Last Matches: The Breakers last game was a tight, five-point, 84-79 defeat to the Wildcats. New Zealand, while they won the first two quarters, they also lost the second two. The first two scores were, 19-15 and 22-20. Whilst the second two scores were, 21-31 and 17-18. It was good, but not quite good enough from New Zealand. Both Webster and Ashley scored 21 points each, while Henry had 11. Webster hit five from deep, to go along with six boards, six dimes and a swat. Ashley got 9/11 from two, to go with five rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block. Henry had three boards, four dimes and a block. Hampton was also strong, as he hit 4/7, in addition to getting, eight boards, four dimes and two steals.
A late Trimble and then Barlow FT each, gave Melbourne the tightest possible, 107-104 win over the Kings. They handed Sydney their first loss of the season in seven matches. Sydney won Q’s 1 & 2, 29-25 and 26-23. But United came home strong in the 2nd half, winning, 28-21 and 31-28. Ware scored 34 against his old side and had a point to prove, but Melo was pretty damn fire as well, as he went of for 27 points. He also had three boards, five dimes and a steal and a block each. Goulding scored 22, Long had 20, Barlow 13 and McCarron 12. Goulding hit four threes, as he also got a steal. Long was impressive with 14 boards, three dimes, one steal and one block. And coming of the bench, Ili scored 10.
Key Player: Melo Trimble. Against the Kings, he matched Casper Ware, shot to shot as he scored 27 points. But from behind the arc, he shot nothing but bricks, going just 3/10. For such an offence-oriented PG, this would be of a slight worry to him. However, he is good enough and talented enough to turn it around. And as he showed vs the Kings, he can play well vs the best the NBL has to offer. If we can see an improved performance (mainly from three) from him, then given United’s talent, expect to see them claim the win.

Brisbane Bullets v Sydney Kings7:30pm AEDT |

Last Matches: Brisbane beat the Hawks with ease last game, 83-69, by 14 points. The Bullets dominated the first two quarters, winning 27-15 and 26-17. However, the second two they lost, 20-16 and 17-14 as the Hawks fought back a bit in Canberra. Cadee scored an impressive 16 of the bench. While from the starters, Sobey had 18, Hodgson 15 and Patterson 11. Cadee was hot from deep as he had four threes, to go along with three boards and three dimes. Sobey also hit four threes, along with his five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Hodgson had nine boards and a dime, as he hit six of his nine shots. Patterson was productive as usual with eight boards and seven dimes. Magnay also produced eight points, seven rebounds and two stats coming of the pine.
Casper Ware lit up his old side for 34 points, but some late Melbourne FT’s meant it didn’t matter, as the Kings went down 107-104, in what was an extremely close and thrilling contest of NBL Basketball. The Kings outscored United, 29-25 and 26-23 over the first two quarters. However, they would go onto lose the next two, 28-21 and 31-28. Ware hit 10 shots overall, as he also had five boards, four dimes, one steal and one swat in his huuuuugeeeee redemption game against his ex-team! Of the bench, both Bruce and Kickert were great with 14 and 13 points respectively. Taylor also had five points, a board, a dime and a swat on his Kings debut. Tate had 11 points, while both Newley and Moller had nine each. Tate also got, three rebounds, an assist and two blocks next to his name.
Key Player: Casper Ware. This man is on a mission to deliver an NBL Championship to the Harbour Side City. He’s playing insanely well, as evidenced by his 34 points against Melbourne. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t keep his amazing, offensive form going against Brisbane. When the last played Brisbane, he scored 17 points and had five dimes. The man just wants to keep on scoring and scoring and scoring. A Ware effort with 20+ points for the Kings, will see them beat the Bullets with relative ease.

Last Matches: For SEM, their last match was a disappointing, 12 point, 110-98 defeat to Melbourne, in the local derby. The first time around, SEM claimed the tight and close victory. However, it was United who took the W this time around and with not much complaints from the Phoenix either. SEM lost every quarter, bar the 3rd. Those score-lines were, 32-26, 23-16 and 30-29. The Q3 score was, 27-25, South East Melbourne’s way. Creek led the way with 23 points, while both Madgen and Roberson had 16 points each. And of the pine, Benson had 12. Creek hit 57.1%, 8/14, of his shots, as he also had seven boards and seven dimes next to his name. Madgen had four boards, two dimes and a steal. Roberson had five rebounds, two assists and a steal. And Benson got, two rebounds and a block, as he made five of his six shot attempts.
New Zealand, in the opening game of last round, beat the Taipans by eight points, 83-75. The Breakers easily won Q1, 22-11. Q2 was a 23-23 tie. Q3 went in Cairns favor, 23-17. And Q4 saw the Breakers back on top again, 31-28. Webster scored 23 points, Hampton got 18 and Ashley had 14. RJ in a dope effort by him, also had two boards, a dime and three steals, as he made a very good six of his nine shot attempts. Webster had three rebounds, eight assists and two steals next to his name. And Ashley had 11 boards, as he hit a very good, 66.7% of his basket attempts. Both Henry and Majok, also had eight points each, coming of the pine.
Key Player: Kyle Adnam. Last season for the Kings, he was a live-wire PG of the bench who provided the Kings with a solid-backup. So far this season, upon his return to Melbourne, things haven’t exactly gone as planned. He scored just seven points last game. And two points vs ADL on the 27th of OCT. He also scored just four against BRI on the 13th of OCT. He has an amazing inside game, as he made 3/5 two-point attempts last round vs MEL. Utilizing that vs New Zealand of the bench, will help his side massively.

