Moonee Valley
Race 1:
EQUIVOCAL (7) Lonhro 2yo having first race appearance for trainer Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young. Should give this a shake. BEMOTE (6) Michael Kent Jnr & Mick Price 2yo runner on debut by Headwater and gets a favourable draw. Definitely worth considering. IDRIS (1) Leon and Troy Corstens trained 2yo by Lonhro on debut and has minimal work to do from the barrier. Could win this. NOBEL (17) Exceed And Excel 2yo trained by Annabel Neasham having first race start. Place chance only.
Race 2:
STARRY LEGEND (10) Made every post a winner when winning by 1 1/4L last run at Mornington and second up from a spell. Shows good early pace. Goes very close. RANTING (6) Produced an eye catching run when 3rd two runs back at Morphettville but fresh from a spell. Expected to be flashing home. Goes close. DEXELATION (3) Was fighting out the finish when winning last start at Morphettville and gets some weight relief. Second up from a break. Each way prospects. EXCESS FUNDS (5) Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back at Ballarat and likely to race off the speed. Had a break from racing and returns to competition. Won’t be far away and represents an each way player.
Race 3:
ROBODIRA (1) Ran on strongly when 2nd three runs back at Randwick and going down in class. Sure to be thereabouts again. NEW YORK BABY (2) Got the cash when winning two runs back at Flemington and goes down in class. Having third run back from a spell. Warrants a bet. LARKSPUR RUN (3) Dashed home into 2nd two runs back at this venue and looks well placed in this grade. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. Winnable race. OUR HEIDI (8) Finished strongly when 2nd last start at Sandown but resuming. Likely to get a nice run behind the speed. Good chance and wouldn’t be surprised to see it pick up a win.
Race 4:
DOSH (9) Big effort to finish 2nd last start at Caulfield and having third run back from a spell. Should muster plenty of early speed. Key player. GENERATION (4) Did well when 3rd last time at this venue and let up. Expecting to settle positively. Appears as a winning threat. MORNINGTON GLORY (8) Was very impressive when winning two runs back at Bendigo and back in an easier grade. One of the main dangers. SUDOKO (6) Fought on well to win last run at Sale and second up. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. Might be one for the placings.
Race 5:
HERESY (2) Did its best work late when 2nd two runs back at Caulfield. Been in the money 3 from 4 attempts this preparation. Genuine threat. FORTUNATE KISS (3) Ran on strongly when 2nd three runs back at Sandown. Well suited and should prove hard to beat. MARACANA (7) Good win last start at Ballarat and should race just behind the speed. Looks very sharp this campaign with 2 wins from as many starts. Trainer has gone for the winkers on, take note. Definite winning chance. WHATAFOX (5) Nice effort to run into 2nd last run at Swan Hill and will try to take advantage of the barrier. Second up from a break. Market watch advised and can run into the money.
Race 6:
ELEPHANT (5) Was all too good winning two runs back at Sandown and going well this campaign. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Hard to dismiss. BUFFALO RIVER (4) Got the prize when winning last run at Caulfield and drawn beautifully. Backs up quickly today. Rates well in this race. EMBOLISM (8) Rocketed home into 3rd two runs back at Sandown but goes up in weight today. Third up today. Worth strong consideration. SECOND SLIP (6) Finished 2nd two runs back at Balaklava and should muster plenty of early toe. Racing consistently since returning from a break. Betting is the best guide and has each way claims.
Race 7:
FORGOT YOU (1) Got the upper hand late when winning two runs back around here and goes down in grade. Going well this preparation. Top chance. BLACKCOMB (14) Nice show when placing 2nd two runs back at Flemington and can find a nice position from the draw. Interesting gear change of winkers off first time. Worth entertaining from a place and exotics perspective. AKIHIRO (2) Was fighting out the finish when winning three runs back at Wyong but will be rising in distance. Finishes off strongly. Honest enough to be an each way player. VILLADEN (10) Winner two runs back at Benalla but facing a stronger class. Blinkers on could be an important change. Should be around the mark.
