At the time of writing the biggest Draftstars contest for this round is a $75,000 competition for Melbourne v Collingwood on Friday night. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.
Hawthorn vs. Gold Coast |
Hawthorn have won three of their last four and they have won 9 out of the last 10 as the home team against the Suns. Gold Coast have lost four of their last six fixtures and they are on a four game losing streak away from home. The Suns have a 0-4 record at UTAS Stadium over the last decade. I would back Hawthorn in the head-to-head at 2.00 (bet365).
GWS vs. Essendon |
GWS have lost six of their last seven fixtures, including the last four. The Giants have gone 1-4 as the home underdog over the last twelve months. Essendon have won four of their last five games. Their sole defeat during that stretch was by 4 points to the high-flying Collingwood. Bookmakers have a good track record of predicting this fixture. GWS have gone 4-1 when installed as the home favourite against Essendon and 0-3 when installed as the home underdog. I would back Essendon in the head-to-head at 1.78 (Unibet).
Western Bulldogs vs. Fremantle |
This is another fixture that bookmakers have a good track record of predicting. Over the last decade the Western Bulldogs have gone 5-0 as the home favourite against Fremantle and 0-3 as the home underdog. The Western Bulldogs have won their last three home games while Fremantle are winless in their last three fixtures. The Dogs covered the line in their last four home fixtures against the Dockers and they have gone 7-2 both in the head-to-head and the line at Marvel Stadium this year. I would back the Western Bulldogs in the head-to-head at 1.50 (bet365, Unibet).
Brisbane vs. Carlton |
Brisbane suffered an away defeat to Richmond last week but the Lions have gone 7-1 on the back of a defeat over the last twelve months. The Lions have gone 10-2 at home over the last twelve months and they have won six consecutive home games against Carlton. Brisbane have also gone 6-1 at the line against Carlton in their last seven meetings as the host. Carlton lost away by 29 points against Adelaide last week, which isn’t ideal form going into the Gabba. They’re also playing their second consecutive interstate game, which is tough. I would back Brisbane in the head-to-head at 1.43 (Unibet). Carlton have only suffered one 40+ defeat over the last twelve months and six of their previous eight away defeats to Brisbane were by 1-39. Those looking for more risk should consider Brisbane 1-39 at 2.10 (PlayUp).
