Race 1:
SANDY PRINCE (3) Solid win last run at Sandown but up in class. Likely to be well placed early. Prominent showing expected and won’t be far off them. VENTING (9) Landed the spoils when winning last start at Bendigo and having second run today. Worth a ticket. SEALION (4) Tidy effort when 2nd last start at Sandown and will try to take advantage of the alley. Worth a bet. SUNFALL (1) Brave effort to win last time at Flemington but rising in weight today. Possesses very good closing speed. Place hope.
Race 2:
MR BRIGHTSIDE (8) Won last start at Sandown. Has genuine claims in this race. WORSFOLD (15) Bold effort to win three runs back at Sandown and dropping weight today. Has been a model of consistency since resuming from a break. Contender. CHIEF ALTONY (3) Chimed in with a win three runs back at Sandown and strong performer at the trip. Can win. NIKAU SPUR (4) Finished on top last time at Sandown and very competitive this preparation. Possesses very good closing speed. One in a race with many chances.
Race 3:
GENERATION (2) Having second run back from a spell. Won by a huge margin two runs back at Caulfield and should muster plenty of early toe. Main hope. TAUNTING (6) Did enough to win last time at Gawler and expecting to settle positively. Could prove hard to beat. HUESCA (10) First up. Brave effort to win last start at Randwick and fitter for debut run. Looks to be the value. ATHELRIC (5) Having second run back from a break. Was all too good winning two runs back at Randwick and has a positive gate. Blinkers off could be an important change. Strong each way hope.
Race 4:
HEART OF PUISSANCE (8) Won by a big margin last time at Flemington but fresh after a break. Interesting gear change of blinkers off first time. Can have an impact. DEGRAVES (9) Having second run back from a break. Really dug deep when winning two runs back at Flemington and suited by the weight drop. Winnable race. PANCHO (5) Won by a huge margin last time at this venue. Likely to race off the speed. Has to be included. COOLTH (12) Good show finishing 2nd last run at this course and displays good finishing speed. Among better hopes.
Race 5:
PORTLAND SKY (3) Solid win two runs back at Caulfield and shows good early pace. Strongly consider. SEPTEMBER RUN (8) Didn’t find the line when 8th last start at Randwick. Happy to forgive that run and expected to be flashing home. Serious player. ESTA LA ROCA (9) Ran well when 2nd last time around here and strong performer at this trip. Expecting to settle positively. Capable of getting into the money. THE INFERNO (1) Got the prize when winning two runs back at Kranji and should be ready to go second up. Drawn to sit just in behind the speed. This field suits.
Race 6:
ARGENTIA (8) Showed promise when winning last run at Flemington but resumes after a spell. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. SCORCHED EARTH (3) Handy enough when winning two runs back at this course and will be positive in the run early. Capable of getting into the money. ZOUZARELLA (7) Fought on well to win last run around here and having second run today. Expect to go close. LITERARY MAGNATE (9) Was very impressive when winning two runs back at Warrnambool but first up from a spell. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. Won’t be far away and represents an each way player.
Race 7:
BELLA NIPOTINA (14) Won narrowly last time at Caulfield and likely to race off the speed. One of the main dangers. AWAY GAME (7) Was fighting out the finish when winning two runs back at Eagle Farm and will benefit with the weight drop. Expecting to settle just off the pace. One of the major hopes. PINTOFF (11) Fought on well to win last time at Caulfield and strong performer at this distance. Should muster plenty of early speed. Knockout chance in this. WILD PLANET (2) Flashed home late into 2nd two runs back at Doomben and has very good finishing speed. Can measure up to this company.
Race 8:
SUPERSTORM (4) Having second run back from a spell. Nice effort to run into 3rd three runs back at Caulfield and displays good closing speed. Well placed and has solid claims. ELEPHANT (11) Did enough to win last run at Caulfield and second up. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Should go well. SIERRA SUE (14) Was first to greet the judge when winning last time at Caulfield and can find a nice position from the draw. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Winnable race. SHOT OF IRISH (8) Couldn’t keep the momentum throughout when 3rd last run around here but rises in weight. Place hope.
