Gold Coast Race 8: 1. Ballistic Boy
Flemington Race 3: 4. White Hibiscus

Flemington
Race 1:
TELLURIDE (12) Medaglia D’oro 2yo on debut for trainer James Cummings. Place looks more likely. SHAME FOR FAME (11) Brazen Beau 2yo having first race start for trainer Michael Kent Jnr & Mick Price. Absolutely right in this. CHAMELEON CHOICE (4) Matthew Smith 2yo runner on debut by Extreme Choice. Each way hope. STRIKE EAGLE (7) More Than Ready 2yo having first start for trainer Tony Mcevoy & Calvin Mcevoy. Respected competitor.
Race 2:
ZAC DE BOSS (1) Displayed potential when winning last run at Caulfield and backing up quickly. Looks very sharp this preparation with 2 wins from 2 runs. Take beating. SIREN ROCK (6) Had a comfortable win last run at Warrnambool but rising in class. One of the better chances. MILTON PARK (2) Solid effort when winning two runs back at Pakenham but first up. Should muster plenty of early speed. Likely threat. STILL BE FRIENDS (3) Finished on top last time at Werribee and displays good tactical speed. Has been a model of consistency since returning from a spell. Can feature.
Race 3:
WHITE HIBISCUS (4) Bold effort to win last run at Sandown and third up today. Expecting to settle just off the pace. This race looks suitable and is hard to overlook. OCEAN’S THIRTEEN (1) Displayed potential when winning two runs back at Moonee Valley. Should be going forward early. Could prove to be very difficult to beat. PART TIME LOVER (3) Got the upper hand late when winning last time at Sandown. Use betting as best guide. MAKE MINE HENNESSY (10) Winner three runs back at Moonee Valley and will be motoring home late. Place wouldn’t shock.
Race 4:
SACCHARO (1) Rattled home nicely into 3rd two runs back at Sandown and expected to be flashing home. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. WESTBROOK PARK (2) Snuck in a place when 2nd two runs back at Moonee Valley but bit of extra work to do with more weight today. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. Can make a claim. MURGANELLA (6) Got the upper hand late when winning last run at Bendigo but rises in weight. Very tidy this campaign winning 2 from 3 starts. Each way appeal. EL GUERROUJ (7) Third up today. Finished 3rd two runs back at Cranbourne. Each way hope.
Race 5:
ZOUSHINE (2) Bold effort to win last time at Caulfield and tracking very well this campaign. Likely to get a nice run behind the speed. Worth consideration. MALICORNE (4) Was first to greet the judge when winning last time at Moonee Valley and second up. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Winning chance in what appears a suitable race. DANA POINT (12) Bold effort to win last run at Mornington and can save some energy from the draw. No surprise to see a win. REAL FEELING (8) Shot clear to win two runs back at Wodonga and third up. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Place hope.
Race 6:
MOSH MUSIC (3) Caught the eye when 3rd three runs back at Moonee Valley and third up from a break. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Well suited and should prove hard to beat. DEFIBRILLATE (4) Fought on well to win last run at Caulfield and should race just behind the speed. One of the major hopes. PANCHO (5) Displayed potential when winning two runs back at Kilmore and can save some energy from the gate. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Respect against this field. STARS OF CARRUM (8) Freshened up. Jumped at $7.5 and ran 7th last run at Moonee Valley but will appreciate the drop in weight. At least a place chance.
Race 7:
RIDING THE WAVE (7) Won narrowly last time at this track and tracking very well this campaign. Key player. VIRAL (10) Managed to place 3rd last run at Caulfield and goes down in weight. Can feature. KING OF HASTINGS (6) Having second run back from a break. Was first to greet the judge when winning three runs back at Swan Hill and dropping weight today. Should muster plenty of early speed. Has to be included. VASSILATOR (3) Having third run back from a spell. Game effort to win last time around here. Suited in this race and can place today.
