Race 7:
SECRET BLAZE (7) chimed in late but couldn’t reel in today’s rival Inverloch in the Mornington Cup Prelude over this course and distance last start. That was his second run back from a two-month break so should be spot-on now. STAR MISSILE (13) appreciated the step up to 2000m when 3rd to Salsamor over this course and distance last Saturday, making a stack of late ground against the bias. Needs a 10/10 ride from Williams out of the wide gate but is a winning chance. SALSAMOR (9) raced handy and was too strong late in a Bm90 over this course and distance seven days ago. Has built a nice picket fence next to his name and it would be brave to rule him out in this tougher race. SO SI BON (3) found the line well in the Golden Mile at Bendigo recently. Classy customer who will be hard to hold out, although the wins are few and far between.
Race 8:
WILD PLANET (5) stalked the leaders then ground out a tidy win over this distance in the Listed March Stakes at Flemington five weeks ago. Distance specialist who again enjoys the run of the race from a good gate. Very hard to hold out. BAM’S ON FIRE (12) has been beaten a length or less in three consecutive Group races for mares, most recently leading only to be gunned down late in the G2 Sunline at Moonee Valley. Loves Caulfield so from a good gate can match it with the boys. SPANISH WHISPER (6) battled on fairly in bog conditions to finish a respectable 6th in the G1 Coolmore over 1500m at Rosehill four weeks ago. Three-time G2 winner who can give this a mighty shake. HAUNTED (4) made up many lengths to be beaten just a length in the 1200m Hareeba at Mornington recently. Big chance stepping up in distance.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 7:
SPEED: 1,8 lead 9. SECRET BLAZE was terrific fresh off wide run beating all-bar Aust Cup winner Fifty Stars then chased in-form INVERLOCH here. Inverloch has since run well twice at 2400m. SALSAMOR is flying. STAR MISSILE ran him to 1.5L last week on very tough day for run-on horses I note. SCARLET DREAM’s return was excellent, she should have won and fancy it’s advantage her again over HELLOVA STREET at 2000m. SAVACOOL had track bias against latest, yes 2000m. SKELM is flying and formlines tie in. 3yo VEGAS KNIGHT a hope to 2000m. SO SI BON is a 2000m query?
Selections 10. Scarlet Dream (top tip), 7. Secret Blaze, 8. Inverloch, 13. Star Missile
Race 8:
SPEED: 7 may lead 5,9. 6,12,16 handy. SEABROOK was back and wide fresh in Hareeba Stks yet charged home, her last 2nd-up run was a second to Verry Elleegant. HAUNTED was behind her in that Hareeba, came wider, and also hit the line hard, they both ran super! RUNSON gave a great sight there and has won at 1400m. WILD PLANET looked a good thing Flemington latest and won well in good time. Maps nicely again here. SPANISH WHISPER is better suited here. VIOLATE can fly fresh! BAM’S ON FIRE is going great guns. HANGER and MANOLO BLAHNIQ chances at odds.

Race 3:
ASHARANI (10) couldn’t have been more impressive at Newcastle last start when storming home from last to win easily. Continues to race well and while likely to get back from the awkward draw, she should prove hard to hold out late. Stablemate ANIMATE (4) simply brained them at Newcastle last start when taking a good step forward. On an upward spiral and looms as a major threat. ELECTRIC GIRL (12) chases her fourth straight win and is another on an upward spiral. Should press forward and be in this for a long way. THROUGH THE CRACKS (2) closed off very well last start and appears the next in line.
Race 4:
AWAY GAME (2) has been the pick of the fillies all the way through, she won the Magic Millions, was very game in the Blue Diamond before finishing second in the Golden Slipper. Just has to hold her form and she should prove very hard to beat. DAME GISELLE (1) was a touch disappointing in the Slipper last start, but is better than that and can bounce back here. SEE YOU SOON (3) falls into a similar boat, an improving track helps her. SWATS THAT (5) is the new horse on the scene and cannot be taken lightly.
Race 5:
COSMIC FORCE (1) never look comfortable in the Group 1 Galaxy last start when safely held as the well supported favourite ($3.50). Comes back a few pegs here and he has trialled very well since. James McDonald takes over and he is expected to bounce back in a big way. FLIT (9) went far too hard in the All Star Mile last start and remains under strong notice on the fresh side (28 days). The blinkers come off and she is more than capable. VILLAMI (11) had excuses last start and obviously rates well on her first up win, while CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL (12) also holds claims off a last start win.
