At the time of writing the biggest Draftstars contest for this round is the $50,000 competition for the Sydney v Collingwood clash on Friday night. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.

Fremantle

Fremantle vs. Geelong

Geelong

Fremantle brings 5-2 form into this clash. The Dockers have gone 5-1-0 in the head-to-head and 4-2 at the line as the home favourite over the last twelve months. The Geelong Cats bring 5-1 form into this clash, however their last six wins were all against sides outside the top 8. The Cats have lost five in a row against sides currently in the top 8. I don’t expect a blowout on Saturday. Five of Fremantle’s seven home wins over the last twelve months were by 1-39 margins and over the last decade they have not beaten Geelong by 40+ in Perth. I would back Fremantle in the head-to-head at 1.53 (Bet Right, PlayUp). Those looking for more risk should consider Fremantle 1-39 at 2.08 (Dabble).

Essendon

Essendon vs. Gold Coast

Gold Coast

This is simply a bet against the away form of Gold Coast. The Suns have gone 0-9 away from home this season. Extending into last year, they have lost 11 consecutive games and they failed to cover the line in 10 of those defeats. The Bombers have gone 3-1 as the home favourite over the last twelve months and they boast a 6-0 home record against the Suns. I would back Essendon in the head-to-head at 1.56 (Betfair).

Adelaide

Adelaide vs. Western Bulldogs

Western Bulldogs

The Western Bulldogs boast the league-best 7-3 away record this season. They now take on the Adelaide Crows, who have the 15th ranked 4-1-6 home record. The Bulldogs have won four consecutive games and three of those wins came against top-8 sides. The most impressive aspect of their latest wins has been their defence. The Bulldogs’ last three opponents were limited to 48, 48 and 59 points. I would back the Western Bulldogs in the head-to-head at 1.47 (Betfair). Adelaide’s 11 games at Adelaide Oval this season averaged 158.0 total points and given how mean the Bulldogs’ defence is at the moment, Under 180.5 at 1.50 (bet365) also appeals. The Bulldogs’ last four away games all went under the total and their average total away from home this season is 156.8.