Race 8:
GARIMPEIRO (10) Got going late when 4th last time at Caulfield and having third run back from a spell. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Can feature. TYCOON BEC (13) Scored a victory last run at Moonee Valley and will benefit with the weight drop. Flying this campaign with 2 wins from 2 runs. Can’t knock. HIGH ‘N’ DRY (4) Won narrowly last time at Sandown and will be hitting the line strongly. Could run into the money. NOT MINE (6) Solid run to the line when 4th last start around here and likely to race off the speed. Not without claims.
Race 9:
IDIDITFORLOVE (5) Third up. Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Sandown and gets some weight taken off today. Respect. THE GENERAL (10) Had a break from racing and returns to competition. Had a comfortable win three runs back at Cranbourne and displays good tactical speed. Stays under notice. CHINA AFFAIR (4) Having second run back from a break. Nice effort when winning two runs back at Sandown but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Genuine threat. THAT GIRL (15) Having third run back from a break. Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
NOTE; Rail 6m. Was 3m New Year’s Day and there was no pattern evident. The two we have seen on raceday come through the same race at Geelong won in moderate time but MICRO did hit the line quite nicely. Plenty of good jumpout form from the debutantes here! CHAMELEON CHOICE held second in a Sydney trial Jan 4 behind one who looked exceptional. TELLURIDE closed hard to win her latest trial in Sydney and was untouched doing it. ABSEILER jumped out with SHAME FOR FAME, both went well. KALEIDOSCOPE EYES has speed ability.
Selections: 12. Telluride (top tip), 4. Chameleon Choice, 3. Cardinal Gem, 1. Abseiler
Race 2:
SPEED: 3 may lead 1,4,7 handy? Thin race. Suspect HICKOK may be the value improver here? He raced way too fresh first-up then went back in trip last week and was beaten for speed in fast race before working home quite nicely late. Third in that race was Yulong Command who did beat EL SANTO at MV in December however El Santo pulled up lame (and was heavily backed). ZAC DE BOSS is two for two and ticked the dry/1400m box last time. STILL BE FRIENDS wasn’t bad here in a better race then won Class 1 with pattern on side. SIREN ROCK and THE MARG FACTOR hopes.
Selections: 5. Hickok (top tip), 1. Zac De Boss, 3. Still Be Friends, 4. El Salto
Race 3:
SPEED: 1,5 from 3,11 ? WHITE HIBISCUS was second-up and 1300m-to-1600m at Lakeside when winning impressively. The fast speed up front set-up a strong overall figure, she stays at 1600m but is top pick. OCEAN’S THIRTEEN certainly did not crawl up front here last time, she held on well and had last week’s impressive winner Hasstobegood behind her. LADY D’ORO ran on well behind Hasstobegood, this is her first go 1600m. PART TIME LOVER won on same day as White Hibiscus last start, her Brazen Song form ties in. MAKE MINE HENNESSY’s last two runs have been good, overs?
Selections: 4. White Hibiscus (Best of the Day), 1. Ocean’s Thirteen, 10. Make Mine Hennessy, 2. Lady D’oro
Race 4:
SPEED: 6,11 & 9 from 10 and maybe 2? SACCHARO made very good ground (race-fastest final 2 x 200m splits) in on-pace dominated race here last time when second-up off a very long break, to 1600m now is perfect. WESTBROOK PARK was wide last time, he chased the flying Astraeus prior. FOURNAISE easily beat HUNAMOSA and that horse then ran an OK 6th here NY Day in a deeper race than this. IL DIVO (overs?), MURGANELLA (on-pace), EL GUERROUJ (third-up), ANNUNCIATE and HOSTILE TAKEOVER are all chances…
Selections: 1. Saccharo (top tip), 2. Westbrook Park, 8. Fournaise, 6. Murganella
Race 5:
ZOUSHINE was dominant at Caulfield, behind her was a blanket finish (2nd to 6th = .5L). MISS DIVINE EM held second. CHROME ANGEL was a forgive run. NIGHT OF DELIGHT was in an awkward spot and race-fastest home. MALICORNE easily beat REAL FEELING fresh at MV and they thrashed MISS BANK PLACE who was then part of that blanket finish for second behind Zoushine (off a wide run). ZESTY BELLE won her maiden well fresh with gaps behind. That ties in ZACOUVER who jumped out same day as LUISELLI and both went well.
