The following is a survey of Australian racing tips for Saturday, February 1. The focus is on the Group racing at Caulfield and Randwick. The highlight of the day is the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (Race 7) at Randwick. More tips and previews will be added as they become available.

ARYAAF (3) could be very smart. She ran about late in the piece on debut, showing signs of her inexperience, but she also showed signs of her talent. Hammered a field of well-regarded horses and the runner-up has proven smart since. The one to beat. MILDRED (2) was very solid and professional through the spring and have to think that she will run well again. IDEAS MAN (1) won well enough on debut and has a nice profile coming straight to this. CASTLECOMER (4) was well held on debut but had excuses and recent jump out looked smart. Think he could come back a lot better. Respect LETZBEGLAM (8) off a win.
Race 7:
DALASAN (2) was unbeaten over 1200m last prep and his fresh win over Scales Of Justice leaps off the page. Meets a couple who bettered him in the Guineas here but at 1200m he appeals as being very hard to beat. Think there is more to come from him. SUPER SETH (1) is two from two fresh and three from four around Caulfield so for all that it is easy to think that he will be better getting back to the mile where he peaked to win the Guineas there is plenty to say that he will run a big race fresh at 1200m. His stablemate GROUNDSWELL (3) finished third in that Guineas and is still largely unexposed. He should run well. SPEND (6) is the X-factor. High rating debut effort worked out well and no telling the heights he can scale with the profile that he brings to the race.

Liked the way ARYAAF accelerated despite wanting to run about when winning on debut. Will be interesting to see how she gets around the bend at Caulfield but she looks smart and can make it two from two. MILDRED was brave winning her first two starts from the front in her first prep. She comes off a solid trial win and will take catching from the corner. IDEAS MAN was strong late winning at The Valley on Cox Plate day. Had break since and must include in winning chances. CASTLECOMER was very green and shinsore when a beaten favourite on debut. Look for vast improvement.

Race 7:
DALASAN is a class colt resuming. He won the Group 3 SAJC Spring Stakes with something in hand first up last prep, beating Scales of Justice and may steal a break at the 200m. SUPER SETH was enormous from the back winning the Caulfield Guineas. Dominant this track/distance fresh last prep, he’ll be powering home. GROUNDSWELL won his maiden first up last time in work then progressed to be competitive in quality races throughout the prep. Can’t leave him out fresh. FREE OF DEBT was Blue Diamond-placed this track in his first prep. Has the speed to sit in the first couple and take some catching.

Race 1:
Randwick ends up being the host of this Expressway Stakes card and we have the rail in the 3 metre position. Cooler temps are sure to hover over Randwick but we will still hit the mid 30s. We open up with the 2YO races and only small fields have been drawn into these. Indeed, these fillies in the first are brought to you by only two stallions! AWAY GAME took a sit to good effect in QLD but, even from the outside gate, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her end up in front here. Others here have settled a long way back in runs to date but in most cases they have drawn very wide. CENTIMENTAL led a Jan 23 trial so maybe she heads it?? The Maher/Eustace girl has the score on the board though and is not hard to fancy.

Race 2:
Look for 3 to cross and lead from 2. Cleverly named newcomer GORSHIN (one decent trial recently and a decent colt in the making) might follow the frontrunner. GLOBAL QUEST has two trials under his belt in preparation for this return and he might be able to wind up and get past them. He did well to win on debut after being buffeted between runners only a furlong from home. PRAGUE will sport similar colours and made a solid debut himself on rain-affected ground a fortnight ago. NITROUS was honest in QLD after a less-than-ideal run. RETURN WITH HONOUR gets off the Heavy, clearly a positive. And GRAVINA was great late in his trial. May be the value??

Race 7:
3 and 4 are ‘next door neighbours’ drawn low and they could be our leaders. 7 and 10 offer pace from further out. STANDOUT takes a big leap into this sort of race but his initial race campaign was very positive and he has trialled so well leading back into this that I think he can measure right up. When ALIZEE won this race last year she already had a run (and a subsequent trial) under her belt. Harsh critics will say she has won just the once from her last seven appearances but that win was in the spring equivalent to this and she has won her latest four fresh runs. I could certainly own a place ticket with IRITHEA’s name on it.
