At the time of writing the biggest Draftstars contest for this round is the $50,000 competition for the Friday night clash between Brisbane and Melbourne. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.

Brisbane

Brisbane vs. Melbourne

Melbourne

Brisbane have gone 3-0 since their bye week and they enter this clash on the back of a statement 79-point away win over Port Adelaide. After a rocky start at the Gabba, the Lions have won three on the trot at home. Since the beginning of last season, Brisbane have gone 16-3 at their home venue. Melbourne bring 2-4 form into this clash and their most recent win was by just a 3-point margin over the unfancied North Melbourne. The Demons have failed to cover the line in their last three games and they aren’t helped by the continued absence of Christian Petracca. Melbourne’s last three scores coming into this game were 49, 51 and 70. Brisbane, in contrast, scored 114, 126 and 152. Over the last twelve months, all six of Melbourne’s away defeats were by 1-39 points and Brisbane have only managed a 5-9 line record over the last twelve months. I would back Brisbane in the head-to-head at 1.21 (Betfair). Those looking for more risk should consider Brisbane 1-39 at 2.25 (Dabble).

Sydney

Sydney vs. Fremantle

Fremantle

Sydney have won ten consecutive games and they have covered the line in their last nine fixtures. The Swans have also won and covered the line in their last six home games. Sydney beat Fremantle by a 48-point margin at Optus Stadium earlier this season. Fremantle have gone 2-7 at the line as the underdog against Sydney over the last decade. The Dockers will likely be without captain Alex Pearce after he suffered a left forearm injury last week. I would back Sydney in the head-to-head at 1.25 (Betfair). Over the last twelve months, four of Fremantle’s five away defeats were by 25+ points, so those looking for more risk should consider Sydney 25+ at 1.84 (Unibet).

Adelaide

Adelaide vs. GWS

GWS

You can make a case against either side. Adelaide have lost three in a row and they have only one win from their last six. GWS, meanwhile, have lost five of their last seven. This pick is based on winning and losing margin trends for each team. Adelaide have only lost one home game by 25+ over the last twelve months, while eight out of the Giants’ nine defeats over the same period were by 1-39 margins. I would back both Adelaide 1-39 at 2.50 (Unibet) and GWS 1-24 at 3.40 (Dabble). Those looking for more risk should simply take the GWS 1-24 selection.

Richmond

Richmond vs. Carlton

Carlton

Richmond have lost nine of their last ten games and seven of their last eight defeats were by 25+ margins. Their cause isn’t helped by a new hamstring injury for Tom Lynch. Carlton have won and covered the line in their last four fixtures. The Blues boast an imposing 6-0 head-to-head and 5-1 line record as the away favourite over the last twelve months. I would back Carlton 25+ at 1.40 (Dabble).

West Coast

West Coast vs. Hawthorn

Hawthorn

West Coast have lost seven of their last eight games, while Hawthorn have won six of their last seven. Hawthorn have covered the line in their last seven games, which includes their last four away games. The Hawks have gone 3-0 in both the head-to-head and the line as the away favourite over the last twelve months. I would back Hawthorn in the head-to-head at 1.55 (Betfair).