Race 6:
PROBABEEL (1) only went down narrowly in the Vinery and is clearly the class filly of the field. A question mark at 2400m, but she is still very hard to knock and improving track helps her. Wide draw leaves Bosson with options and her class should carry her a long way. SHOUT THE BAR (2) took a big step forward last start when winning the Vinery and only looks to have to repeat that level of performance to be right in the finish again. COLETTE (4) beat the ‘B’ graders with ease last weekend and do like the set up on the quick back up. Has to take another step, but she is hard to knock. NUDGE (3) closed off well in the Vinery and appears the next in line.
Race 7:
YOUNG RASCAL (2) did too well in his Australian debut when taking out the N.E. Manion Cup. This has always been the Grand Final and he is proven to handle all conditions. Has a touch of class on his side and with Marquand sticking aboard (2/2), he should prove very hard to beat. RAHEEN HOUSE (4) won well last weekend and certainly appears back on track. Appears well placed at the weights and looms as a major threat. MUSTAJEER (1) gives weight away to all of his rivals, but is racing in career best form and shouldn’t be far away. GALLIC CHIEFTAIN (5) closed off well enough last weekend and appears the next in line.
Race 8:
ADDEYBB (2) proved too strong late for Verry Elleegant in his Australian debut and suspect he can only improve further off the back of that effort. The wetter the better with him and from the inside draw Marquand could put him where ever he wants. Rates well and should prove hard to beat. On exposed form DANON PREMIUM (1) is the best horse in this race, however he has to be a question mark on wet ground. If he handles the track, they will certainly know he is there. TE AKAU SHARK (4) gets the synthetic hoof filler for the first time, which is a big query, but the step up in trip is a big tick and he remains under strong notice, while VERRY ELLEEGANT (12) is simply airborne and has to be respected.
Race 9:
On face value FUNSTAR (17) was disappointing last start in the Vinery Stud Stakes when finishing fourth. Effort prior was very good and she sets up well dropping back to the mile. Alizee followed the exact same path last year and Funstar is arguably better performed at the same point. Has gate speed to overcome the wide draw and should prove hard to beat with McDonald sticking aboard. NETTOYER (2) did an amazing job in the Doncaster last weekend and only looks to have to repeat that level of performance to be right in the finish again. She is flying. POSITIVE PEACE (9) is another mare who is simply airborne and is very hard to knock, while MISS SISKA (4) can also front up dropping back in trip.
Race 10:
SAVATIANO (3) wasn’t beaten far in the Galaxy last start after racing on-speed. Much better suited back up to 1200m and rates very well off her first up win. Some query over whether she can maintain that form deeper into her campaigns, but is worth sticking with. JMac back aboard another push. FASIKA (7) got caught on the wrong part of the track last start when closing off well late in the Galaxy. Much better placed here and looms as a major threat. I AM EXCITED (1) is weighted up to her best now, but is clearly flying, while MANICURE (9) also holds solid claims second up.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 3:
Not overloaded with speedsters this one. 12 might end up leading. Kris Lees with a third of the field and I think he may let a couple of his slide up. Some expectation that 9 and 4 will be handy. I admit I haven’t had a great ‘feel’ for this race right throughout the series and can look at ten or a dozen of them and think ‘some hope, won’t shock’. In the end I’m happy to go with OAKFIELD MISSILE, a mare that didn’t seem to come up at all during the spring but returned with an impressive qualifying win. She ran a ripper 4th in this last year when $81 and she has some options to settle near midfield from this draw.
Selections: 13. Oakfield Missile (top tip), 12. Electric Girl, 4. Animate, 2. Through The Cracks
Race 4:
9 to lead 14 (and 10?) crossing over. 1 and 2 track up handy. The Slipper form obviously held up really well for the Sires’ last week and I expect it to here as well. AWAY GAME has had some kind of first prep. Debuted on Sandown Classic day and has since been to QLD/Sydney/Melbourne and back to Sydney. Not one poor run among them and while she is entitled to call for a spell after pulling in $2.3M I will trust her for one more effort in what has been a challenging first campaign. Should see gun run. DAME GISELLE and SEE YOU SOON are back to Randwick where they were close together in the Reisling.