Race 8:
FLOATING ARTIST (12) Solid effort when winning two runs back at Sandown and shows good early pace. Very competitive this campaign. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. PONDUS (10) Tidy effort when 2nd two runs back at Curragh. Proven record second up. Could prove hard to beat. HARPO MARX (7) Really dug deep when winning three runs back at Kembla Grange. Tracking very well this preparation. Should be swooping on the field late. Can’t knock. LUNAR FLARE (13) Finished on top last time at Mornington but up against stronger competition today. Has run into the money 6 from 8 attempts this preparation. Multiples chance.
Race 9:
ZAAKI (1) Finished 3rd last start at Caulfield. Rates a winning chance. ANAMOE (9) Was fighting out the finish when winning last run at Caulfield and goes down in weight. Will give a big sight. VERRY ELLEEGANT (6) Showed promise when winning two runs back at Randwick but rising in grade. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Likely threat. GOLD TRIP (3) Ran well when 3rd last start at Saint Cloud but first up after a break. Should just about get the run of the race. Worth keeping safe.
Race 10:
ANNAVISTO (4) Showed a good turn of foot when 2nd three runs back at Caulfield and looks well graded. Displays good tactical speed. Expected to fight out the finish. ONLY WORDS (7) Strong effort when 4th last run at Caulfield and gets some weight relief. Winning chance in this line up. STARELLE (6) Kept chasing when 5th last start at Caulfield and third up. Always seems to find the line well. Among better hopes. GRACE AND HARMONY (9) Made up ground when 4th last time at Randwick and third up from a break. Shows good closing speed. Looks to be the value.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 1:
RED RAPID beat EQUIVOCAL in jumpout 4/10. Both went well. Red Rapid then beat TATTENHAM 11/10 and looked to go better. Equivocal won a heat that day, ridden along and running ~5L quicker than Red Rapid heat. BEMOTE led and was ridden last 100m breaking away from YAKUTSK, who wasn’t knocked about. Yakutsk showed good speed on debut. THE WIZARD KING faded on debut but may have choked down? Was backed. IDRIS went well in his heat. PRARIE FLOWER was given a quiet time. LADY HARLEM hit line in a Sydney trial. NOBEL solid in Sydney then won Flemington jumpout well. SEMILLION jumped out well in, time?
Selections: 1. Idris (Top Tip), 7. Equivocal, 11. Red Rapid, 6. Bemote
Race 2:
SPEED: 10 looks leader from 11 then 1? Here we go with key dual acceptors, they are 10 & 7 here. EXCESS FUNDS and RANTING jumped out well together 8/10 in slick time. Excess Funds has won twice fresh. Ranting was far from disgraced in an Oakleigh Plate fresh last year. FREE OF DEBT beat Kemalpasa before an honest effort last week behind two slick sprinters. DEXELATION was terrific fresh but stays at 1000m? MOSSMAN GORGE is a bit underrated and has a great second-up record. STARRY LEGEND is unbeaten at 1000m. LUNAR HERO comes off a neat win.
Selections: 6. Ranting (Top Tip), 5. Excess Funds, 10. Starry Legend, 2. Free Of Debt
Race 3:
Not sure speed here. NEW YORK BABY beat NICCOLITE comfortably fresh at Flemington with 61kg then beat home LARKSPUR RUN, ROBODIRA (no luck at a key stage) and STAR WALTZ (no luck at all) but it was a very messy race. Niccolite then went to Mornington and produced an outstanding finale (clear fastest last 200m of day) to win her maiden. BALLYNORA ran on well behind Philonize (won again last week) in slick time latest. DREAM QUEEN was backed heavily fresh but had plenty against her, forgive! OUR HEIDI went very well on debut from the back, she was on pace and won a recent jumpout nicely.
