and expected to be right up there.SANCTIONED Chased steadily in the Caulfield Guineas last start. Up in trip suits. A strong finisher. At least a place chance here.
Race 7:
SPEED: 3 may lead 7, 6 with 5 closer but doubt they go hard. BANISH won well against the pattern of the day at Cranbourne. She beat home Aloisia prior and acts like 1600m will suit her. MINTHA was left for dead when Aloisia sprinted in the Thousand Guineas but her late work was fine. Does she want further now? SPEEDWAY had backing in the Ethereal last week but was luckless at a key stage. The mile win prior was dominant. PAGEANTRY had no soft run last time and crossed the line with I’LL HAVE A BIT. She was not far off Banish prior and draws in today. TOUCH OF MINX isn’t hopeless at odds.
Selections 5, 2, 6, 4
Race 8:
SPEED: 3, 4, 5 all like to lead. 1 can settle closer from gate one. 8, 9 off those? IT’S SOMEWHAT made nice ground fresh in fast-run Rupert Clarke at 1400m and won Doncaster second up last prep, beating Happy Clapper. SOUND PROPOSITION ran quite well in a fast Epsom last time. He’s won five of his other nine starts at 1600m. LUCKY HUSSLER had plenty against him last time. He’s won at 1600m. BURNING FRONT looks ready to win. Level of pressure here at WFA will be the key (as well as track pattern). RELIGIFY is in that same boat. ANTONIO GIUSEPPE is good enough. 2400m to 1600m is the query.
Selections 1, 8, 7, 2
Race 9:
SPEED: 4 may lead 2 with 5, 6 off those. History awaits this champion mare WINX as she aims to be only the second horse in history to win this, our greatest weight-for-age race, three times. Her two runs here have been, of course, two Cox Plate wins. In one she broke the track record set by another turf legend in Might And Power, and in the other she won by eight lengths. The other thrice winner of this race, Kingston Town, was 7/4 to win his third. No such odds today for Winx, which defines her complete dominance! For trifectas: FOLKSWOOD, ROYAL SYMPHONY, HUMIDOR, GAILO CHOP.
Selections 8, 5, 9, 3
Race 10:
SPEED: 1 looks to get his own way. 2, 4, 5, 9 may be able to settle off him? ALOISIA had the right run but was strong winning the Thousand Guineas, running good time/sectionals for the day. She was only second up. She acts like she’ll relish 2040m. CLIFF’S EDGE will be tough to run over. He was strong himself out to 2000m last week. SANCTIONED went back in trip into the Caulfield Guineas, which was no bonus. He ran home quite well. SALSAMOR also hit the line nicely there. He too was looking for this trip to my eye.
