Race 1:
SOMERSET MAUGHAM (4) Won by a big margin last run at Morphettville and should be going forward early. Racing consistently this campaign. Include in chances. VEGAS KNIGHT (5) Found another gear when winning last start at Caulfield and displays good tactical speed. Been in the money 4 from 5 attempts this preparation. Big danger. KISSINGER (10) Dominant winner last run at Warrnambool and gets some weight taken off today. Must be considered. ALMANIA (1) Came in 3rd three runs back at Ascot but first up from a spell. Likely to get a nice run behind the speed. Winning hope.
Race 2:
TOMMY GOLD (4) Finished on top two runs back at Randwick and second up. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Will take beating today. DEEP SPEED (2) Handy enough when winning last run at Moonee Valley and backs up quickly today. Strong form this campaign winning 2 from as many attempts. No surprise to see a win. SHELBY COBRA (8) Had a comfortable win last time at Sale but racing in stronger company. Classy enough for this field and is one of the major players. PIONEER RIVER (1) Was first to greet the judge when winning last time at Cranbourne but up against stronger competition today. Likely to race off the speed. Worth keeping safe.
Race 3:
MORRISSY (4) Produced an eye catching run when 2nd last run at Caulfield and goes down in grade. Winning chance in this line up. SANSOM (7) Having second run back from a break. Solid win last time at Moonee Valley and likely to be well placed early. Will go well. HARLECH (3) Brave effort to win last run at Benalla and suited by the weight drop. Expect to go close. REYKJAVIK (1) Was 5.7l from the winner at Caulfield last run on a good track. Gets in nicely but rising in weight. Possesses very good closing speed. Use betting as best guide.
Race 4:
RIGHT YOU ARE (5) Game effort to win last run at the track but resuming from break. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Definite winning chance. WINNING PARTNER (2) Landed the spoils when winning last time at Murray Bridge and very competitive this campaign. Has a great burst of speed late. Must be considered. POWER SCHEME (7) Nice effort when winning last time at Caulfield and displays very good finishing speed. In the mix. AQUEDUCT (10) Scored a victory three runs back at Morphettville and racing consistently this campaign. Each way.
Race 5:
PONDUS (2) Having second run back from a spell. Rocketed home into 2nd last start at Bendigo. Serious contender. LE DON DE VIE (1) Did a good job when winning two runs back at Windsor. Good chance and wouldn’t be surprised to see it pick up a win. CHAPADA (4) Good win two runs back at Caulfield but goes up in weight. Shows very good finishing speed. Each way prospects. TRUE SELF (6) Folded up in the straight when 13th last run at Caulfield and up in weight today. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Quite a few boxes are ticked and looks value at generous odds.
Race 6:
BIVOUAC (3) Third up today. Stormed home when 2nd last start in the Everest. Very hard to beat. NATURE STRIP (2) Grabbed towards the finish when 2nd three runs back in the Concorde Stakes. Displays good tactical speed. Must be considered. LIBERTINI (9) Third up today. Solid effort when winning two runs back in the Premiere Stakes and proven performer at this trip. Place hope. SANTA ANA LANE (1) Was $20 and ended up 3.6l from the winner Classique Legend in the Everest last run on a good track but finishes off strongly. Has each way claims.
Race 7:
CHAILLOT (13) Brave effort to win three runs back at this track and shows very good closing speed. Should take beating. TOFFEE TONGUE (2) Put in a competitive run when placing 2nd two runs back at this venue but rises in weight. Possesses good closing speed. Worth a ticket. VANNA GIRL (3) Managed to run into 3rd two runs back at Randwick and finishes off strongly. Gets a chance to win. SHE’S IDEEL (10) Was fighting out the finish when winning three runs back at Randwick and displays good finishing speed. Maybe for the trifectas and a marginal hope.
Race 8:
ARCADIA QUEEN (9) Handy enough when winning two runs back in the Caulfield Stakes. Goes very close. MUGATOO (5) Left nothing to chance when winning three runs back in the Newcastle Gold Cup and tracking very well this campaign. Expected to be flashing home. Live winning chance. MELODY BELLE (8) Got the prize when winning last run in the Livamol Classic but facing a stronger class today. Very competitive this campaign. Will be in the finish. FIFTY STARS (2) Displayed good finishing speed when 3rd two runs back in the Moonga Stakes and will be motoring home late. Very strong each way claims.
