Race 8:
SESAR (6) was terrific first up and this looks a great target for him on the back of that. Very smart horse who showed big talent back in the spring and it would be no shock to see him really put it together now and become a household name. Betting likely to find him though. JUNGLE EDGE (2) is good enough to keep him honest and gets soft ground again. Just picked off last time but another brave effort. No reason to expect anything else. BANDIPUR (4) should continue to race well, though it’s not getting any easier for him. TRUE EXCELSIOR (8) and CLIFF’S EDGE (3) are good horses resuming. Betting around them will be interesting.
Race 8:
2. Jungle Edge (3 stars)
7. Miss Vixen (3 stars)
4. Bandipur (3 stars)
1. Scales Of Justice (3 stars)
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 8:
SPEED: 2 looks leader from 4,5 and maybe 8. SESAR was a brilliant return winner in high-rating race on heavy and sailed by JUNGLE EDGE there, he stays at 1200m which is some query and Jungle Edge does have 4kg swing on him today. SCALES OF JUSTICE resumes, he jumped out well and his last fresh run at 1200m he split Redkirk Warrior and Land Of Plenty. He is 2 for 2 on Soft ground also. He can win this! BANDIPUR was found to be lame in Monash so have to forgive. MISS VIXEN and SPIRIT OF AQUADA are chances.
Selections: 6. Sesar, 1. Scales Of Justice, 2. Jungle Edge, 4. Bandipur
Race 8:
1. Sesar (5 stars)
2. Jungle Edge (5 stars)
3. Bandipur (4 stars)
Race 8:
SESAR (6) Second up. Got the prize when winning last run at Randwick and will be well suited at the distance. Strong win bet. JUNGLE EDGE (2) Fought on well to win three runs back at Sandown and won’t be far away during the run. Rates a winning chance. CLIFF’S EDGE (3) Was fighting out the finish when winning two runs back at Moonee Valley and expecting to settle positively. Place hope. SCALES OF JUSTICE (1) Fresh after a break. Came in 3rd last run at Ascot but up against stronger competition today. Each way.
Morphettville
Race 1, No.5 Robbie’s Star – 4.5 stars
Race 7: Behemoth, saving on Assertive Approach
Race 7:
Always an interesting race each year is the Lightning Stakes. BEHEMOTH (1) last ran in the Goodwood and really should have won it. He flashed through and wins in another few strides. Might just be better than them. LANIGERA (11) was dominant winning a maiden in NSW. Must have done well to head straight into a black type race. ASSERTIVE APPROACH (4) is an improving horse. He’s led both times and won easily at Sandown. Big hope. ZIZZIS (6) can’t be knocked getting back on track. She wants it damp. TEQUILA TIME (2) runs honestly but hasn’t won for some time.
Race 7:
3. Bold Star (5 stars)
1. Behemoth (4 stars)
2. Tequila Time (2 stars)
4. Assertive Approach (2 stars)
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 7:
BEHEMOTH didn’t have much go his way when narrowly beaten by Despatch in The Goodwood here in May. He comes into this off the back of a Murray Bridge trial win. Plenty of speed on up front will help his chances, expect to see him finishing hard over the top of them. ZIZZIS returned to form with a last to first win at Sandown in June. She has since been freshened. ASSERTIVE APPROACH looked good winning at Sandown on a heavy track when resuming. He’ll be fitter again. TEQUILA TIME has been involved in close finishes at his past two outings.
Selections: 1. Behemoth, 6. Zizzis, 4. Assertive Approach, 2. Tequila Time
Race 7:
1. Behemoth (5 stars)
2. Lanigera (4 stars)
3. Assertive Approach (3 stars)
Race 7:
BEHEMOTH (1) Had a break from racing and returns to competition here. Good show to place 2nd last start around here and will be hitting the line strongly. Has to be strongly considered. ASSERTIVE APPROACH (4) Second up from a break. Was strong to the line when winning last start at Sandown but rising in class. Likely threat. EXCESS FUNDS (10) Having second run back from a spell. Winner last run at Sandown but facing a stronger class here. This field suits. ZIZZIS (6) Got the cash when winning last time at Sandown but up in class. Looks a good chance of finishing in the money.

Race 9:

Race 7: Seaway each-way
Race 7:
SEAWAY (6) resumed nicely with a fifth in the Civic Stakes behind Gaulois. Got caught wide with no cover up near the speed on that occasion however still fought on well. Will be fitter and is yet to run out of the money from three prior second up outings. Profiles as a strong each way bet. Stablemate ECKSTEIN (3) has recaptured form since arriving at the Chris Waller stable. Came from well back to finish sixth in the Tatt’s Tiara before beating a number of the same rivals she faces here in the Winter Stakes a fortnight ago. Travelled wide on that occasion. Drawn to get a much kinder run. Would prefer GAULOIS (5) on rain affected ground after showing his prowess on heavy going by winning the Civic Stakes and running second in the Winter Stakes. Regardless, will be working into calculations. STAMPEDE (1) shapes as a sharp improver second up and out to 1500m. NEW TIPPERARY (4) is also capable of improvement. Struggled in the Winter Stakes however performed well fresh behind Gaulois.
Race 7:
6. Seaway (3 stars)
5. Gaulois (3 stars)
3. Eckstein (3 stars)
2. Duca Valentinois (3 stars)
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 7:
1 and 9 to set the tempo in the meeting highlight. 8 and 7 to pozzie handy as well. SEAWAY did more than enough to think he has a real shot at stakes success here. 2nd-up form is strong and he just needs a bit of luck to ensure he slots over for the right trail. Might come down the middle (even wider?) in the straight. ECKSTEIN asserted her authority last time back from G1 level. I looked her up and down and risked her there and I am simply too frightened to do it again.
Selections: 6. Seaway, 3. Eckstein, 9. Cradle Mountain, 5. Gaulois
Race 7:
1. Seaway (5 stars)
2. Eckstein (4 stars)
3. Gaulois (4 stars)
Race 7:
ECKSTEIN (3) Fought on well to win last run around here. Expected to be flashing home. Will be in the finish. TAKE IT INTERN (7) Did its best work late when 2nd last run at Eagle Farm but will be dropping in distance here. This field suits. GAULOIS (5) Won narrowly two runs back at the track and will be motoring home late. Has run into the money 3 from 4 attempts this preparation. Won’t be far away and represents an each way player. SEAWAY (6) Races well second up winning 2 from 3 starts. Has good tactical speed and will be nicely positioned. Betting may be best guide to the chances and each way is the likely play