Selections: 2. New York Baby (Top Tip), 5. Niccolite, 1. Robodira, 8. Our Heidi
Race 4:
SPEED: 9 may lead 7, 4 with 2 coming over? HE’S XCEPTIONAL cost himself the win here for mine last time, losing the plot mid-race when pace slackened. Go back to August and he beat ATHELRIC here, that 3YO then beat GENERATION but Generation was wide on a strong speed that day and ran very well. MORNINGTON GLORY had his chance in G2 Danehill but he was not far away and it was start two, second horse General Beau ties the form in. Filly DOSH gave a huge sight in Schillaci when pipped by a horse who’s beaten Gytrash in a G1 Goodwood, 1200m?
Selections: 4. Generation (Top Tip), 8. Mornington Glory, 9. Dosh, 1. He’s Xceptional
Race 5:
SPEED: 9 may lead? 4, 1, 2, 6, 5, 8 can all be handy? HERESY looked to be bolting in G1 1000 Guineas before copping nasty check and being eased out of it. FORTUNATE KISS lost all her momentum that same race before picking up and hitting the line nicely. Fortunate Kiss crossed line with VIANELLO prior despite racing in inferior ground (inside). The way Vianello chased down STERN IMPULSE last week there is no reason to suggest 1600m will be an issue. MARACANA easily beat Stern Impulse at Ballarat, so that ties in nicely! BRING ME FLOWERS was lame when beaten by Maracana. That ties in NATIVE GIRL.
Selections: 3. Fortunate Kiss (Top Tip), 2. Heresy, 7. Maracana, 1. Vianello
Race 6:
SPEED: 4 leads. 2, 6, 10 take trails with 5. EMBOLISM was only second up in G1 Toorak and ran well, he did go by ELEPHANT there but safe to say Elephant had a less peaceful run and the WFA scale suits him better. SECOND SLIP led that Toorak field, setting a strong speed against the pattern of the day, he can improve. ROMANCER was wide when chasing Elephant gamely last time. BUFFALO RIVER ran time from the front last week, any rain and/or leader bias would really help him! RHINOCEROS won with a big weight latest. BEST OF DAYS is still capable.
Selections: 5. Elephant (Top Tip), 8. Embolism, 4. Buffalo River, 3. Romancer
Race 7:
SPEED: 7 may lead 4. 5, 11, 13 handy. FORGOT YOU ran home in faster last 200m than Anamoe in a G1 Caulfield Guineas and has looked a 2040m horse for quite a while now. AKIHIRO hit the line in a Stan Fox latest, his last 200m was quicker than that of Coastwatch, which easily ties in that Guineas form. JUNGLE MAGNATE ran well in the Hill Smith Stakes. BLACKCOMB was odds-on fave there, but luckless, Blinkers go on. That form ties in CAPITAL LEGEND and CHEERFUL MOMENT, who look suited at 2040m.
Selections: 1. Forgot You (Best of the Day), 2. Akihiro, 14. Blackcomb, 15. Capital Legend
Race 8:
SPEED: 9 can lead 10,2,12 with 3 handy. PONDUS set a strong speed 1st-up Flemington and battled well. FLOATING ARTIST was beaten at long odds-on in Coongy but fancy was ridden a bit ”cute”, plus, he looked in need of ground, gets that here! HARPO MARX ran very well in Metrop and that race threw last week’s St Leger trifecta in Sydney and winner Montefilia just ran well in a Caulfield Cup. Gave ATTORNEY a hope that race but he was too bad to be true? STARCASTER goes in for sure. LE DON DE VIE was forgive run latest. MIAMI BOUND won this last year.