Race 9:
SKY MAN (3) Proven record when second up with 2 wins from 4 starts. Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Caulfield and will be well suited at the trip. Classy enough for this field and is one of the major players. HI STRANGER (2) Got the upper hand late when winning last start at Caulfield and tracking very well this campaign. Drawn to sit just in behind the speed. Must respect in this event. CORMORANT (1) Was $2.6 and tailed off when 4th last time at Gowran Park. Should bounce back today but resumes after a spell. Should just about get the run of the race. Blinkers off could be an important change. Likely to fill a place. WINNING PARTNER (6) Came on strongly when 4th last start at this course and displays very good finishing speed. Could run into the money.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
NOTE: Rail true, as it was last meeting when inside rail was not A-Spot. SUNFALL won well at Flemington from the back in a slowly run race and beat FORGOT YOU, who was touch unlucky for mine. He lost his spot then had to wait before running home race-fastest last 200m, he was only first up. SANDY PRINCE beat SEALION easily latest (gaps behind) but runner-up was 1000m to 1400m at start two, 3rd SAINT TROPEZ was not far off Star Spirit prior: that’s the 3YO who split Sunfall and Forgot You at Flemington so it ties in. Liked debut wins VENTING, BENCZKOWSKI but nothing outstanding “on the clock”.
Selections: 6. Forgot You (Top Tip), 3. Sandy Prince, 1. Sunfall, 4. Sealion
Race 2:
Not sure leader but many of these can race handy at 1600m. CHIEF ALTONY was luckless last time, he easily beat FACEMASK three back but draws the carpark here. NIKAU SPUR ran on well Lakeside in good form race then was 7-weeks off into Hillside latest and won well. WORSFOLD made up very good ground behind him and drops to 54kg. ALCYONE looked strong returning as a gelding, he can sit closer here at 1600m? That ties in AIR DEFENCE. MR BRIGHTSIDE is here off three very good wins, wet no issue! ORLEANS ROCK a hope but gate awkward.
Selections: 8. Mr Brightside (Top Tip), 4. Nikau Spur, 9. Alcyone, 3. Chief Altony
Race 3:
GENERATION was just no match for top-shelf Ingratiating fresh, fitter, and won well at 1200m at start two on soft. TAUNTING is a good horse, he looked terrific in recent SA trial. Proven wet! ATHELRIC was good fresh in fast race, off neat jumpout form but doubt wet helps. MAGIC MAX resumes, he wasn’t far off Heresy at start two, that filly crossed the line with Artorius last week. He trialled well with Ballynora (who’s run 3rd to Generation). The $34 early looks massive! HUESCA had Construct behind him on debut and beat (smart) older horse in recent trial. THREE KINGS, BRIGANTINE & BIFROST hopes
Selections: 6. Taunting (Top Tip), 2. Generation, 10. Huesca, 3. Magic Max
Race 4:
SPEED: 11 may lead 1,5,9 then 4,7? DEGRAVES looked the winner here last time but didn’t finish off, maybe it was the firm ground or the fact he was 9-weeks between runs in fast-run race? His wet track form is excellent and he is in here with no weight. PANCHO comes off a strong win in brutal (fast-run) race and handles Soft ground. COOLTH looks ready to win and 2040m ideal. BARADE was terrific fresh, not sure how wet he wants it though. HEART OF PUISSANCE was last scratching last week in Sydney, if right, he goes close!
