Race 5:
PERFECT JEWEL (7) Chimed in with a win last time at this venue and displays very good finishing speed. Very tidy this campaign winning 2 from 3 starts. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. MISSISSIPPI DELTA (8) Got the prize when winning three runs back at Ascot and possesses good closing speed. Go well. THE VELVET KING (4) Charged home into 2nd last start at the track. Shows good early pace. Won’t be far away. GATTING (2) Was just over 9l from the winner at this course last run on a soft track. Should bounce back. Finishes off strongly. Won’t be far away.

Race 5:
No reason PERFECT JEWEL can’t win again. You know what they say about mares in form? Well few are racing better than this 5YO, coming off brilliant Belmont Sprint and Hyperion Stakes wins. Clearly loves Belmont and the sting out of the track, and has a G2 2100m WFA placing to her name, so the trip won’t be an issue. Locking in a cerise-and-white quinella with Perth Cup-winning mare MISSISSIPPI DELTA ready to peak third up over the 2000m. It’s up to Impressive Racing duo THE VELVET KING and GATTING to take it up to Team Peters at what may be their last WA runs before a transfer to Victoria.

Race 5:
LE JUGE (2) Did a good job when winning two runs back at this course. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. Deserves consideration. ANOTHER DOLLAR (1) Really dug deep when winning three runs back at Randwick but goes up in weight. Drawn to sit just in behind the speed. Can go on with it. LAPULGA (9) Game effort to win two runs back at this venue and very competitive this campaign. Always seems to find the line well. Likely threat. ALWARD (3) Bold effort when 4th last start around here. Ticks plenty of boxes and looks like value.
Race 7:
THY KINGDOM COME (9) Game effort to win last time at Eagle Farm and will appreciate the drop in weight. Should just about get the run of the race. Been in the money 4 from 5 attempts this preparation. Expect to go close. SCALLOPINI (1) Got the upper hand late when winning two runs back around here and finishes off strongly. Right in the thick of it and is a major player. SOXAGON (6) Fought on well to win last time at Gold Coast and freshened up. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Looks very sharp this campaign with 2 wins from 2 starts. Definite winning chance. INQUIRY (7) Showed promise when winning two runs back at Gold Coast and carrying less weight this time. Shows good early pace. Suited.
Race 8:
BACCARAT BABY (2) Kept coming when 3rd two runs back at Sunshine Coast. Been in the money 3 from 4 attempts this campaign. Warrants a bet. KRONE (6) Put in a competitive run when placing 2nd two runs back at this track. Will be trying to topple them late. Must respect in this event. TRICKY GAL (9) Dashed home into 2nd last start at Rosehill and shows good finishing speed. Has run into the money 3 from 4 attempts this preparation. Worth a ticket. SURE KNEE (5) Although moving back still finished 2nd two runs back at Rosehill. Displays very good closing speed. One of the chances.
Race 5: Juge
Race 7: Scallopini
Race 8: Krone
Race 5:
Not surprising that Waller has 5 of the 10 runners in a Qld staying race. Expecting ALWARD to improve sharply here. He has raced well in Qld before and he has now had the three runs back this prep. Fitter for the 2000m run last start. They should be positive and try to land one out and one back. Stable mates LE JUGE and ANOTHER DOLLAR have both been good this prep and both have won races recently. SWEET THOMAS was well supported in a Listed race in Syd last start, went terrible there but where there is smoke there is fire? PICKA PLUM will roll along up front and give a kick. This is a step up in grade for her though. LA PULGA is a very consistent type still on the improve.
Selections: 3. Alward, 1. Another Dollar, 2. Le Juge, 9. La Pulga
Race 7:
Boris Thornton might decide this race early. There is nogreat speed with INQUIRY leading and TWITCHY FRANKlikely to box seat. Thornton on SCALLOPINI has to landin front of 3-4 runners here. If he gets back to last he hasa big task. He’s a very good horse and even with the bigweight he’s hard to beat. TWITCHY FRANK joins theGollan camp and did what you’d want to see midweek ina quiet trial. Box seats here and looks very well placed.CHAPTER AND VERSE is a handy horse who always trieshard. He’s found his level know so just needs things tofall his way.
Selections: 4. Twitchy Frank, 1. Scallopini, 2. Chapter And Verse
Race 8:
The Gollan camp is flying at present and he has KRONE humming. She has only won 2 of 18 starts but she is every chance of landing in the box seat and out to the mile looks perfect for her now she is rock hard fit. She savaged the line last start and is the one they have to beat. BACCARAT BABY is likely to push forward and may land outside leader. She is another who is now rock hard fit and will give a kick off what should be a moderate tempo. SHUHOOD will lead back to the mile and should get some favours. TRICKY GAL has won or placed in 9 of 10, she has a heap of upside and this is her preferred trip. SURE KNEE has good ability and just needs a good steer from gate 10 to be in the finish.
Selections: 6. Krone, 9. Tricky Gal, 2. Baccarat Baby, 5. Sure Knee