Selections: 10. Pondus (Top Tip), 12. Floating Artist, 7. Harpo Marx, 9. Starcaster
Race 9:
SPEED: 1, 2 may lead 4, 10 with 5, 7 & 8 handy. ZAAKI was beaten in the Caulfield Stakes but hardly poor, suspect getting away from a Caulfield good-3 to The Valley 4th-up he can hit back. His last 4th-up run was his outstanding Doomben Cup win by 7L with J-Mac up. Stablemate MO’UNGA looks the wrong price ($17 as I type). Strongest last 200m of Makybe Diva chasing Incentivise (and beat last year’s Cox Plate winner) then wide with 57kg in an Epsom. Yes 2040m! 3YO ANAMOE is right in the game. STATE OF REST (neat win latest) and VERRY ELLEEGANT (colder ride/any rain?) winning hopes. CAPTIVANT best roughie?
Selections: 1. Zaaki (Top Tip), 5. Mo’unga, 9. Anamoe, 8. State Of Rest
Race 10:
SPEED: 4, 5 with 7, 10, 11 14? ONLY WORDS and STARELLE closed off well Caulfield with their 59kg. Starelle was only second up there. They went by ECUMENICAL who was safely held by ANNAVISTO from Rose of Kingston at Flemington. First go 1600m here for Annavisto. MORE PROPHETS should have won the Angst at Randwick for mine. GRACE AND HARMONY was good that same race and she was only second up. GOOD AND PROPER had excuses behind Annavisto second up then shuffled back latest before running day’s fastest last 200m! IL AFFARE also ran home hard that same race, first up. FLYING MASCOT form ties in.
Selections: 12. Good And Proper (Value Bet), 7. Only Words, 6. Starelle, 3. More Prophets
Race 9: VERRY ELLEEGANT (5.50) (Win)

Unibet – From the Traders’ Desk:
Race 9 # Anamoe (4.20)
Race 1:
Most have shown some talent at the jump outs but none have looked better than EQUIVOCAL (7) who breezed nicely through her Cranbourne heat and could be fairly smart based on what we saw there. She goes on top but of course it is very tricky to sort out. BEMOTE (6) was a good jump out winner and the stable have already been among the two-year-old winners. RED RAPID (11) is a stablemate to the top pick who has also jumped out well. NOBEL (17) looks talented and IDRIS (1) has been solid. Top jock booked and the inside draw both potential positives.
Selections: 7. Equivocal (Tip tip), 6. Bemote, 11. Red Rapid, 17. Nobel
Race 2:
Looks a terrific option for DEXELATION (3) who was a strong winner first up from a break. Beat All Banter and beat her well there. That is a good point of reference. Was third behind Kemelpasa second up last prep, another bit of form that reads well for this, and all things considered he looks a mighty hard horse to stop. RANTING (6) has the talent. Taken on better races for the most part but given his chance to come back a peg for this and no shock to see him run really well fresh. EXCESS FUNDS (5) also resumes with ratings that measure right up. Much easier for FREE OF DEBT (2) this week and he can run well. As can STARRY LEGEND (10) who resumed with a good win and has bundles of upside.
Selections: 3. Dexelation (Tip tip), 6. Ranting, 5. Excess Funds, 2. Free Of Debt
Race 3:
Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield looks the key form reference. ROBODIRA (1) looked to have plenty to offer there but she was left with nowhere to go at a key stage. Finished right there with them but without having raced in a lot of room. She can improve with more luck and there is less depth to this. NEW YORK BABY (2) ran really well to finish second there and have to think that she represents a terrific winning chance once again. LARKSPUR RUN (3) was only fair there but she gets back to the Valley where she was terrific in two runs prior and the blinkers go back on to sharpen her right up. OUR HEIDI (8) can be next best.