Selections: 4. Malicorne (top tip), 2. Zoushine, 16. Zesty Belle, 14. Night Of Delight
Race 6:
SPEED: 9 looks leader but is a dual acceptor so? MOSH MUSIC can settle closer today third-up out to 2000m and looks ready to fire! He ran day’s fastest last 600m in the Lord Stks (equal with gun sprinter Pandemic) off a slow speed. DEFIBRILLATE won that Lord Stks and was only second-up himself, taking that win at face value. PANCHO was solid there. GOLD FIELDS forgivable. INFLUENTIAL GIRL is flying and has Tralee Rose form. DOUBLE YOU TEE has Persan form! His last run in worst ground with 62kg was terrific.
Selections: 3. Mosh Music (top tip), 6. Double You Tee, 4. Defibrillate, 5. Pancho
Race 7:
SPEED: 7 & 9 from 5,6 with 1,10 possibles. BLAZEJOWSKI was six weeks between runs into a (fast) Xmas Stks last time, he didn’t quicken but was strong to the line with 62kg and 1400m here means he can settle closer. BRAVE SONG ran home hard that same race recording an identical last 200m split. VASSILATOR was only second-up when producing a big finish/win here on what was no swoopers track. NEVER AGAIN beat VIRAL when also only second-up and has run well in open class here. RIDING THE WAVE was brave last time and gets weight relief.
Selections: 1. Blazejowski (value bet), 3. Vassilator, 2. Brave Son, 8. Never Again
Race 8:
SPEED: 13 may lead 9,1,6 with 5 closer? 3 next? GARIMPEIRO stayed 1400m second-up, ended up well back off tardy start and a slow mid-race tempo then ran home in one of the day’s fastest last 200m splits (11.08), he does get to 1800m quickly but stable can pull this off. PRES DE TOI will likely go up big odds and is worth a nibble for mine, totally luckless last week off two very good efforts and senior rider D.Lane up. MOSCOW RED was much better last time and gets 2.5kg swing on HIGH ‘N’ DRY who did win well at Lakeside. NOT MINE back to 1800m can win. TYCOON BEC has the upside.
Selections: 10. Garimpeiro (top tip), 12. Pres De Toi, 6. Not Mine, 4. High ‘n’ Dry
Race 9:
WILMOT PASS and EXETER resume, both jumped out OK, they are 1-all with Wilmot Pass winning their latest clash back in July, Sansom was third that day. CHINA AFFAIR went super first-up in day’s fastest last 200m (11.47) and splitting last week’s Caulfield quinella. IDIDITFORLOVE was wide/good at Caulfield and that race was won in fast time. THAT GIRL was forgivable behind him that day for mine. SPIRIT OF AQUADA is drawn to swoop. THE GENERAL jumped out nicely. VIDUKA is very honest but needs a win. LA BELLA COSTA and VICI form ties together.
Selections: 4. China Affair (top tip), 5. Ididitforlove, 15. That Girl, 3. Wilmot Pass
Race 1:
11. Shame For Fame, 12. Telluride, 7. Strike Eagle, 8. Telegraph
Race 2:
6. Siren Rock, 3. Still Be Friends, 1. Zac De Boss, 2. Milton Park
Race 3:
4. White Hibiscus, 2. Lady D’oro, 1. Ocean’s Thirteen, 8. It’s True
Race 4:
2. Westbrook Park, 1. Saccharo, 6. Murganella, 7. El Guerrouj
Race 5:
16. Zesty Belle, 6. Zacouver, 12. Dana Point, 4. Malicorne
Race 6:
3. Mosh Music, 6. Double You Tee, 9. Mushaireb, 12. Influential Girl
Race 7:
3. Vassilator, 4. Guizot, 7. Riding The Wave
Race 8:
3. Starouz, 6. Not Mine, 4. High ‘n’ Dry, 10. Garimpeiro
Race 9:
15. That Girl, 11. Vici, 7. Spirit of Aquada, 5. Ididitforlove
Race 2: Siren Rock (3.60)
Race 4: Saccharo (3.60) – BEST BET
Race 6: Sentimentalist (15.00, 4.20) (win, place 1×3)
Race 7: Riding The Wave (3.00) (win), Vassilator (8.00) (win)
Race 8: Garimpeiro (4.80)
Gold Coast
Race 8: Ballistic Boy (3.90)
Race 8:
BALLISTIC BOY (1) Game effort to win last run at Doomben but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Should be swooping on the field late. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. PARADEE (10) Honest race when 2nd last start at Caulfield. Can give this a shake. FROSTY ROCKS (2) Landed the spoils when winning three runs back at Rosehill. Likely to be well placed early. Massive hope. KIRWAN’S LANE (4) Really dug deep when winning last run at Randwick and always seems to find the line well. Going well this campaign winning 3 from 5 starts. One of the hopes.
