Southampton

Southampton vs. Man Utd

Man Utd

Man Utd in the head-to-head at 1.83 (Betfair)

Southampton have made a 0-0-3 start to their Premier League campaign. The only goal they scored this season came four minutes into stoppage time last week, when they were already down 3-0. Manchester United were thrashed last week by Liverpool, but they have fared better against weaker opponents. United have gone 6-1-1 as the away favourite over the last twelve months.

Man City

Man City vs. Brentford

Brentford

Man City in the head-to-head at 1.18 (bet365)

Spanning this season and the last, Man City have won twelve consecutive games and every win was by a 2+ goal margin. Erling Haaland has scored back-to-back hat-tricks in the previous two rounds. Brentford have a loss-heavy 3-2-10 record as the away underdog over the last twelve months.

Liverpool

Liverpool vs. Nottm Forest

Nottm Forest

Liverpool in the head-to-head at 1.22 (bet365)
Liverpool -1.5 at 1.65 (Betfair)

Liverpool made made an excellent start to the season under new manager Arne Slot. They have scored a combined seven goals to nil this season. Nottingham Forest have made a solid start to their campaign, but they have had a soft schedule until now. Forest have a defeat-heavy 2-3-9 record as the away underdog over the last twelve months. Six of those nine defeats were by 2+ goal margins. Over the same period, 14 of Liverpool’s 16 home wins were by 2+ goals and all three wins this season were by 2+ goals. Liverpool completed the double over Nottingham Forest last season and they won this fixture 3-0.

Brighton

Brighton vs. Ipswich

Ipswich

Brighton +0.5 at 1.12 (Betfair)

It might look like a cop out to take Brighton +0.5 rather than in the head-to-head, but Brighton have a draw-heavy 9-9-1 record as the favourite over the last twelve months (7-5-0 as the home favourite). Ipswich had a tough schedule to commence the season. This resulted in defeats to Liverpool and Man City, but they will take heart from their draw against Fulham last week. Brighton should be too strong, but their aforementioned record as the favourite has seen me wimp out of the head-to-head market.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa vs. Everton

Everton

Aston Villa in the head-to-head at 1.48 (betr)

Aston Villa won their last three home games against Everton. Looking back further, over the last decade they boast a 5-1-0 record as the home favourite against the Toffees. Everton played well for 87 minutes before blowing a two-goal lead to inexplicably lose 2-3 at home to Bournemouth last week. It feels like if they concede one goal they fear for the worst, which leads to the worst. Everton have now conceded 3+ goals in all three of their defeats to start the season. They have a goal difference of -8 after just three games.

Tottenham

Tottenham vs. Arsenal

Arsenal

Over 2.5 goals at 1.57 (bet365)

With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, Tottenham are not going to die wondering, so I expect we’ll see goals in this clash. Nine total goals were scored in the two North London derbies last season (4 & 5). Over the last twelve months, 17 of Tottenham’s 19 home games went over 2.5 goals.
