Race 7:
DIG DEEP (1) has been attacking the line hard in his last two runs and is ready for the mile now. Drawn out again but he’ll be charging over the top. SUPERSTORM (6) comes off a midweek Class 1 win but it was an impressive one against older horses and has Pike to ride. Can measure up. SPECIAL CHOICE (10) didn’t have much luck last week behind a smart one. Drawn kindly and must be respected. KAY CEE (9) and WIDESPREAD (3) are contenders too.
Race 8:
SAMIZDAT (13) reacted to the blinkers third-up for a strong win here three weeks ago and has drawn ideally for his first run at a mile. Smart and should measure up. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN (7) won easily at Kalgoorlie then the Northam Cup and comes here in peak form. Pike doesn’t ride but he’s a major player. THE VELVET KING (6) won well two starts back then just nailed late last time. Has won at a mile and will give a sight. REGAL POWER (12) and ACHERNAR STAR (4) have good each-way claims.
Race 7:
2. Jericho Missile (3 stars)
3. Red Can Man (3 stars)
9. Kay Cee (3 stars)
1. Dig Deep (3 stars)
Race 8:
7. Tellem We’re Comin (3 stars)
12. Regal Power (3 stars)
1. Gatting (3 stars)
15. Platoon (3 stars)
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 7:
Kept coming back to SUPERSTORM. Has taken an unconventional path to the WA Guineas, but I’ve kept a close eye on this fellow throughout and was really taken with the way he stretched out in his brilliant last-start win. He’s on a steep learning curve, but if he puts it all together he can storm to victory. RED CAN MAN showed plenty of fight to stave off Jericho Missile and claim the Fairetha Stakes. He maps ideally and has to be a major player. DIG DEEP deserves favouritism, but he’ll need everything to go right from the draw, while class fillies SPECIAL CHOICE and KAY CEE must rate highly.
Selections: 6. Superstorm, 3. Red Can Man, 1. Dig Deep, 10. Special Choice
Race 8:
The horse with a sense of timing is TELLEM WE’RE COMIN. Scored an explosive Hannans Handicap triumph, followed up by a dominant Northam Cup win. How he’ll perform without William Pike is an obvious query, but he’s in good hands with Brenton Avdulla, and if he’s kept within striking distance, his elite acceleration can propel him to victory. SAMIZDAT burst into calculations with an exciting Asian Beau Stakes win and this low draw enhanced his winning chances significantly. Must respect G1 1600m winners GATTING and BEST OF DAYS, and no surprise to see COCKNEY CREW run a mighty race out in front.
Selections: 7. Tellem We’re Comin, 13. Samizdat, 1. Gatting, 2. Best Of Days
Race 7:
Dig Deep (5 stars)
Superstorm (4 stars)
Special Choice (4 stars)
Race 8:
Samizdat (5 stars)
Tellem We’re Comin (4 stars)
The Velvet King (4 stars)
Race 7:
DIG DEEP (1) Did its best work late when 3rd last run at this track but up against stronger competition today. Should get going late. Top prospects against this opposition. JERICHO MISSILE (2) Won two runs back here but up against stronger competition today. Appears well in this. SUPERSTORM (6) Was first to greet the judge when winning last run at the track but racing in stronger company today. Well placed and has solid claims. KAY CEE (9) Brave effort to win two runs back at the track and has a great burst of speed late. Tracking very well this campaign. Can’t knock.
Race 8:
THE VELVET KING (6) Good run in the Lee Steere and will be suited by the extra trip. Rates on top. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN (7) Racing in great form this prep and is unbeaten at this trip. Can win again. SAMIZDAT (13) 4yo who looks to have plenty of upside. Nice chance at odds. REGAL POWER (12) Should improve from last start and will appreciate the step up to the mile. Each way.