Selections: 9. Degraves (Top Tip), 12. Coolth, 8. Heart Of Puissance, 5. Pancho
Race 5:
Speed good. PORTLAND SKY resumes and has been trialling brilliantly, his dead-heat in an Oakleigh Plate when absorbing pressure was huge and he beat all-bar Masked Crusader here in a William Reid. SEPTEMBER RUN was not far off him in that William Reid and her run was excellent from back/ wide against pattern of the night. Both are proven on Soft ground, no worse. BOLD STAR was 2.8L off Portland Sky in that Oakleigh Plate, no recent wins the knock. Trialled quite well in SA. ESTA LA ROCA is not in the same stratosphere as September Run but fit, firing, handles wet.
Selections: 3. Portland Sky (Best of the Day), 8. September Run, 4. Bold Star, 9. Esta La Roca
Race 6:
SPEED: 3, 10, 12. 2 sits closer. SCORCHED EARTH did a great job to hold third in Quezette Stakes when on fast speed in race dominated by swoopers. The two that beat her (Heresy/Gimmie Par) have form against elite males. LIBIAMO closed off nicely there, only Najmaty had faster last 200m, yes 1200m! ARGENTIA impressed on debut and won recent trial on heavy ground. Stablemate ZOUZARELLA also impressed on debut beating Zapateo (she beat Libiamo prior). Like MAC ‘N’ CHEESE as a horse too! LA ROCQUE flew home fresh. LITERARY MAGNATE was beaten by good male start two, in fast time! Jumpout: good!
Selections: 9. Literary Magnate (Value Bet), 3. Scorched Earth, 8. Argentia, 7. Zouzarella
Race 7:
Speed good. DALASAN boasts a second to Behemoth when fresh. WILD PLANET just missed Eduardo fresh in May. AYSAR had slow recovery in Aurie’s Star, expect better. ANCESTRY disappointed fresh but bolted in here 2nd-up last prep. AWAY GAME was excellent fresh with 58kg, gate? Is fence off? BELLA NIPOTINA just missed her in Qld then won well latest when 7-week off, draws in. KAHMA LASS was a long way from Away Game in Feb. RIDDLE ME THAT ran on well for 2nd to Ancestry here fresh last prep. PINTOFF beat Away Game latest and is unbeaten wet. JUSTACANTA is up to these. FRONT PAGE is fitter.
Selections: 14. Bella Nipotina (Top Tip), 7. Away Game, 6. Ancestry, 2. Wild Planet
Race 8:
SPEED: 2,8,12 mainly. ELEPHANT has to come up to WFA but I am convinced he can measure up here. He did run near identical time as G2 Lawrence Stks when making his Oz debut and he did it off a slower 1st-800m sectional. He is yet to see wet ground. SIERRA SUE won that Lawrence Stks with BEST OF DAYS and SUPERSTORM hitting the line nicely, they’re both fitter. NONCONFORMIST was luckless and good! STREETS OF AVALON lame/ forgive. SHOT OF IRISH can measure up here at odds. Leader bias? Big watch DAWN PATROL and PORT GUILLAUME.
Selections: 11. Elephant (Top Tip), 4. Superstorm, 8. Shot Of Irish, 7. Nonconformist
Race 9:
SPEED: 9, 8 can lead 4, 2. SKYMAN just missed VIRAL here when resuming and made his run on inside rail, which was not the best ground. He is a good second-up horse. Viral had chased King Magnus prior and that horse gave Ayrton a fright last week. WINNING PARTNER rushed home out wide in that same Skyman race. MR MONEY BAGS a hope if track not too wet. TORYJOY has had plenty against her of late, best roughie? HI STRANGER is flying and unbeaten here. CORMORANT makes his Oz debut and has won at 1600m at home. Big watch! AUSSIE NUGGET and WICKLOW TOWN hopes in light.
Selections: 3. Skyman (Top Tip), 9. Toryjoy, 2. Hi Stranger, 1. Cormorant

Race 1:
PARKSVILLE (2) Was all too good winning two runs back at Coffs Harbour and shows good early pace. Can go on with it. MOLLY NAILS (19) Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Canberra and displays good tactical speed. Can’t knock. TARA JASMINE (4) Having second run back from a break. Did a good job when winning last run at Grafton and gets some weight taken off today. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Chance to break through and a could give a show. MR HUSSILL (3) Chimed in with a win two runs back at this track and third up from a spell. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Could run a race.