Race 8: Paradee
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 8:
The second running of ‘The Wave’ sees Frosty Rocks looking the leader, suggest 13 & 15 will be doing the trailing. BALLISTIC BOY was a scratching at the gates last Saturday & no doubt missing the run will have affected his preparation for ‘The Subzero’ next week. Whatever the case going forward he still looks very well placed here, flying this prep the 1800m is still a step up in trip & that’s what he’s chasing. INDIAN DREAMER was the ‘run of the day’ last Saturday powering home, up in weight & this harder however must include. FROSTY ROCKS in the mix, the 1800m is the concern there though.
Selections: 1. Ballistic Boy (Best of the Day), 8. Indian Dreamer, 2. Frosty Rocks, 10. Paradee
Randwick
Race 7: Pancho (14.00, 3.80) (each way)
Race 1:
MALKOVICH (2) Got the cash when winning two runs back at Canterbury and likely to be well placed early. Tracking very well this campaign. Rates well in this race. TRIPLE ACE (3) Got the upper hand late when winning last run at Canterbury and racing again inside a week. Very tidy this preparation winning 4 from as many attempts. Hard to dismiss. MATOWATAKPE (1) Second up. Jumped at $13 and came in 6th last time at this course but will try to take advantage of the alley. Can get the job done. DAWN TOO GOOD (7) Gave a strong sight when 2nd two runs back at Gosford and should be going forward early. Up to these.
Race 2:
PINNACLE PRINCE (4) Having second run back from a spell. Handy enough when winning last run here but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Has lots of appeal and should go close. TORO TORO (3) Third up from a spell. Flew home into 3rd last run at this course. Solid claims. MOYASSAR (5) Brave effort to win last start at Armidale and gets a reduction in weight. Good prospect for the exotics at least. STEP ON FIRE (2) Finished on top two runs back at Scone and can save some energy from the gate. Very competitive this preparation. Place wouldn’t shock.
Race 3:
ZING (4) Stormed home when 2nd last time at this course and should race just behind the speed. Capable of taking this out. FOXBOROUGH (2) Fought on well to win last start at Warwick Farm. Likely to get a nice run behind the speed. Been in the money 3 from 4 attempts this campaign. Capable of taking this out. DONANDKIM (3) Grabbed towards the finish when 3rd last start at Warwick Farm. Drawn to sit just in behind the speed. Worth a ticket. FIFTEEN ARIA (9) Got the upper hand late when winning last time at Warwick Farm and gets a reduction in weight. Well placed and has solid claims.
Race 4:
ALL TIME LEGEND (5) Second up from a break. Good win last run around here but rising in grade. Don’t overlook. SUBEDAR (4) First up after a break of over 1 year. Put in a competitive run when placing 2nd two runs back at Rosehill and finishes off strongly. Suited. ST COVET’S SPIRIT (7) Showed a good turn of foot when 2nd two runs back at this venue. Will be hitting the line strongly. Not without claims. STARLA (9) Rocketed home into 2nd last run at this venue and carrying less weight this time. Should race just behind the speed. Marginal hopes.
