The Breakers last game, suffered a tight 104-98 loss to Melbourne. It was an ever-improving performance from New Zealand as they slowly start to show that they can infact inflict some real damage on the rest of the NBL this season. They won Q1, but proceeded to lose the next three. The scores for each ones respectively were, 30-22, 28-29, 23-27, 17-26. They were good, but just not good enough. Hampton may have had his best game in a Breakers jersey yet, as he posted a stat-line consisting of 14 points, seven boards, one dime, two steals and a swat. Ashley had a big 24 points, whilst both Webster and Hospon posted 17 each. Henry also had a nice 16 coming of the bench. Ashley also pulled in seven rebounds. Webster had two threes, as he also got three boards, six dimes and a block next to his name. Hopson got seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Henry also had two boards and two dimes, as he hit two from beyond the arc.
Cairns posted quite possibly the upset of the season. Coming of a tight loss to Adelaide, their hopes in this one may have been a bit lowish and dejected. But no, they certainly were not, they overcame a sizeable deficit to beat Melbourne 90-85 in one of the wins of the campaign to date. They lost Q1 convincingly, 31-19. But they bounced back to win the next three quarters, 22-14, 26-21 and 23-19. Jawai was insane of the bench as the big fella posted 18 points to go along with one rebound as he hit a neat 7/9 shots. From the starters, Oliver posted 17 points, Newbill had 16, Machado got 14 and Deng 10. Oliver also had 11 boards, two dimes, two steals and a block. DJ had, one rebound and two assists. Machado had eight boards, eight dimes and two steals. Whilst Deng posted a stat-line of 4/7 shooting, along with five rebounds and three assists.

Brisbane Bullets v Perth Wildcats7:30pm AEDT |

Despite Andrew Bogut being ejected for a part of the game, that didn’t help Brisbane much as they went down by 15 points, 94-79 to the Kings. The Bullets lost the opening two quarters, but won the second two in the comprehensive defeat. 19-25 And 27-13 were the q’s 1 & 2 scores. Q3 & Q4 scores were 20-19 and 27-23 in Brisbane’s favor as they put a bit of respectability back on the score-board. Sobey had 21 points. Patterson had 20 points. Braun had 13 points. And Magnay had nine coming of the pine. Sobey had two threes as he also got three rebounds and a steal. Patterson also hit two from deep to go along with his two boards and three dimes. Braun had five rebounds, three assists and a steal next to his name. Magnay got three boards, a dime and a swat. While Cadee, coming up against his former side was poor as he shot 0/5. This was quite a dysfunctional effort from Brisbane and something that they will need to fix ASAP before their meeting with Perth.
Two late made Kay FT’s sealed the very close 81-76 win for Perth over the Hawks. Perth lost Q1, but proceeded to win every single quarter after that. The Q1 score-line was 24-30. However, after that it was all one-way traffic as Perth scored 19, 19 and 19 points. And kept Illawarra to just 14, 14 and 18. Pretty decent defensively for Perth over those remaining three quarters. Cotton led the way with 21 points. He also posted seven boards, four dimes and three steals. Kay had 15 points and White 14. Kay also had seven boards, three dimes and two swats next to his name. White also got four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Hunt, Majok and Steindl also all had six points each.

S.E. Melbourne Phoenix v Melbourne United5:30pm AEDT |

The Phoenix’s last match was a 101-91 victory over the 36ers. They won two quarters vs Adelaide, drew one and lost one. They won the 3rd and 4th quarters, 23-15 and 31-26 respectively. They drew the 2nd, 24-all. And lost the 1st, 26-23. They currently sit an impressive 3rd on the ladder, after five games, with a 4-1 record. Roberson had 24 points and Creek had 18. Madgen had 15 and Pineau 11. Of the pine, both Gibson and Crockett were effective. They posted 14 and 12 points respectively. Gibson also had four boards, two dimes and two steals. Crockett had six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a swat in a very effective game for the impact bench man. Roberson was his usual, effective self as he had six from deep, along with four boards, seven dimes and two steals. Creek had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Madgen also got four boards, three dimes and a steal. This was yet another impressive performance from the NBL’s newest franchise.
Melbourne were stunned in their last game as the Taipans shocked them and handed them a 90-85, five point loss. Trimble’s return to Cairns was one in which he’ll look back on with regret as his former side showed him what’s he’s missing out on with the comprehensive team display. Melbourne dominated in the first quarter as they won by 12 points, 31-19. However, after that, traffic was all the way of the Taipans as they won the next three quarters, 22-14, 26-21 and 23-19 respectively. Melo did get 21 points, but no emphatic W to go along with it. Long also posted 21 points. McCarron had 17 and Goulding 10 points each. Melo also had four boards and three dimes, as well as having made three three-pointers from beyond the arc. Long had a massive 18 boards to go along with two blocks in a superb effort from him. McCarron had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Goulding only hit 3/14 and two of eight from three in his disappointing night!

