Race 4:
ALFA ORO (7) Left nothing to chance when winning last time at this venue and expecting to settle positively. Looks a strong bet for punters. BROOKLYN HUSTLE (6) Third up from a spell. Dominant winner two runs back at Moonee Valley and goes down in grade. Could pose a threat and expected to go very close. ORDER OF COMMAND (1) Races well fresh winning 3 from 6 runs. Really dug deep when winning three runs back at Warrnambool and strong form at this distance. Deserves consideration. RUNSON (3) Claimed late when 3rd last run at this venue and should jump out and bowl along. Has claims.
Race 6:
FLYING AWARD (4) Having second run back from a spell. Brave effort to win two runs back at Flemington but rising in class. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Big danger. CAMBOURNE (10) Got the prize when winning last run at Bendigo but facing a stronger grade. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. Looks very sharp this campaign with 2 wins from as many starts. Open to improvement and has a show in this field. PRAGUE (1) Having second run back from a break. Finished 2nd two runs back at Randwick. Deserves consideration. AYSAR (8) Second up from a spell. Fought on gamely when winning last start at Sandown and suited by the weight drop. Can be competitive.
Race 7:
INSTANT CELEBRITY (4) Really dug deep when winning last time at Morphettville and always seems to find the line well. Flawless this campaign with 3 wins from 3 starts. Serious contender. NIGHT RAID (5) Got the upper hand late when winning last run at Moonee Valley and likely to be well placed early. Strong form this campaign winning 2 from as many attempts. Could pose a threat and expected to go very close. MOZZIE MONSTER (8) Backs up quickly today. Comprehensive victory when winning two runs back at Bendigo and can find a nice position from the draw. Include in chances. PERSONAL (6) Flashed home late into 3rd three runs back at the track and will be motoring home late. Not the worst in this field.
Race 8:
RUSSIAN CAMELOT (10) Having second run back from a break. Chimed in with a win two runs back at Morphettville. Expecting to settle just off the pace. This race looks ideal. ARCADIA QUEEN (9) Third up today. Good run when placing 2nd last start at Flemington and has a nice advantage with a good alley. Ticks plenty of boxes and looks like value. MR QUICKIE (6) Came on strongly when 2nd last start here and always seems to find the line well. Among the major players. THE CHOSEN ONE (7) Second up. Was first to greet the judge when winning last time at Flemington and will try to take advantage of the alley. Each way prospects.

Race 4:
Field of eight but BROOKLYN HUSTLE and ALFA ORO are also entered for MV Friday night so …? ORDER OF COMMAND carries weight and won very well here fresh last prep with 60kg. His wet-track form is excellent too. BRAVE SONG is well up to winning this fresh but all wins have been on dry. RUNSON went super fresh-up but for mine he too is better on drier. CORUSCATE is up to these also. He trialled well in Sydney. STREET ICON is going better than his form says.
Selections: 8. Street Icon (top tip), 1. Order Of Command, 4. Coruscate, 3. Runson
Race 6:
SPEED: 6, 3 may lead again with any of 1, 8, 10, 13 handy. Problem: CHERRY TORTONI, FLYING AWARD and ALCYONE are all down for the 1600m Stutt Stakes Friday night. AMISH BOY ($19 early odds) was terrific fresh in the Danehill Stakes, going underneath them all and beating home Ranting (who was every bit as good as CROSSHAVEN and FLYING AWARD in the McNeil) and PRAGUE (doubt he relished the straight and he ran well but he draws wide so ??). Crosshaven’s win over BARTLEY rated highly. Cherry Tortoni was the clear best closer there. AYSAR is smart. CAMBOURNE ditto.
Selections: 5. Amish Boy (value bet), 1. Prague, 4. Flying Award, 3. Crosshaven
Race 7:
SPEED: 1, 3 may lead but plenty others capable of being handy at 1400m. INSTANT CELEBRITY is smart. She ran home 33.6 (+9L versus average, day’s fastest) last 600m fresh and then 11.26 (fastest all day by some 2L) last 200m. Happy to stick! NIGHT RAID beat Aidensfield last time. That filly was good last week beating home MOZZIE MONSTER. PERSONAL gets to 1400m and back to her own sex. ANNAVISTO was 2L off her in the Danehill but she looked all at sea up the straight. Back around a bend here at 1400m she can improve lengths at odds. LETZBEGLAM and JENNI’S RAINBOW are hopes!