Race 5:
ULYSSES (4) Winner two runs back at Warwick Farm and dropping weight today. Gets a chance to win. BRUTALITY (6) Having second run back from a break. Scored a victory last run at Warwick Farm and gets a nice run behind the speed. Worth a ticket. COME ALONG (3) Was fighting out the finish when winning three runs back at Rosehill. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. Should be very competitive and is a genuine threat. DONANDKIM (10) Gave a strong sight when 3rd last time at Warwick Farm and suited by the weight drop. Will be looking to sit just behind the pace. Big danger.
Race 6:
BIG PARADE (2) Was very impressive when winning last run at this course and displays good tactical speed. Take holding out. BANDERSNATCH (4) Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Moonee Valley and likely to race off the speed. Chance to break through and a could give a show. MO’S CROWN (6) Left nothing to chance when winning three runs back at Kembla Grange and should race on the speed. Been in the money 3 from 4 attempts this campaign. Place hope. HANDSPUN (7) Bold effort to win two runs back here and will be trying to topple them late. Exotics hope in this event.
Race 7:
SPIRIT RIDGE (2) Got the upper hand late when winning last run at the track but up in weight today. Has genuine claims in this race. LAURE ME IN (3) Fought on well to win three runs back at Newcastle. Likely to race off the speed. Will be competitive. FULMINA (11) Dashed home into 3rd three runs back at Rosehill. Possesses good finishing speed. No shock to see a win. SIGNIFICANCE (8) Won narrowly last run around here and should be going forward early. Going well this campaign. Keep in mind.
Race 8:
CRIMINAL CODE (5) Got the upper hand late when winning two runs back at Warwick Farm and likely to race off the speed. Been in the money 4 from 5 attempts this campaign. Strong claims. SACRAMENTO (6) Second up from a break. Won narrowly two runs back at Flemington. Can figure. WORD FOR WORD (4) Game effort to win three runs back at Rosehill and having third run back from a spell. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. Goes close. MY DEMETRA (12) Showed a good turn of foot when 2nd last start here and will benefit with the weight drop. Won’t be far away during the run. Include in chances.
Race 9:
HELGA (3) Third up today. Started $7.5 and finished 5th last start around here but will benefit with the weight drop. Among the chances. BETCHA FLYING (1) Good result placing 2nd last run at this track. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Rates an each way chance. STRAWB (8) Hit the line well when 2nd last start at Warwick Farm. Racing consistently this campaign. Each way prospects. BOWERY BREEZE (12) Handy enough when winning last run around here. Displays good finishing speed. Minor prospects.
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
Heavy 8 was the midweek rating for Randwick and the forecast leading to the weekend reads ‘possible showers’. Hopefully we can avoid getting too much rain though and I dare say we will be on Soft on the day and possibly even improving to a 5 (or thereabouts). Let’s begin with a BM72 sprint for 3 & 4YO. Decent speed despite medium numbers. MATOWATAKPE fitter for first-up and able to stalk to decent effect this time. Comes from the strongest race and handles wet and dry. TRIPLE ACE can’t be stopped at the moment and this is the next natural progression for the colt.
Selections: 1. Matowatakpe (top tip), 3. Triple Ace, 2. Malkovich, 4. Frozen In Time
Race 2:
6 and 10 also accepted at Gold Coast. This Cavanough runner PINNACLE PRINCE is set to start the shortest Highway favourite since stablemate It’s Me back in September. He was very impressive on Boxing Day from a gate that got him a long way back. Now only has to find an extra 100m and really ought to see a kinder time in run. Times suggest he can win this on the way to better class. TORO TORO peaks 3rd-up and meets him 4 kilos better off for a couple of lengths so is a danger…..of sorts.
Selections: 4. Pinnacle Prince (top tip), 3. Toro Toro, 11. Chap’s Dream, 16. Nuremburg Castle
Race 3:
3 (if here and not R5) can lead 2, 6 and 4. ZING emerges from a race the equal of this and peaks 3rd-up. Should have the chance to sit just off and come with a rush. ANGEL HELENA can stalk similarly in run. Last start not bad but the result was affected by her barrier I think. FIFTEEN ARIA the big query of the race but the fact they take this on straight up from the Maiden looks a positive if anything. I am inclined to include high up and think she could make the step down there with 52.5 kilos.