Selections: 1. Robodira (Tip tip), 2. New York Baby, 3. Larkspur Run, 8. Our Heidi
Race 4:
GENERATION (4) has been freshened up for this after running well in two runs at the start of the spring but probably clocking in slightly below expectations. Set the right sort of target are and think the smart yard can click him into the sort of gear that his fast Caulfield win last season promised he could find. DOSH (9) looks sure to take some catching. Gave a huge sight in the Schillaci at Caulfield and a repeat of that form here will go mighty close. Plenty of nice horses away from that pair in a race that doesn’t have a long tail. MORNINGTON GLORY (8) came up short in the Danehill but the Bendigo win said he was a real talent. Similarly, SCISSOR STEP (2) was no match in the Sapphire but he did enough to think that the high-rating win prior was no fluke. SUDOKO (6) beat a small field last time but did it well enough to consider him a hope here.
Selections: 4. Generation (Tip tip), 9. Dosh, 8. Mornington Glory, 2. Scissor Step
Race 5:
The Thousand Guineas was very messy and from the inside draw HERESY (2) copped plenty of backwash. Ran right into trouble at the 400m and again at the 300m there. Very easy to put the pen through that run and take her for the good form she was showing prior. Much softer assignment this time and she should pose a genuine threat. Through the same race FORTUNATE KISS (3) was also crowded up at the wrong time. Terrific effort to stick on into fifth there and she must have a great hope off that. Wide draw and how far back she gets is the issue she has to overcome. VIANELLO (1) backs up off a win last week. Couple of better opponents this week but she should run well again. MARACANA (7) is also up sharply in grade but looks capable of measuring up. Unbeaten and shown good talent to this point.
Selections: 2. Heresy (Top tip), 3. Fortunate Kiss, 1. Vianello, 7. Maracana
Race 6:
EMBOLISM (8) looks ready to win now and this can set up ideally for him. Ran really well fresh in a hot form race before sticking on gamely in the high-pressure Toorak last time. Now at weight-for-age but he doesn’t lack for talent and he gets a nice pace to run at. Think he can again beat ELEPHANT (5) who was behind him in the Toorak. Gets back to the Valley where his Feehan run stands out as a strong piece of form for this. BUFFALO RIVER (4) backs up quickly from last week. Keeping busy but he’s in great form and any rain around would help his cause. BEST OF DAYS (1) was second here two years ago. Just okay in his latest couple of runs but he can certainly run well in the right race this time.
Selections 8. Embolism (Top tip), 5. Elephant, 4. Buffalo River, 1. Best Of Days
Race 7:
Would think that only bad luck or a bad day would stop FORGOT YOU (1) who stands right out on the strength of his recent form. Won the Stutt around here, which looked a deeper race than this on paper, and then stood up well in the Guineas last time. That was a fast and high-rating race and would think that he only needs to be close to that sort of level to be taking care of these. Improvers away from him can be headed by VILLADEN (10) who was strong through the line on debut and then stood up well in a good handicap last time. He can go on improving and gets the blinkers this time. AKIHIRO (2) comes down from Sydney. Shown glimpses of talent up there and think the longer trip can suit him now. PATTON (5) also comes south. He was okay in the Gloaming and the Spring Champion and this looks much weaker than those two races.
Selections: 1. Forgot You (Top tip), 10. Villaden, 2. Akihiro, 5. Patton
Race 8:
HARPO MARX (7) has had a fantastic campaign, winning through the winter months and then taking it to the spring. Won the Premier’s Cup, left far too much to do at Newcastle, then ran a good third in the Metropolitan last time. That reads well for this. PONDUS (10) was placed in the Bendigo Cup and Queen Elizabeth last spring and he looks ready to return to that sort of form now. Solid in Ireland this year and his return to Australia was promising in the Bart Cumming where he was well in the betting. FLOATING ARTIST (12) was outdashed in the Coongy. Should get a more genuine tempo this time and he is likely to stay the longer trip. Big step up for LUNAR FLARE (13) but she has been in great form and is worth a crack at it.