Race 9:
METEORITE (11) Showed promise when winning last time at Sale and won’t be far away during the run. Flying this preparation with 2 wins from as many starts. Winning chance in what appears a suitable race. EXPRESS PASS (3) Displayed potential when winning two runs back at Caulfield and back from a let up. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. No shock to see a win. PLAQUETTE (15) Handy enough when winning two runs back at Randwick and always seems to find the line well. Could prove to be very difficult to beat. CAN’T BE DONE (5) First up today. Brave effort to win last time at Ballarat but carrying more weight than last time. Use betting as a guide.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
Good speed on paper. Tough start! BARADE was wide latest and comes back to 2000m. HUNBOSHI and SOMERSET MAUGHAM are off strong on-pace wins. VEGAS KNIGHT ran them ragged latest in what was a new tactic. ROYAL ORDER looks ready to win. Tthe horse that beat him at Geelong also beat KISSINGER and that horse then bolted in at Warrnambool. SCOTTISH DANCER has the same form and was lame last time when a beaten fave. GHODELEINE and TOLEMAC certainly have claims. Wary ALMANIA: betting?
Selections: 10. Kissinger (top tip), 6. Royal Order, 7. Scottish Dancer, 5. Vegas Knight
Race 2:
SPEED: 1, 2 from 5, 7, 8. TOMMY GOLD ran into a good one fresh in Sydney. He thrashed On The Lead into third and that horse had just split Wild Ruler and Doubtland, which became G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes form! DEEP SPEED has impressed in both wins to date and the form behind him is quite deep. SHELBY COBRA raced clear at Sale when well backed. Can make a case for PIONEER RIVER, TORBRECK and FAR ENOUGH too.
Selections: 4. Tommy Gold (Best of the Day), 2. Deep Speed, 8. Shelby Cobra, 7. Torbreck
Race 3:
SPEED: 8, 7 from 2, 6 with 3, 5 off those? MORVADA led with pressure last time yet still gave a kick, he was only collared 100m out and ran very well. He has 3.5kg on MORRISSY, who ran by him late there. They both beat Windstorm home, which is a good benchmark for this. REYKJAVIK ran very well in a Group 1 Toorak Handicap without luck but comes up in the weights now. SANSOM won well fresh. BOLD STAR is acting like he wants 1400m now. RIDDLE ME THAT found WFA/G2 a bit hot last time. Easier here! HARLECH has claims.
Selections: 8. Morvada (value bet), 6. Bold Star, 4. Morrissy, 7. Sansom
Race 4:
SPEED: 3, 11, 14 go forward. Not sure 10. Any of 1, 9, 12, 15 handy. RIGHT YOU ARE resumes and he won very well fresh last prep. In fact, his only defeat last prep was at the hands of Persan, who just ran fifth in a Melbourne Cup. He is jumping out nicely. WINNING PARTNER is flying, he covered ground yet beat AQUEDUCT clearly in Murray Bridge Cup last time. RAINBOW THIEF has had excuses of late, overs? SIKORSKY was wide/good second up last prep. Forgive that fresh miss. BEEHUNTER is another off a forgive run (heart irregularity). POWER SCHEME, MR MONEY BAGS plus 1, 4, 11, 12 chances.
Selections: 5. Right You Are (top tip), 2. Winning Partner, 13. Beehunter, 9. Sikorsky
Race 5:
SPEED: 1, 12 with 6, 8 taking trails? PONDUS drew the carpark in the Bendigo Cup and struck early trouble before sustaining a long run to just miss with his 59kg. He was heavily backed there. HAKY was sound. LE DON DE VIE was tough at Geelong and beat home Hotham winner Ashrun with CREEDENCE not far away. FUTURE SCORE ran well himself in that Hotham but seven-day back-up perhaps some query? SHARED AMBITION’s Persan form looks great now! ATTORNEY is better suited this weight scale and form ties in through Brimham Rocks. Can make a case for all of these to be honest.
Selections: 2. Pondus (top tip), 1. Le Don De Vie, 3. Shared Ambition, 10. Attorney
Race 6:
NATURE STRIP was a brilliant winner of this race last year and he’s had a few excuses this prep. BIVOUAC beat him home in The Everest and won the G1 Newmarket Handicap here effortlessly in March. SANTA ANA LANE was good very late in that same Everest. Both TOFANE and LIBERTINI had excuses. Go back to her first-up run and Libertini is beating the Everest winner in fast time. GRAFF was back to his best fresh, gate 1? STANDOUT should have won the Sydney Stakes latest. HEY DOC just beat Trekking, who was with Bivouac on the line in that Everest.