Selections: 4. Zing (top tip), 5. Angel Helena, 9. Fifteen Aria
Race 4:
No pace! Really not much here at all but my best guess is that 8 leads 5?? ALL TIME LEGEND has now surely earned respect as a horse for this level. Impressive on return and he’s now won 2 from 2 here and 1400m is ideal for his second run back. SUBEDAR off a length of break that can concern but went through to win his latest trial pretty well and competed at a high level when last seen. The market may be telling with him but I choose to respect. I fancy MCCORMACK could be an improver 2nd-up. Not favoured by his barrier when resuming.
Selections: 5. All Time Legend (Best of the Day), 4. Subedar, 3. Mccormack
Race 5:
1, 7, 8, 9 anad 10 dual acceptors so this could look very different come the day. OFF SHAW the obvious leader but could be kept company by DONANDKIM and GOT UNDERS. ULYSSES not far away either. BRUTALITY returned in sound style at a lower level but will have many fans here at his first Saturday attempt. The extra distance suits perfectly and he was very consistent last prep. 2nd-up evidence (unplaced from two) is far from conclusive and I’d prefer to respect than doubt. JUVENTUS also in the previous and far from the worst in whatever race they choose. GREEK HERO wants that drying track.
Selections: 6. Brutality (top tip), 1. Juventus, 7. Greek Hero, 4. Ulysses
Race 6:
BIG PARADE presumably our leader. Disappointing first-up with no explanation but loyal supporters found their reward last start as he cruised to victory. Up 3 kilos but has to be respected. HANDSPUN is a more-than-handy mare that races well fresh and comes in off two pleasing trials, the latest a winning one. BANDERSNATCH comes back to Sydney and drops back to 1200m to boot. Look for him late. KING OF HASTINGS the class runner of this lot but switches north after a return run he is presumably significantly better for (seeing as the market did not fancy him at all).
Selections: 7. Handspun (value bet), 4. Bandersnatch, 2. Big Parade, 1. King Of Hastings
Race 7:
Good depth to the feature of the day. MISSYBEEL and GONE BYE to lead out but there are plenty here that could pressure as well. SPIRIT RIDGE had a stirring battle last start I doubt we’ve seen quite the best of him just yet. Trickier gate today though? I wonder where WOLFE is at, after one run back and 6 weeks since. He trialled close-up to LAURE ME IN prior to Christmas and has the class to feature if he’s fit and well. Can either let a couple of others do the work of leading or get there himself. Clear topweight so no easy task but I fancy he can run a race. SIGNIFICANCE drops back from 2400m, which may not faze. FULMINA will give a start but capable of running on.
Selections: 1. Wolfe (top tip), 6. Gone Bye, 8. Significance, 2. Spirit Ridge
Race 8:
SACRAMENTO ran really well first-up now I suppose the query is staying at 1800m. Maybe could lead today though and there’s not heaps of opposition at the front end. 12 and 14 to cross up?? I don’t mind KISS THE BRIDE here after a promising 2nd-up outing on Boxing Day. Out a furlong is perfect and while he still has to haul plenty of weight even after the claim he will be very happy dropping back from BM88 level. WORD FOR WORD through the same race of course. She can be hard to catch but at the same time pretty consistent. All her stablemates (Waller had five originally but scratched RE EDIT straightaway) have a chance.
Selections: 1. Kiss The Bride (top tip), 4. Word For Word, 3. New Arrangement, 6. Sacramento
Race 9:
Solid depth to this race for the girls but it’s not easy to assess from Wednesday acceptances as 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 were dual acceptors. That’s right, just about half the field. Main pace provided by INVINCIANO and VITESSE. MORE PROPHETS was 1100 to 1400m last time and hasn’t yet offered anything but sound performances. BETCHA FLYING (scratched last week from Heavy) deserves a change of luck this prep and a drying track would be the first thing she requires in that regard. She’s versatile in her settling position but from that draw she is going to need to be. HELGA should be peaking 3rd-up and gets all favours.
Selections: 10. More Prophets (top tip), 8. Strawb, 1. Betcha Flying, 3. Helga
