Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United7:45pm AEDT, CommBank Stadium |
All eyes will be on Marcelo headed into the ‘Red & Blacks’ clash against the ‘Reds’, with the Wanderers co-captain having recently inked a new deal that will see him stay with the club until at least the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign. The hard hitting Defender and 2X Super Lig winner has played a crucial part in Western Sydney’s surge up the standings this season, as they reside in 3rd-spot on the ladder. The 35-year-old Brazilian has won 84/125 duels (67% accuracy), he’s also won 7/16 tackles (44% accuracy) and has triumphed in 2/2 take ons (100% accuracy), as the fearless leader has never faltered in putting his body on the line for his willing team mates. And the last time these two teams locked horns there was eight goals fashioned on the day (4-4 draw), so if that is anything to go by then more now then ever he will be needed to stop a potential onslaught of strikes headed his way.
Last time they met: A 4-4 draw @ Hindmarsh Stadium.
Betting tips: Back over 2.5 goals to be produced at $1.61 (Bet365)
Also back there to be 9+ collective corners at $1.36 (Bet365)

Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory1:00pm AEDT, Sky Stadium |
Throughout various points of this campaign Wellington have rightfully been viewed as legitimate title contenders and potentially the team to knock Melbourne City right off their perch. However now things are as shaky as they’ve ever been, with Ufuk Talay’s side having proved triumphant in just three of their last eight affairs. The latest of which was a 5-1 battering at the hands of Adelaide! A clash which saw them muster up just one consolation penalty goal and a clash in which they also rarely failed to challenge the hosts, that despite them peppering away 19 shots on the day (six going on target). Perhaps luckily for Wellington however is that Melbourne have been throwing up stinkers all season, having lost 11 of 20 games this season and being dead last on the ladder. With crafty Midfielder Bozhidar Kraev looming about with seven strikes + two assists this season, this appears to be the perfect game for him to make an impact in, against a severely subdued Victory defence. He can play not only himself, but his team right back into form at home if they are good enough and if they are strong enough.
Last time they met: A 3-1 win to Melbourne @ AAMI Park.
Betting tips: Look for a tight Wellington dub at $2.37 (BlueBet)
Also look for them to open the scoring at $1.80 (Bet365)
Central Coast Mariners v Brisbane Roar5:00pm AEDT, Industree Group Stadium |
During the Central Coast’s latest outing against the Victory they were caught out red handed as a piss poor effort saw them go down heavily 2-0 at AAMI Park. They lost the match despite owning 73% possession of the ball and having taken 15 shots, which they landed zero on target. Meanwhile Melbourne proved extremely lethal despite being forced to defend for most of the encounter. Of particular note for Nick Montgomery’s Men was Socceroos Striker Jason Cummings attempting just two shots. Meanwhile Brazilian partner in crime Marco Tulio had just one. That simply won’t cut it against any team and the two Attackers need to do a hell of a lot better than that this time around versus Brisbane. To Cummings credit this season in all competitions he has registered 15 goals alongside three assists. Meanwhile for ex-Campeonato Alagoano victor Tulio he has produced five goals in addition to two assists. So given how good … largely, their form has been this campaign, look for those two Men in particular to hone in with better performances against the Roar. Because playing against a side that’s conceded 16 goals on the road this season from just 10 matches played, they certainly should be.
Last time they met: A 2-1 win to the Central Coast @ Dolphin Stadium.
Betting tips: Back a Mariners win at $1.84 (BoomBet)
And also back Jason Cummings to score anytime at $1.86 (BoomBet)
Sydney FC v Western United7:45pm AEDT, Allianz Stadium |
With Rhyan Grant preparing to make his 300th competitive appearance for Sydney FC in a must win clash, all the pressure will be on the 21x capped Socceroo’s Defender. Across his time with the club the Canowindra-born and proud 32-year-old has won a grand haul of eight trophies, including three Grand Finals, one of which he scored a memorable extra-time winner in against Melbourne City. However perhaps more importantly than that he has always been viewed as a leader amongst his teammates and a player who is incredibly, incredibly selfless. And against Western United we should expect nothing less from him as despite having tiring legs from a tiring campaign, he’s still always running back into position and going into every tackle with 110% effort. It would be nothing less then a fitting tribute for the ‘Sky Blues’ to deliver him with nothing less then a well-deserved win. However with promising opposition Striker Noah Botic in fine form having scored five goals in his last six games, Grant will certainly have to help earn all three-points for his side.
Last time they met: A 1-0 win to Western United @ North Hobart Oval.
Betting tip: Look for both sides to score 1+ goal at $1.66 (Bet365)
Perth Glory v Macarthur FC10:00pm AEDT, Macedonia Park |
When these two teams last met, a 1-0 win to the ‘Bulls’ out West ensued in what was an incredibly scrappy game. That day just four of 15 shots landed on target, as both sides by and large struggled massively with their respective finishing touches. And with said clash featuring the likes of Ulises Davila & Daniel Arzani and the two Williams’s, David & Ryan, that was severely disappointing. And with the huge blow of ex-wonder kid Arzani now officially being out for the rest of the season, Macarthur will struggle greatly to replace him, as Davila is still out as well. Arguably their best two players and their two most influential Midfielders are gonza and as a result Perth should tear through the middle of the ‘Bulls’ like they are shreds of paper. Ruben Zadkovich will have no doubt rammed this particular point home to all of the Glory lads this week, so that they can take advantage of a severely weakened opposition side. In the process they could potentially (contingent upon other results) move to within just one point of a finals spot! So there is plenty on the line for them right here.
Last time they met: A 1-0 win to Macarthur @ Campbelltown Stadium.
Betting tip: Look for there to be 2+ collective goals at $1.22 (Bet365)

Melbourne City v Newcastle Jets3:00pm AEST, AAMI Park |
Despite scoring a massive 18 goals in 21 A-League games so far this season, Jamie Maclaren has surprisingly taken a bit of a hit in form lately. As the former Hibernian Striker has scored just twice over the course of his last six games and both of those goals were in the same game, a 3-2 win against Sydney over a month ago. And not much of a surprise is that City’s form has also taken a blow in the process, with their once seemingly unassailable lead at the top of the table now down to just four-points (41 vs 37). It’s no secret that when Socceroo World Cup representative Maclaren is doing well then so is Melbourne. Their marquee Man needs to find his feet once again against the flailing Jets so that his side can start to fire before the finals begin. With Newcastle having won just three from 10 on the road this season, this clash should present him with the perfect opportunity to do exactly that. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but one strike from him should be enough for him to feel good about himself as a player once again and help his side collect a sorely needed dub in the process.
Last time they met: A 2-1 win to City @ McDonald Jones Stadium.
Betting tips: Pick a Melbourne win at $1.36 (BlueBet)
Also pick there to be over 2.5 strikes produced at $1.44 (Bet365)