Selections: 2. Away Game (best of the day), 1. Dame Giselle, 3. See You Soon, 7. Philizzy
Race 5:
Speed solid from 3 and 11, with 12 and 6 also handy. I’m a fan of DAWN PASSAGE but I feel you’d have to be to tip him here as he will give a big start from his draw. The return run was really encouraging but he’ll have to be as dynamic as we’ve ever seen him because I think he’ll be last or very near it. That provides a chance of being held up of course, which was the case first-up. I’m prepared to hope for that luck to come today. CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL puts herself in a good position here so again she won’t be easy to get past. COSMIC FORCE was below par in the Galaxy but I could forgive. FLIT is back to 1200m, a distance at which she has always run well.
Selections: 4. Dawn Passage (top tip), 12. California Zimbol, 9. Flit, 1. Cosmic Force
Race 6:
The Waterhouse/Bott pair make the play. Many of them have no speed at all and PROBABEEL might have the chance to slot in for a nice trail somewhere in the front half. Arguably you could say others are looking for the 2400m more than she is but that was said also about last week’s Derby winner. SHOUT THE BAR was stoic in holding her off in the Vinery and there’s no reason to expect she won’t just keep rolling along here as well. COLETTE was tremendously dynamic in winning last start and is ‘in blossom’ right now. Six of today’s rivals here were behind her in the Adrian Knox and they are very unlikely to turn tables.
Selections: 1. Probabeel (top tip), 2. Shout The Bar, 4. Colette, 3. Nudge
Race 7:
3 and 9 to lead from 12 and 10. YOUNG RASCAL is a 5YO having first attempt at the two mile distance but on the strength of how he went to the line winning the Manion Cup I doubt it’s going to be an issue. He hauled 59 kilos there and held at bay two up-and-coming stayers in determined fashion. Very likeable here. MUSTAJEER was thrashed by Verry Elleegant a fortnight ago but there shouldn’t be any knock on that quality of form. Did beat Carif home prior which RAHEEN HOUSE did in winning the Chairmans last week. Quite like what GALLIC CHIEFTAIN did there as well and fancy he could figure in top three at his second Sydney Cup attempt.
Selections: 2. Young Rascal (top tip), 1. Mustajeer, 5. Gallic Chieftain, 4. Raheen House
Race 8:
Awesome lineup! Expect ADDEYBB to repeat the tactics in the Ranvet and lead up. 7 can press as well potentially. DANON PREMIUM likes to set up handy and connections declare that Soft conditions are unlikely to faze. His latest 2000m runs have seen him run 2nd to Almond Eye in the October Tenno Sho and defeat Lys Gracieux last March. It’s premium form, just right for a premium race like this. VERRY ELLEEGANT has arguably never gone better. She will barrack for as much rainfall as she can get leading up to the weekend. There are so many other interesting horses in the race. TE AKAU SHARK was Cox Plate placed his only other go at 2000m. VOW AND DECLARE was rock-solid first-up. MASTER OF WINE, does he have the class??
Selections: 1. Danon Premium (top tip), 12. Verry Elleegant, 2. Addeybb, 4. Te Akau Shark
Race 9:
Another ripper clash. FUNSTAR the filly vs 16 mares. 5 should boot up and hold out 9 which crosses from way out wide. 3 and 4 not far away. Pace should be fairly genuine. NETTOYER was massive odds last week and proved beyond any doubt that the Randwick mile is her happy place. No doubt she has filled up with pizza and beer during the week and is ready to go again. She has already matched up and beaten the likes of NOIRE and AMANGIRI over this course, and that was on dry. Totally flying and if you missed her last week (and most of us did) latch on today. FUNSTAR back from the 2000m of the Vinery where she was hardly disgraced. Hard to leave out.
Selections: 2. Nettoyer (top tip), 17. Funstar, 8. Noire, 13. Amangiri
Race 10:
3 and 7 to lead from 9 and. WINTER BRIDE has trialled well and is generally a great mare when fresh. Handles all conditions and just needs a few things to pan out her way to be featuring strongly in the finish. BANGKOK bound to be some odds as well but she is up to winning something like this at some stage and I love the run she could potentially see. MANICURE doesn’t often run poorly. Placed all four here without winning. Secures a cute little trail in the run? It’s a very different draw for I AM EXCITED and she is way up in weight of course now being a G1 winner. Could still be running on hard pending the pattern.