Runner
Selections: 3. Bivouac (top tip), 2. Nature Strip, 9. Libertini, 1. Santa Ana Lane
Race 7:
SPEED: 4 can lead 7 & 15 with 8, 6 handy. VANNA GIRL went back to 1600m in G1 Empire Rose and couldn’t quicken when the race went on but picked up very nicely late, In fact, her last 200m of 11.70 was race-fastest. CHAILLOT beat her home there and was terrific at just start five. Did she go through the line like a mare looking for 2000m? Not sure, this tells us. TOFFEE TONGUE was touched off by Verry Elleegant in a G1 Turnbull, which is obviously outstanding form for this. Gate hurts? IN GOOD HEALTH is underrated. PRINCESS JENNI a hope, back in trip? SHE’S IDEEL and AFFAIR TO REMEMBER head a stack of hopes.
Selections: 3. Vanna Girl (top tip), 2. Toffee Tongue, 7. In Good Health, 12. Affair To Remember
Race 8:
SPEED: 10, 1 can lead 7. MUGATOO and ARCADIA QUEEN crossed the line together in a Cox Plate. Mugatoo covered a stack of ground and ran super! Arcadia Queen nearly fell early then recovered and ran home nicely. MELODY BELLE was outstanding in this race last year and comes here off a brilliant win at home in NZ. SHOUT THE BAR was back to her gritty best last week winning a Group 1 against the girls. MR QUICKIE is mixing things up but a chance. DALASAN is very genuine.
Selections: 9. Arcadia Queen, 8. Melody Belle, 5. Mugatoo, 7. Dalasan
Race 9:
Good speed on paper. PLAQUETTE is smart. She’ll need luck weaving through but has a group-class finish on her. Her last four dry-track runs have seen three wins and her last-start flashing second, running some of the day’s best closing fractions. METEORITE has come back super, a track-record win fresh then bolted in at Sale, he has form around Garner, which ties in nicely here. EXPRESS PASS is unbeaten at 1100m and placed in a G2 Danehill Stakes here up the straight. ROCK PROPHET was a tough watch last time, can win! CAN’T BE DONE has Garner form but draws in.
Selections: 15. Plaquette (top tip), 3. Express Pass, 11. Meteorite, 18. Rock Prophet
Race 8: Bonvicini (19.00, 5.00) (each way)

Race 6: Captivant (3.40)
Race 6:
CAPTIVANT (2) Nice effort when winning last time at Randwick and was on debut last time. Cannot underestimate. SNEAKY FIVE (8) Finished on top last time at Moonee Valley and was on debut last time. Looks promising in this race. TIGER OF MALAY (3) Fought on gamely when winning last time at Randwick and having second career run. Has scope so do not ignore. GHOSTWRITER (1) Displayed potential when winning last run at Doomben and having second race start. Has some strong credentials in this race.
Race 7:
MADAM ROUGE (2) Really dug deep when winning last start at Caulfield. Shows very good closing speed. Contender. SAVATIANO (1) Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back at Caulfield. Should muster plenty of early toe. Could go well. WANDABAA (10) Rattled home nicely into 2nd last start at Randwick but carrying more weight than last time. Possesses good closing speed. Minor prospects. POSITIVE PEACE (3) Fought on well to win last start at Randwick and hard to fault at this trip. Genuine threat.
Race 6: Captivant
Race 7: Madam Rouge
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 6:
$1M on offer but a tricky race because a) obviously they’re new at the caper and b) only really SNEAKY FIVE has seen a significantly rain-affected track. I was very happy with CAPTIVANT’s debut on dry and it’s fingers crossed that he can translate what he did there to something damper. Winkers are applied. GHOSTWRITER went to QLD instead of contest against him and he looked solid on the speed. TIGER OF MALAY was $17 to $9 on debut and rewarded though that were involved in that push. That track was on the way downwards at the time. SNEAKY FIVE won on Soft 7 so has that box pretty much ticked. Hard to be bullish about it but they look a decent group.
Selections: 2. Captivant (top tip), 1. Ghostwriter, 3. Tiger Of Malay (SCRATCHED), 8. Sneaky Five
Race 7:
Speed from 4 and 1 crossing over. 3 slots in behind (?) and IRITHEA look for a front half spot slotting in. This is difficult. WANDABAA had a freshen up back in July but essentially she has been up since May and continues to race really well. Winning at 1400m is her challenge but she was close-up two back and matched up against many of these really well last start. Has won here on Heavy. Inclined to forgive JEN RULES that run but I’d love her to settle a bit closer and I’m not sure that’s going to happen. Does MADAM ROUGE come back for what may be a Heavy track?? And SAVATIANO for that matter??
Selections: 10. Wandabaa (value bet), 9. Jen Rules, 3. Positive Peace, 4. Sweet Deal
Race 1: 3. Parry Sound
Quaddie: 1,2/3,10/1,2,8,11,12/3,4,7,10