Race 2:
SHAIK (3) Left nothing to chance when winning three runs back at Rosehill and expected to be flashing home. Can feature. NAGS TO RICHES (5) Got the upper hand late when winning two runs back at this track and third up. Possesses very good finishing speed. Chance to break through and a could give a show. SELBUROSE (7) Gave a strong sight when 2nd last time at Kembla Grange and shows good early pace. Has run into the money 3 from 4 attempts this preparation. Must respect in this event. PATINO RUBY (8) Chimed in with a win last run at Rosehill and gets a nice run behind the speed. Winning chance in what appears a suitable race.
Race 3:
ALWAYS SURE (3) Fought on well to win last run at this course but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Finishes off strongly. Right in this. TAMPERING (6) Game effort to win last time around here and should be going forward early. Going well this campaign winning 2 from as many starts. Don’t dismiss. BAZOOKA (4) Fought on well to win last start at Hawkesbury and suited by the weight drop. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Been in the money 5 from 6 attempts this campaign. Place hope. CASINO MONDIAL (1) Tidy effort when 3rd last start at this track but bit of extra work to do with more weight today. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Maybe for the trifectas and a marginal hope.
Race 4:
SUPER EFFORT (4) Really dug deep when winning last start at this venue. Shows very good closing speed. Suitably placed in this race. PRINCE INVINCIBLE (2) Scored a victory last start at Kembla Grange and displays good tactical speed. Going well this preparation. Can get the job done. HOT SPRING GOLD (5) Was all too good winning last time around here but rises in weight. Racing consistently since returning from a break. Include in chances. ZOROCAT (6) Placed 3rd last time around here and should be going forward early. Been in the money 7 from 8 attempts this campaign. This field suits.
Race 5:
NATURE STRIP (1) Handy enough when winning last run around here and likely to be well placed early. Expect a strong showing. WILD RULER (3) Could build on a strong first up record. Fought on well to win two runs back at this venue but carrying more weight than last time. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Can give this a shake. TREKKING (2) Resuming. Hit the line well when 4th last time at Eagle Farm and goes down in class. Will be in the finish. STANDOUT (4) Races well fresh winning 2 from 4 starts. Looked outclassed when 17th last time at Flemington but blinkers go off for the first time. Does take a while to get into stride. Solid place bet prospects.
Race 6:
NAJMATY (7) Handy enough when winning three runs back at Caulfield and second up from a spell. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Big danger. FOUR MOVES AHEAD (1) Second up from a break. Good show when finishing 3rd last time at this track. Winning hope. SHE’S ALL CLASS (4) Was a comprehensive winner three runs back at Wyong and will be motoring home late. Suitably placed in this race. SWIFT WITNESS (2) Having second run back from a break. Won narrowly last run around here. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Trifectas chance.
Race 7:
ZAAKI (1) Landed the spoils when winning last time at Eagle Farm and expecting to settle positively. Racing in good fashion and a definite winning chance in what appears a suitable race. DREAMFORCE (2) Charged home into 2nd three runs back at Rosehill and second up from a break. Should muster plenty of early speed. Major player. LION’S ROAR (3) Kept finding the line when 3rd two runs back at this venue and displays good closing speed. Good chance of threatening these. ROCK (6) Was $12 and below par when beaten by just short of 3L at this course last run on a good track. Expecting improvement today and has good finishing speed. No surprise to see a win.