Adelaide 36ers v Sydney Kings |

The 36ers last match suffered a 10 point, 101-91 loss to the Phoenix. They won Q1, 26-23. Drew Q2, 24-24. But they then lost the next two, which was game, set and match for them. 15-23 and 26-31 respectively. Johnson led the way with 20 points for Adelaide and Moore had 17. Griffin had 14 and both Randle and Froling had 11 each. It was a poor performance from Adelaide. Cohesively they’ll have to play much, much better if they want any chance of handing Sydney their first loss of the season. Johnson also had 13 boards, two dimes and a steal next to his name. Moore got five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Griffin had eight boards, a dime and two swats. ‘Handle’ Randle had three boards and four dimes on his stat-sheet. And Froling got three rebounds as he hit 80%, 4/5 of his shot attempts.
Sydney were strong and did it easy despite Bogut being ejected for part of the match in their 94-79, 15 point win margin over Brisbane. Sydney might have lost the games final two quarters or the second-half. But the damage had already been done in the first. They won the first two quarters, 25-19 and 27-13 each. The second two they did lose though, 20-19 and 27-23, but not by a hell of a lot either. Ware had 17 points, Louzada had 14, Bogut 12 and Tate 10. Being felt of the bench, Bruce had 12 and Kickert 11 points each. Bruce hit 4/7 from the court as he also got two boards and a dime. Kickert went a perfect 4/4 as he also got two rebounds and a block next to his name. Bogut had 11 rebounds and four assists, before he got kicked out for clapping back at the ref. And star man Ware, got three boards and five dimes along with his high output scoring effort.

In the opening game of last round, the Breakers easily disposed of the Hawks. Well infact they got smashed, 103-72, DAMN! New Zealand won every single quarter from start to finish. From q’s 1-4 the scores were, 30-18, 24-19, 24-18 and 21-17. Henry had a big 21 points of the pine. Both Webster and Hopson scored 17 points each. Abercrombie also had 16 points in what was a nice game from him. Henry also had five boards, five dimes and three steals next to his name. Webster had six assists and a steal, as he hit three from beyond the arc. Hopson got nine boards, two dimes and a steal. Abercrombie hit a perfect 5/5 to go along with a steal and a block each. RJ got eight points, seven boards, three dimes, a steal and two blocks. This was an impressive performance from the Breakers and one that if done consistently throughout the season, could infact see them make the playoffs. They’re low key a good team this season, let em display it against the Wildcats, yeah???
Perth posted two wins from two games this round. Before their tight five point win over the Hawks, they easily disposed of South East Melbourne, 110-79. They won every single period in the 31 point thrashing. Although some arguably poor ref calls played a part in this commanding win as well. From start to finish Perth won, 26-13, 32-22, 25-24 and 27-20. White had 17 points, Cotton 16 and Kay 12. Coming of the pine, Vague had 12, Wagstaff 10 and Norton 10. Vague also had three rebounds and one assist. Wagstaff had two boards and two dimes. While Norton got three rebounds, five assists and a steal. Outside of the bench trio, White got four three-pointers, along with two rebounds and one assist. And the flying man Cotton, added to his stat-sheet with four from deep + four boards, eight dimes and two steals. The Breakers are solid, but they don’t stand a chance in this one if Perth have a repeat performance here.

Illawarra Hawks v Brisbane Bullets5pm AEDT |

The Hawks suffered a heavy, heavy, 103-72 loss to the Breakers in the opening match of last round. Brooks scored 19, Andersen had 11 and Ball scored 10. Three, THREE! They had just three players score in double-digit figures highlighting how bad things are for the Hawks at the moment. Especially now so that Aaron Brooks is out for the season. If, IF, LaMelo stays, this season for Illawarra will be purely about his development and stat-stuffing as a young prospect and nothing else at all. From quarters 1-4 they put up just 18, 19, 18 and 17 points respectively. That was while they conceded 30, 24, 28 and 21 points. Safe to say they didn’t win a single quarter that game. Brooks also had two boards and two assists. Andersen had five rebounds, as he shot 5/6 from the court. And Ball shot just 3/13 and ended up with seven boards, four dimes and two steals. This was a horrible effort from the Hawks all-round.
Brisbane put up just 79 points in their defeat to the ladder-leading Kings at Qudos Bank Arena. Magnay hit 3/5 shots. Everyone else who attempted at least one shot or more, was under 50%. An absolutely dreadful effort on the players part. Braun shot 4/9, Gliddon went 2/7, Hodgson also 2/7, Patterson 8/17 and Sobey also 8/17. On the bench it was, Cadee 0/5 and both Singler and Te Rangi 1/3 each. HORRIBLE! This is the battle of two of the worsened teams from this seasons NBL competition. They also conceded 94 points and they lost the first two quarters by a combined 20 points. Q2 was an absolute low-light for them as they scored just 13 points and gave up 27 in return. This is where they lost the game.

Despite being shocked by the Taipans in their latest game, they also won the opening game of the round as they beat the Breakers by six points, 104-98. Melbourne won every quarter bar the first and the scores were as follows. 22-30, 29-28, 27-23 and 26-17. That big fourth quarter effort really sealed the victory for them, then and there. Long had 27 points, while both Melo and Goulding had 24 each. Barlow also scored 11. Long also had 11 boards, one dime and one steal. Melo got five rebounds and six assists, as he hit four three-pointers. Goulding got an even better five from deep, along with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Barlow got nine boards, as he shot a nice 4/7 from the court. McCarron also had eight points, eight dimes, seven assists, two steals and a swat.
The Kings beat Brisbane with ease, with ease, with ease, 94-79 by 15 big points in their last match-up at Qudos Bank Arena. And boy, oh boy, wasn’t their three point shooting on fire or what? Didi, Newley and Tate all hit two threes each. Ware had three. And of the pine, Bruce hit two and Kickert three. Both Kuany and Moller also had one each. Everybody got in on the act. This was a great performance from the ladder-leading Kings despite Bogut being ejected for the latter part of the game. And there was no Kevin Lisch either due to injury. They’re doing well the Kings and they don’t look like slowing down any time soon either. They are still 1st on the ladder with a perfect 5-0 record. And if they beat both Adelaide and Melbourne this round (very realistic), they be 7 and 0.