Selections: 4. Instant Celebrity (best of the day), 11. Annavisto, 6. Personal, 1. Letzbeglam
Race 8:
SPEED: 1, 3 can lead 4 with 9 taking a trail. RUSSIAN CAMELOT was never on the track in the Makybe Diva fresh and ran enormous. SO SI BON didn’t have a ton of luck behind him but safe to say ‘Russian’ was the better run and 1800m suits. He is proven to soft 6 ground. ARCADIA QUEEN settled much better last time and charged late after Pretty Brazen (since G1 placed). She looked in need of more ground there and gets to 1800m which is the distance of her best career win. She is unproven on wet. MR QUICKIE was terrific fresh. HARBOUR VIEWS was in worst ground in Feehan when nailed by HUMIDOR.
Selections: 9. Arcadia Queen (top tip), 10. Russian Camelot, 6. Mr Quickie, 8. Harbour Views
Rosehill
Race 7: 1 – Rothfire (1.95), 2 – North Pacific (5.50), 3 – King’s Legacy (16.00)
Race 8: Seasons (9.00, 2.80) (each way)
Race 2:
EXEMPLAR (6) Solid effort when winning three runs back at Flemington and suited by the weight drop. Should jump out and bowl along. Appears well in this. CARZOFF (2) Rattled home nicely into 2nd three runs back at Eagle Farm and racing again inside a week. Will be looking to sit just behind the pace. Has struggled so far this preparation. Good enough for this and worth a bet. GREY LION (3) Showed a good turn of foot when 3rd two runs back at Randwick. Can go through the gears. Open to improvement and has a show in this field. RAHEEN HOUSE (1) Came on strongly to finish 3rd three runs back at Randwick and having third run back from a spell. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Well placed and has solid claims.
Race 4:
LOVE TAP (3) Ran away with a win last time at Goulburn and can save some energy from the barrier. Unbeaten this preparation with 3 wins from as many starts. Worth an investment. ACHIEVER (1) Gave them a lesson when winning three runs back at Randwick and third up today. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. Major player. CADENABBIA (5) Got the upper hand late when winning last time at Canterbury but racing in stronger company today. Warrants a bet. LION’S ROAR (6) Showed promise when winning last run at Kembla Grange and won’t be far away during the run. Could run a race.
Race 5:
FORBIDDEN LOVE (10) Left nothing to chance when winning two runs back at Canterbury and should come to hand quickly. Top prospects against this opposition. DESTINATION (2) Chimed in with a win three runs back at Kembla Grange but rises in weight today. Include in all exotics. WILD RULER (1) First up after a break. Improved result placing 3rd two runs back at Eagle Farm and looks well placed in this grade. Deserves consideration. MARBOOSHA (12) Had a break from racing and returns to competition. Solid effort when winning two runs back at Warwick Farm and carrying less weight this time. One in a race with many chances.
Race 6:
I AM SUPERMAN (5) Second up from a break. Left nothing to chance when winning last run at Caulfield. Looks well suited in this race. JUST THINKIN’ (13) Brave effort to win two runs back at Randwick and displays good tactical speed. Should take beating. SUBPOENAED (11) Snuck in a place when 3rd three runs back at Doomben and possesses good closing speed. Good prospect for the exotics at least. RIODINI (9) Second up from a break. Did its best work late when 3rd two runs back at Trentham and can save some energy from the gate. Quite a few boxes are ticked and looks value at generous odds.
Race 7:
ROTHFIRE (1) Proven record when second up with 3 wins from 3 runs. Left nothing to chance when winning last start at this track but facing a stronger class today. Should muster plenty of early speed. Deserves respect. NORTH PACIFIC (5) Shot away to win two runs back at Randwick but rising in grade. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Expect to go close. PELTZER (7) Won easily three runs back at Randwick and won’t be far away during the run. Appears well in this. OLE KIRK (4) Third up. Ran on strongly when 2nd last time around here but up against stronger competition. Minor prospects.
Race 8:
HAUT BRION HER (2) Having second run back from a spell. Scored a victory last time at this course and should be going forward early. Looks promising. SWEET DEAL (4) Third up from a break. Won narrowly two runs back at Randwick. Trifectas chance. SEASONS (8) Finished strongly when 3rd last run at this track and likely to race off the speed. Worth entertaining from a place and exotics perspective. SUBPOENAED (10) Dashed home into 3rd three runs back at Doomben and expected to be flashing home. Worth a ticket.