Race 8:
CASCADIAN (2) Having second run back from a spell. Fought on well to win three runs back at the track and finishes off strongly. Appears well in this. THINK IT OVER (1) Having second run back from a break. Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back at Rosehill. Contender. SHE’S IDEEL (13) Rocketed home into 3rd last time at the track and possesses good closing speed. Should be very competitive and is a genuine threat. KUKERACHA (12) Having second run back from a break. Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Eagle Farm but racing in stronger company today. Looks value and a good place bet.
Race 9:
KING OF SPARTA (13) Spaced the field to win last run at Kembla Grange. Drawn to sit just in behind the speed. Racing consistently since returning from a break. Winning chance in this line up. GEIST (11) Having second run back from a break. Did its best work late when 2nd last time here and finishes off strongly. One of the main dangers. EIGHT DIAMONDS (16) Nice effort when winning three runs back at Canterbury. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. Don’t dismiss. SAQUON (17) Was fighting out the finish when winning last time at Wyong and should muster plenty of early toe. Could work into the placings.
Race 10:
ATISHU (13) Winner last start at this course and second up. Should just about get the run of the race. Go close. MATOWATAKPE (11) Showed promise when winning two runs back at this course. Likely to get a nice run behind the speed. Racing consistently since returning from a break. Might be one for the placings. CEPHEUS (4) Was first to greet the judge when winning two runs back at Deauville and second up from a spell. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Worth entertaining from a place and exotics perspective. BIGBOYROY (16) Having third run back from a break. Won narrowly three runs back at this venue and suited by the weight drop. Must come into consideration.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
Conditions were ranked Soft 6 on Wednesday morning. With fine weather through to Friday I’m going to suggest we can wake up to a Good 4 on raceday but the forecast says b/t 10-20mm of rain will arrive at some stage on Saturday. Just when that ran lobs is obviously crucial to what we will have to deal with. Rail out 4 metres. We begin with the Highway and we should see 2, 14, 19 and 13 settle at the front end. TARA JASMINE returned much as expected and could take the next step here. May just need a touch of luck from the inside draw. MOLLY NAILS also in the next but gets a run here and returns with some expectation.
Selections: 4. Tara Jasmine (Top Tip), 2. Parksville, 19. Molly Nails, 10. Moetta
Race 2:
A race named in tribute to Nini Vascotto, a woman who will be missed by so many. 1 and 11 dual acceptors. Pace provided by 7 and 2 primarily but 8, 9, 10 and 11 all capable of pushing up at least handy. Deferring to some fresh mares. PATINO RUBY registered her best win at the end of last prep and could come back with another peak. Like her settling at midfield first-up at 1100m. SPIRANAC can do something similar in terms of settling position and she launched late at 1100m when resuming last prep. MOLLY NAILS has to be factored in if here instead of the Highway. NAGS TO RICHES and THE NEON KNIGHT also hopes in a race of many chances.
Selections: 8. Patino Ruby (Top Tip), 6. Spiranac, 11. Molly Nails, 5. Nags To Riches
Race 3:
6, 9, 11, 12 16 set the pace in this week’s Midway. CASINO MONDIAL steps back out to 1800m and takes a little claim away from 61.5kg courtesy of JVO. He’s right in the midst of a very good prep and well proven at the distance. Won’t be faze if we are on Soft (or worse). ALWAYS SURE beat him last start of course but does rise up plenty in weight for his first attempt beyond a mile. He won’t want too much rain to fall. TAMPERING has come back flying and will be forward once again.
Selections: 1. Casino Mondial (Top Tip), 3. Always Sure, 6. Tampering, 13. Love Me Quietly
Race 4:
6 and 12 dual acceptors. To be honest this isn’t a race I’ve got much confidence about. In the end I have leaned to 3YOs but that all could change pending conditions. STARMAN was obviously quite impressive on debut and we have seen a couple of winners from that race already. CONSTRUCT likely to settle a fair way back from a wider draw but he went close in a good race 3 weeks ago. Obviously we have seen Coastwatch come out and win from the Up & Coming. BRIGANTINE started $5 in that race but ended the race lame. We can forgive that one.
