Last RD: O’Donovan scored his 6th goal of the campaign last round, via a 95th minute penalty, in Brisbane’s five-one thrashing at the hands of Sydney FC. From start-to-finish the Roar were absolutely annihilated by the A-League ladder leaders. Robbie Fowler’s side were embarrassed to the absolute maximum, to put it bluntly. Despite having 58% of the ball and six of 15 on target, Brisbane were kept to the solitary one. They also completed 86% of their passes, good for 482/560.
WU played out of their skins last round in the Melbourne Derby as they beat the Victory 3 goals to 1. Berisha scored a double against his former side, as he had goals in the 17th and 43rd minutes of the match. Kone also had one in the 24th minute. It was an especially sweet victory for them as they claimed the two goal victory after being a goal down early in the 1st half. They shot 5/12 on target despite only owning 36% of the ball. They also completed just 73% of their passes, good for 199/274.
What Should Happen: O’Donovan vs Berisha. At times this season both players have been on absolute fire. Then at other times they’ve just made you say to yourself, how the hell did they miss that? They are hot & cold players, but are both also very much the life blood of their respective sides. And both are renowned for their goal scoring abilities in the A-League and each will have their own legacy because of it. How these two fine men and players influence the game attacking-wise, will have to do a lot with which side claims all three points.

Last RD: The Victory were clinically outplayed by WU in the Melbourne Derby as they went down by two goals. This continued their horrible start to the season, one which has seen them claim only two paltry wins from nine matches played. Andrew Nabbout opened the scoring for Melbourne in the 14th minute of the match, but from there it was all down-hill for the Victory. They had a shot hit the woodwork and shot 7/19 on target, with 64% possession throughout the match. They also completed a strong 84% of their passes, good for 401/477.
Wellington continued their recent winning streak with a 2-1 win over the Wanderers. Former Red & Black man, Sortirio scored the opener in the 48th minute for the Nix. And Davila saved the day again for Wellington as his late 89th minute converted spot-kick handed his side the victory. That goal was his 6th of the season. The Nix had 49% of the ball and shot 5/14 on target. They also completed a solid 83% of their passes, good for 354/429.
What Should Happen: A Phoenix victory. When these sides last faced of, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Davila scored within the games opening five minutes. And if it wasn’t for a Toivonen rocket in the 66th minute, the Nix probably would’ve held on for a tight win. Outside of that, the Phoenix have won their past three matches in a row. The Victory in comparison have won just one of their past six games. These two teams are trending in the complete opposite direction and massively at that. At this point, it would literally be an upset if the Victory were to get one over the heads of Wellington.

Last RD: Sydney continued to extend their gap at the top of the table as they trashed Brisbane 5-1 last round. The only blemish on their performance was that they conceded a 95th minute penalty. Other than that, Le Fondre bagged three, Ninkovic scored one and former Mariner Trent Buhagiar scored his maiden A-League goal for the Sky Blues. They were simply awesome this game. They had 42% possession and shot 8/12 on target. They also completed 80% of their passes. That was good for 335/417.
The Mainers had a bye last round, so in Round Eight their performance ended in a woeful 2-0 defeat to Brisbane. They conceded goals in the 61st and 66th minutes of the match. The Mariners now have an A-League equal worst -5 GD as a result of the two goals to nil defeat. They held 48% of the ball and shot 5/16 on target. They also had a shot hit the woodwork. They completed their passes at an 80% rate. That was good for 353/441.
What Should Happen: A goal-scoring fest (that doesn’t involve the Mariners). Last round Le Fondre’s three took him up to a total of 10 for the season. Ninkovic has three. Buhagiar will look to strike against his former side and back up his maiden Sky Blue goal of last week. O’Neil and Barbarouses are also always lurking around as well. Ivanovic is capable of doing damage of the bench if his number is called. And the Mariners have a very, very leaky defence. Playing at home, I’d honestly be scared if I were you Central Coast supporters, I honestly would be.

Last RD: A win at last. The Glory breathed a sigh of relief as they claimed another win via their last round 3-0 victory over City. Former Melbourne boy Fornaroli had a point to prove as he matched up against his former side. And he let it be known, as he banged in the 27th minute opener, much to the delight of himself and his team mates. Delbridge scored an OG in the 47th minute and Mrcela bagged one in the 71st to round out the scoring. Perth won despite having only 38% possession. They also shot just 3/10 on target. They did however complete a respectable 78% of their passes. That was good for 282/361.
Western Sydney could feel slightly hard done by after their losing streak continued, this was via their 2-1 defeat to Wellington last round. Former Wanderer Sotirio scored against them and Davila converted an 89th minute penalty, which in turn gave the Nix the three points. Muller scored in the 64th minute for the Red & Black. The Wanderers had 51% possession and shot 4/15 on target. They also completed 79% of their passes, 351/442 in total.
What Should Happen: The Wanderers get a rebound victory. They need it to put some safety next to Babbel’s job with rumors flying around that he could get the sack any time soon. They’re close to falling out of the Top Six. Some of their players are under-performing. And after last weekends controversial one-goal defeat, you sense they’ll be as ready as they ever are for this one. With all of the Glory, Jets, Roar, Victory and Mariners anywhere from just one point to a single win of them in 6th place, their desperation should prove to be to good and to strong for Perth in this one.

Last RD: An unfortunate 85th minute goal to James Troisi handed Newcastle a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Adelaide last round. Millar scored the Jets only goal in the 48th minute of the match. That had leveled the scores at 1-1 draw. The Jets had 53% possession and very unluckily had two shots hit the woodwork. They shot 6/17 on target in total. They also completed a solid 80% of their passes. This was good for 331/415.
City had a great chance to solidify a Top Two spot ….. but they blew it as they went down 3-0 to Perth. Former City man Fornaroli opened the scoring for the opposition in the 27th minute and from their the flood gates opened in the three goals to nothing loss. City despite having 62% possession, shot only a horrible 2/13 on target. But they did however complete a very strong 84% of their passes. This was good for 501/598.
What Should Happen: City regain their confidence. Maclaren, Noone and Brillante all featured for Melbourne last round. Yet they shot a dismal 2/13 on target. What went wrong??? Newcastle as good as they are in some areas, will or should be thoroughly outplayed by the A-League’s second best side in this one. They’ll (Newcastle) be used as a confidence-booster for the 2nd best side after their heavy defeat to Perth last weekend. Look out in this one Jets fans, City are coming and coming in hard.
