To take advantage of the odds before they possibly shorten, these previews are published before the team sheets are announced. Those who are more risk-averse should wait for the squad lists before wagering.
Waratahs vs. Highlanders |
The Waratahs have gone 4-1 as the home favourite over the last twelve months and they have won three consecutive home games against the Highlanders. The Highlanders have been incredibly predictable for bookmakers over the last twelve months. They have gone 6-1 as the favourite and 0-7 as the underdog. The Waratahs will be full of confidence following their upset win over the Crusaders last week.
I would back the Waratahs in the head-to-head at 1.65 (Dabble, PlayUp).
Keep an eye on the total market. I can’t recommend a bet before the figure is released, but over the last twelve months, five out of the Waratahs’ six home games went under the total and the same can be said for five out of the Highlanders’ six away games.
Brumbies vs. Force |
The Brumbies suffered a humbling defeat to the Chiefs last week, but the Canberra side boast a 4-1 record on the back of a loss. They have won ten straight games against the Force and the Perth side has gone 0-8 away from home over the last twelve months. The Force failed to cover the line in their last five away games and six of their eight defeats over the last twelve months were by 13+ margins. The Force have the worst defensive record in the league so far this season, with their two opponents scoring 44 and 48 points. The Brumbies have gone 9-1 as the favourite over the last twelve months and 6-0 as the home favourite.
The -18.5 line is too much for me to consider, so I simply recommend the Brumbies in the head-to-head at 1.09 (bet365, PlayUp,). Those looking for more risk should consider the Brumbies 13+ at 1.53 (bet365).
Hurricanes vs. Blues |
The Hurricanes maintained an undefeated start to the season, but it took extra time for them to see off the Reds last week. The Hurricanes have gone 1-4 as the underdog over the last twelve months, while the Blues have gone 12-1 as the favourite and 5-0 as the away favourite. The Blues won both fixtures against the Hurricanes last season.
I would back the Blues in the head-to-head at 1.60 (bet365).
Reds vs. Chiefs |
The Reds have gone 1-7 as the underdog over the last twelve months and 0-3, both in the head-to-head and the line, as the home underdog. The Chiefs have gone 5-0 in the head-to-head and 4-1 at the line as the away favourite over the last twelve months and they have won five of their last seven visits to Suncorp Stadium. There will be an element of revenge in this game. The Chiefs’ only regular season defeat last season was at home to the Reds.
The Reds have covered the line in each of their last five home games against the Chiefs, so I will avoid the -13.5 line market and instead back the Chiefs in the head-to-head at 1.18 (bet365).