Selections: 10. Starman (Top Tip), 7. Construct, 12. Brigantine, 11. Hoover Lucy
Race 5:
NATURE STRIP sure to step out a firm fave and it’s exciting to have him back. As well as he’s trialled, and as good as he is – and nobody is any doubt that he’s very very good – he has been vulnerable fresh in many of his preps over the last two years. Not last time around, granted; that Lightning win down the Flemington straight had a redemptive feel about it and signalled the TJ win that was to come. But defeats in this race over the last two years when favourite tell us he is not without flaw so I’m prepared to look to WILD RULER to cause a minor upset. His record at Randwick – and his overall fresh work – suggests he could pose a big threat, pending if and when the predicted rain arrives. I would turn back to NATURE pretty quickly if track genuinely Soft.
Selections: 3. Wild Ruler (Value Bet), 1. Nature Strip, 2. Trekking, 9. Adelong
Race 6:
Pace from 6, 9, 10 and 2. Highly competitive stuff from these fillies. SHE’S ALL CLASS finished at the tail of a July 27 trial. She was a bit slow out and stayed there throughout. I would expect she can find a decent trail at midfield here though and her work last prep indicates she is well up to winning a race like this. FOUR MOVES AHEAD through the Silver Shadow and that should be a key form race for this given MALLORY, SWIFT WITNESS and JAMAEA emerge from it as well.
Selections: 4. She’s All Class (Top Tip), 1. Four Moves Ahead, 7. Najmaty, 2. Swift Witness
Race 7:
Pace from 2 and 7. ZAAKI the class runner and even with expected improvement still to come if he offers a repeat of any of his runs from the autumn he can start this campaign with another win. LION’S ROAR another that will want further but he should be hitting the line hard here (and probably be something to bet on 2nd-up). ROCK and ALL SAINTS’ EVE will settle out back but may close out encouragingly. But all in all ZAAKI looks the one.
Selections: 1. Zaaki (Top Tip), 3. Lion’s Roar, 6. Rock, 10. All Saints’ Eve
Race 8:
Precious little pace in the Chelmsford. 11 and 10 most likely to lead it? CASCADIAN may not have to get as far back as we normally see him from today’s barrier. That’s not to say he’s going to be looming close-up but a pair or two closer may make the difference. THINK IT OVER is now a genuinely consistent high grade galloper and his Winx SP backs that up. Has to be a big winning hope here too. Inside draw may not be great for SHE’S IDEEL??
Selections: 2. Cascadian (Best of the Day), 1. Think It Over, 13. She’s Ideel, 14. Montefilia
Race 9:
Huge field here for a spring BM78 but not a great depth of pace engaged. Speed supplied by 9 and 17 with 20 handy. It’s a bit of a raffle frankly and I imagine at least each-way odds the field. If that’s a case I’m happy to try LANCASTER BOMBER each-way. He has placed all four at Randwick so far and he just needs a smidgen of luck from that wide gate to slow over to a reasonable spot. IRISH SONGS has been switching between capitals but I could have something on him here at 1200m.
Selections: 2. Lancaster Bomber (Top Tip), 4. Irish Songs, 5. Broken Arrows, 13. King Of Sparta
Race 10:
A handy race to finish on. Look for 19 to lead with 8 crossing over. 5 and 16 handy. No reason to think ATISHU can’t progress after a marvellous Australian debut. Doubt she would be worried about a softer track than she was on here a fortnight back. CHARMS STAR another NZ mare with Waller and you could see her closing this out really strongly if she sees a gap at the right time. CISCO BAY gets to meet her a little better at the weights.
Selections: 13. Atishu (Top Tip), 17. Cisco Bay, 9. Charms Star, 1. Entente
Race 6: 2. Swift Witness
Race 7: 2. Dreamforce
Quaddie: 1,2,6/1,2,12,14/11,12,13,17/2,4,9,11,13