Selections: 7. Harpo Marx (Top tip), 10. Pondus, 12. Floating Artist, 13. Lunar Flare
Race 9:
VERRY ELLEEGANT (6) was below her best in the Turnbull, and will need to bounce back, but that she has been out of the first four just once in two years – when seventh and staying on well in a Melbourne Cup – speaks to how reliable she is. She should be right back around her best for this and that makes her a terrific chance. Big interest in the Caulfield Guineas winner ANAMOE (9) who was terrific there and looks capable of mixing it at this level. He and the French import GOLD TRIP (3) look like the two that will be back and powering into the finish late. Gold Trip was good enough to run fourth in the Arc last year and has shaped as well as any in Group Ones at his latest couple. ZAAKI (1) won the Doomben Cup like a Cox Plate winner in waiting. Below that form last time but he is better than that and this does look like setting up well for him.
Selections: 6. Verry Elleegant (Top tip), 9. Anamoe, 3. Gold Trip, 1. Zaaki
Race 10:
Better draw looks difference maker for STARELLE (6). Ran terrific late splits when resuming, giving the impression that she has come back better than ever, and then good again at Caulfield but just left with too much to do in a race that was won up on speed. She can be closer here and the pace looks assured. Hard to beat. That pace can come from ANNAVISTO (4) who won two back and was solid again last time. Has to stretch to the mile now but bred to cope and she may even improve for it. ONLY WORDS (7) probably should have won the Stocks here then solid at Caulfield last time, a place ahead of Starelle. She has to be considered along with MORE PROPHETS (3) who was second in very similar company in Sydney last time and GRACE AND HARMONY (9) who was fourth in the same race and looks ready to peak now third up.
Selections: 6. Starelle (Top tip), 4. Annavisto, 7. Only Words, 3. More Prophets
Race 8: 10. Pondus
Race 9: 1. Zaaki
Race 10: 13. Il Affare
Quaddie: 1,2,6,14/7,10,12/1/3,4,5,6,9,13
Randwick
Race 9: Nudge (13.00, 4.00) (each way)
Race 9:
ENTRIVIERE (6) Won two runs back at Kembla Grange. Having third run back from a break. Should be in the finish. ICEBATH (10) Sent around at $10 and finished over 3L behind the winner at this course last run on a good surface and carrying more weight than last time. Shows good finishing speed. Knockout chance in this. VANGELIC (7) Looked outclassed when 12th last run at this course and rising in weight. Should race on the speed. Each way. STARTANTES (12) Finished on top three runs back at Doomben and very competitive this preparation. Displays very good closing speed. Strong each way hope.
Race 9: Entriviere
Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:
Race 9:
A $2M party for these girls, with STARTANTES the only filly to open the invitation. Speed is here from 7 and 9 and that’s about the end of it. SWEET DEAL the only other that may press from out wide. ENTRIVIER’s only defeats have been when drawing widest and settling too far back. You would have loved to see a friendlier draw here then but gate 9 of 12 (after presumed scratchings of emergencies) will have to do. She does meet VANGELIC 2 kilos better off from last start and I would like to totally forgive and forget VANGELIC’s subsequent run. This could be one start too many for STARTANTES but in saying that I’d run her too if I had the choice. MADAM ROUGE has won just 1 from her latest 16 but could bob up anytime.
Selections: 6. Entriviere (Top Tip), 7. Vangelic, 12. Startantes, 1. Madam Rouge
Race 9:
ENTRIVIERE (6) won well first up before the wide draw beat her last start. Still was beaten less than a length and should be right at her peak third up. Since trialled well and while likely to get back from the draw her class should carry her a long way. ICEBATH (10) didn’t have a lot of luck in the Epsom last start and looks very well placed at the weights on best form. Just how far back she gets from the draw is the query. VANGELIC (7) should lead and give a good kick while STARTANTES (12) sets up well dropping back to 1400m.
Selections: 6. Entriviere (Top tip), 10. Icebath, 7. Vangelic, 12. Startantes
Race 9: ENTRIVIERE (3.00), saving on Nudge (13.00)
Quaddie: 1,2,3,4/1,2/2,4,6,7,10/2,6,9,10,11