Race 2:
Gosh, what do we do with this. GREY LION has won a 1200m trial since his latest run. More white than grey these days but he can do something here. EXEMPLAR has been tried as a hurdler but is in solid form and gets the front. RAHEEN HOUSE was as plain as porridge at Wyong; he really never gave a squeak. He remains the high rater here though (weighted as such) and we did see him improve to win 3rd-up last prep. Added fitness and distance help. CARZOFF has placed 7 of 15 since his latest win. Stablemate DJUKON hasn’t really done enough out here just yet but battled OK last time, now is 3rd-up on a quick turnaround and clearly lightest raced. First time to 2400m in Australia.
Selections: 3. Grey Lion (top tip), 6. Exemplar, 1. Raheen House, 7. Djukon
Race 4:
This lead is up for grabs a bit. 6 and 2 have some natural speed about them but 4 and 3 have the low draws to work from and won’t be far away. EASY CAMPESE is by far the deepest into his preparation but I sense they might still be learning about him all the time, hence he is challenged here by a rise to 1800m. Comes through the right race though surely. The winner is Caulfield Guineas fave while 2nd and 5th go to the Golden Rose later. I dare say regular rider Jeff Penza hasn’t ridden a heap of Group winners but he looks for another one here. LOVE TAP unbeaten and has been dominating lesser races. Good enough to tempt Rawiller down to Goulburn.
Selections: 2. Easy Campese (top tip), 3. Love Tap, 1. Achiever, 6. Lion’s Roar
Race 5:
Interested to see what 3 and 5 do with their wide draws but 10, 12, 2 and 1 have some speed from the inside half. It’s a bit of a fascinating race overall. FORBIDDEN LOVE comes through the Furious and was worthy opposition for Dame Giselle/Hungry Heart. Hard to knock that form, especially for a filly that boasts natural speed. She went 1200m back to 1100 in her first prep and went quite well. 2 from 2 for Berry as well. WILD RULER has been trialing really well and this looks a winnable kickoff for him. Tie in the Rothfire form and he’s bound to have plenty of fans. Consider him and I think stablemate MARBOOSHA should be in the conversation too.
Selections: 10. Forbidden Love (top tip), 1. Wild Ruler, 12. Marboosha, 2. Destination
Race 6:
11 and 14 in R8 as well. Speed supplied by 9, 3 and 13 with 4 and 5 handy. JUST THINKIN’ was no match for a barnstorming Rock at Newcastle but clearly he has come back well and blinkers are reapplied for this. LOOKS LIKE ELVIS was obviously a total forgive 1st-up and then not beaten too far in the Tramway after a less-than-cushy run. That’s the Kolding form of course. SUBPOENAED draws low so will need luck but she can dash if she sees clear at the right time. I AM SUPERMAN switches back to Sydney and draws to see his chance. There was pretty strong market support for RIODINI in the Theo Marks. Potentially he could ‘bounce’.
Selections: 13. Just Thinkin’ (top tip), 6. Looks Like Elvis, 5. I Am Superman
Race 7:
And now to our highlight. Presuming YARDSTICK will be crossing up, does PELTZER want to push up from the low draw in an attempt to keep ROTHFIRE wide, or even lead himself? It’s certainly one of the scenarios but I am unfazed by the QLDer drawing wide in this race, in fact quite the opposite. He jumps out so professionally that Byrne will have a few moments to take stock of what’s happening underneath and advance his approach from there. Most of those that finished behind ROTHFIRE a fortnight ago had race fitness over him so if he improves on what he offered in the Run to the Rose then look out. He’s the rightful favourite for mine. OLE KIRK draws to be a bit closer but he does tend to be a little slow to go.
Selections: 1. Rothfire (top tip), 4. Ole Kirk, 5. North Pacific, 2. King’s Legacy
Race 8:
ROCHA CLOCK scratched immediately leaving 10 of the 14 coming through the Sheraco. Look for 9 to lead 2, 3, 4, 1. Clearly HAUT BRION HER created all the headlines out of the race a fortnight ago now she has to back it up at second run in after a lengthy layoff. And she is handed that same wide draw. Essentially meets them the same at the weights here though and there is simply no reason to expect she won’t run really well again. The horses that placed to her could again be the dangers. JEN RULES was silly odds fresh and she might be able to put her hand up at this level this prep. SEASONS is flying. 10 and 11 were in R6 as well. Which way will they choose?
Selections: 2. Haut Brion Her (best of the day), 8. Seasons, 7. Jen Rules, 10. Subpoenaed
Race 2: Exemplar
Race 4: Lion’s Roar each-way
Race 5: Wild Ruler
Race 6: Just Thinkin’
Race 7: Rothfire
Race 8: Haut Brion Her
Race 2: Exemplar
Race 5: Encountabull
Race 7: Ole Kirk