Race 5:
Premiers Cup this year has 10 acceptors with Chris Waller supplying exactly half & as I type there are no jockeys for any of them! Temp wise Sunshine Coaster Picka Plum maps to lead all on her own & around Doomben if that’s the case will take some running down. Thought LA PULGA was good in Listed company last start, missed the kick before running on well, no weight & should run the trip. ALWARD probably won’t be in the first couple of the fancied Waller runners drawn wide however I thought his run at Doomben behind Le Juge was very good racing wide all the way yet sticking on very well.
Selections: 9. La Pulga (top tip), 3. Alward, 2. Le Juge, 10. Picka Plum
Race 7:
Interestingly nos.5, 6, 7 & 9 all dual engaged today, who knows in which races they will run, we will treat as all running here at this early stage. 4 & 7 look the tempo, hoping it’s a little more busy than that as I’m sticking with the class runner in the race SCALLOPINI. The big plus for him here is the step up in distance to 1350m, he’s rattled home both runs this prep 1110 & 1200m. SOXAGON & THY KINGDOM COME both can run quick times & should roll forward to take up a prominent enough spot. INQUIRY not the roughest, likely leads & around here may give them something to run down.
Selections: 1. Scallopini, 5. Right Or Wrong
Race 8:
Group 3 for the fillies & mares, the only filly in the race Shuhood should control the tempo without any worries whatsoever, Baccarat Baby just may be the one to tag along in 2nd spot, should the map be right the backmarkers might have their work cut out. Missing a run in the Stradbroke BACCARAT BABY was 4 weeks between runs when beaten less than 2L in the Dane Ripper after racing wide throughout, she can make amends. Been impressed by KRONE’s last couple, better gate should see her closer in the run, definite winning chance with a fair tempo. SHUHOOD back to the mile goes in.
Selections: 2. Baccarat Baby (best of the day), 6. Krone, 12. Shuhood, 10. Mewstone Rock
Race 5:
LE JUGE (2) has been a model of consistency and didn’t have a lot of luck when held up last time before finishing a 2.5L fourth. Strong to the line when landing the Chairman’s two back, his fifth win from nine visits to Doomben. Goes on top. ANOTHER DOLLAR (1) wasn’t suited by a slow tempo last start but still worked home okay. Third to Le Juge in the Chairman’s two back following a Listed win in Sydney. Big threat. ALWARD (3) was only 1.5L away from Le Juge when fourth in the Chairman’s. That run should have brought him to his peak. LA PULGA (9) was an eye-catcher when running on in the Eagle Farm Mile. Her previous form was good and won her only try at this longer trip. If PICKA PLUM (10) is left alone in front she could take catching.

Alward (4 stars)
Race 7:
Thy Kingdom Come (4 stars)
Scallopini (5 stars)
Soxagon (3 stars)
Race 8:
KRONE (6) was a real eye catcher in the Group 2 Dane Ripper last start when she settled last and was held up but rattled home to get within 1.3L of the winner. Went close in the Coughlan two back and might be looking for the mile fourth up. BACCARAT BABY (2) was just behind Krone in the Dane Ripper after being forced to race wide without cover. Had placed at her other three starts this campaign and has a good record at the course and the distance. Threat. SHUHOOD (12) wasn’t far off the placings against the good fillies at stakes level at her past couple. Goes forward and could take catching. SURE KNEE (5) ran on well in Sydney last start and should be peaking for the step up to the mile. TRICKY GAL (9) hasn’t missed a place at this trip. Respect.

Race 6:
ATTENTION RUN (12) Good win last run at this course and second up from a spell. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Suitably placed in this race. CARZOFF (4) Rattled home nicely into 2nd last start at the track. Shows good closing speed. Expected to fight out the finish. WU GOK (1) Was fighting out the finish when winning last run at the track and won’t be far away during the run. Unbeaten this preparation with 2 wins from 2 starts. Suitably placed in this race. SULLY (7) Well beaten when 6th at Swan Hill. Looks well placed against these and third up from a break. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Open to improvement and is a strong chance again.
Race 7:
HOME OF THE BRAVE (1) Finished strongly when 3rd last time at Flemington. Should muster plenty of early toe. Go close. TRUMBULL (8) Kept finding the line when 2nd last start around here but up in grade. Finishes off strongly. Wouldn’t leave out of multiples. OUTRAGEOUS (11) Placed 2nd two runs back at Randwick and expecting to settle positively. Been in the money 3 from 4 attempts this preparation. Place chance. CRACK ME UP (2) Having third run back from a spell. Didn’t find the line when 17th last time at Eagle Farm and carrying more weight than last time. Each way hope.

Race 7: Sambro

Race 6:
Waller with 6, Lees with 5, and three other stables trying to cause an upset. SULLY is a curious entrant to say the least. Last seen in the Swan Hill Cup, he got back and worked home OK without threat. Now 3rd-up to 2000m is a big positive; he always runs well when rising to 2000 in his prep. Has two runs on Soft 6 for a Maiden win and a debut 2nd (to Levendi) but hasn’t seen worse. And he has raced on only Good rated tracks for the best part of the last three years. I care not. I’m intrigued and will get involved in him for the win and place. The market risked WU GOK last start but he just went about his work on Heavy and is the standout mudlover here today. Could lead and control so hard to risk.
Selections: 7. Sully (value bet), 2. Sixties Groove, 1. Wu Gok, 12. Attention Run
Race 7:
7, 10 and 11 the dual acceptors in this one. Not a bad little feature race either, whether that trio is present or not. 6 and 9 to lead out. Some will denounce HOME OF THE BRAVE for not winning enough since coming to our shores and, yes, there is a record of one victory from 14 starts out here, that is true. But be careful, if you’re slating him with that criticism keep in mind this is a race in which he’s up against a variety of troubled causes as well. SAMBRO and CRACK ME UP haven’t won for two years plus, TRUMBULL does himself no favours in missing the kick, OUTRAGEOUS can’t win for us this prep. Etc etc…. BRAVE’s two runs at Rosehill have seen a 1.7L defeat behind Pierata and Trekking, and a stakes win on Heavy over Trapeze Artist.