Cairns Taipans v Illawarra Hawks |

Last Matches:The Taipans last game, was a close, eight point, 93-85 loss to the Breakers. Cairns lost Q1, 22-11, in a big score-line. Q2, was a 23-23 score-line. Q3, saw the Taipans get back into the game a lil bit, as they won, 23-17, And Q4, they lost, 31-28. All five Cairns starters scored in double-digits this match. Oliver led the way with 23 points, and Deng had 18. Koi had 16, Newbill 15 and Machado 11. Oliver had five boards and three blocks. Deng had seven boards, a dime and a block. Koi had six rebounds and two steals. Newbill had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. And Machado had three boards and nine dimes.
The Hawks couldn’t fly at all in their sorry, 14 point, 83-69 defeat to Brisbane. Clearly missing injured, former NBA star Aaron Brooks to injury, Illawarra struggled a fair bit. Ball scored 19 points and Blanchfield 10 points, but they were the only Illawarra players who scored in double-figures in Canberra. Melo had two threes, to go along with his nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Blanchfield also had two threes, + three rebounds, an assist and a swat. Boone scored nine points and Ogilvy eight. Boone also had five boards and a block as the former Melbourne + Brooklyn man, hit four of his five shots, good for 80%.
Key Player: Sam Dech. This is one of those games, where if the Hawks play really, really well, then they could win it. And Dech should get some more time, now that there’s no more Brooks anymore. Somebody’s gotta step up, so why not him? If you consider that LaMelo and Blanchfield are options 1 & 2, let him be number 3? He had seven points and three boards in his sides loss vs Brisbane. He can also steal the ball and rebound a little bit as well. An uptake in minutes should make him an interesting player to watch vs Cairns.

Last Matches: Besides beating the Kings, Melbourne also smoked SEM last round by 12 points, 112-98. Melbourne won every quarter bar the 3rd. Those score-lines were, 32-26, 23-16 and 30-29. The one they lost was 27-25. Long went bang for 31 BIG points in this one! Goulding had 24. And both McCarron and Trimble scored 13 each. Long also had 11 boards, two dimes and a block as he hit 12/17 shots. Goulding had three three’s to go along with, three boards, three dimes and a steal. Melo had three rebounds, four assists and a steal. McCarron got, four boards, four dimes and a steal.
For the 36ers, they got pipped 98-96 by the Kings last round. Adelaide had a few shots to win it at the end, but they couldn’t quite hold in in the two-point defeat. Adelaide won Q1, 24-12. But then lost Q2, 33-19. They also lost Q3, 24-17, But they stormed back to win Q4, 26-17. And OT, resulted in a 12,10 defeat to Sydney, thus the close defeat. Randle scored 23 huuuuugeeeee points. And Moore closely followed him with 18 of his own. Johnson had 17, Drmic 11 and Griffin 10. Froling also had 10 of the pine. Randle also had four boards, four dimes and two steals. Moore got, six boards, two dimes and two steals. Johnson had 11 rebounds and an assist. Drmic had 15 rebounds, an assist and two steals. And Griffin, the final starter, got two boards, a dime and two steals.
Key Player: Eric Griffin. He’ll set a strong tone defensively against Melbourne and as well as that, he’ll hustle hard like he does every match. Before his match vs SYD, he grabbed eight boards vs SEM. He also shot 7/14 that game and had two swats next to his name on the stat-sheet. Before that it was 13 points and eight boards vs Cairns. + His three blocks. He swats, he rebounds, he scores and he’s a real competitor who gives it all he has. If Adelaide can somehow pull of the upset win, he’ll be a big part of the reason why.

Last Matches: 98-96 was the score as Sydney just scraped by the 36ers, as Adelaide missed a couple of late basket attempts that could’ve possibly won them the match. Randle scored 23 against his ex-team, as the Kings lost Q1, 24-12. They bounced back strongly to win the 2nd, 33-19. They also won the 3rd, 24-17. The 36ers killed it in the 4th, winning 26-17. In OT, Sydney just got by, winning 12-10 and thus the game. Bogut scored 18 and Didi 17. Tate had 16, Newley 15 and Ware 14. Bogut also had 12 boards, two dimes and two blocks. Didi had three boards and five dimes next to his name. Tate had eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block, as he did a lil bit of everything. Newley had eight boards and Ware three dimes, among their other stats.
Perth just got past the Breakers, 84-79, by five points in their last match. Perth lost the first two quarters, but won the second two. The first two scores were 19-15 and 22-20. But the second two were 31-21 and 18-17. Cotton had an of game as he shot 2/13 from the court. However, his team mates helped him out through, Hunt 21 points, White 18 and Kay 13. Stenidl also had 10 coming of the bench. Hunt also had 11 rebounds as he hit 10 of his 15 shots. White had four threes, along with hid seven boards and three dimes. Kay had four boards and three dimes. And Steindl got, two assists and a steal, as he hit four of his six shot attempts.
Key Player: Cotton. You just say the last name and already you know who it is. Man is famous in the NBL now and throughout Australia, etc. He rarely has an of game, but against the Breakers he did. And what better way to redeem himself then by coming up against another former MVP PG in the form of Casper Ware. Cotton is a shooter and expect him to be lights out against a Kings team who will be playing for the 2nd time this round.
