Perth Glory

Perth Glory vs Western Sydney Wanderers

Tuesday January 14, 9:45pm
HBF Park

Western Sydney Wanderers

It might’ve been just the second win of the Glory’s season to date, but what a fantastic victory it was as they caused a massive ripple through the league in what was a 1-0 scoreline versus the ‘Black Knights’ at HBF Park. The hosts started like a house on fire and were incredibly unlucky to see Jarrod Carluccio’s 8th minute strike ruled out for offside. However 21-minutes later Perth struck thunder when Carluccio assisted 18-year-old Midfielder Jaylan Pearman from just outside the box as he rifled the ball into the back of the net. And the Glory perhaps could’ve gone two to the good had Adama Coulibaly not pulled down Joel Anasmo late on in the game, as Coulibaly received his marching orders. Winning the game with also just 35% possession of the ball, it was indeed a very impressive performance from David Zdrilic’s side.

Meanwhile for Western Sydney they’ve lost just one of their last six games and are also undefeated in four of their last five games away from home. The latest of which was an incredibly entertaining 2-2 draw against the Victory at AAMI Park. Aydan Hammond opened the visitors account on the stroke of halftime, with what was his ninth goal in ‘Red & Black’ colours. Whilst Nicolas Milanovic secured his sixth strike of the season in the 76th minute, as he is currently equal 3rd on the A-League’s goal scoring charts this campaign. Whilst the last time they faced Perth was also an away matchup in front of just under 6000 spectators. On this occasion the Wanderers came away with an incredibly testy 2-1 win thanks to Lachlan Brooks goal in the 83rd minute. As the now MLS Striker collected the rebound and fired home from close range. Whilst prior to that it was in fact the Glory who secured a 2-1 win, as 179-game A-League veteran David Williams forged an 87th minute winner at CommBank Stadium. It’s definitely fair to say that these two teams can hardly be separated when pitted against one another!

Betting tips: Pick a Wanderers win at $1.63 (Unibet)

Also pick the Wanderers to win the most corners at $1.73 (Unibet)

And look for both H1 and H2 to see 1+ goals each at $1.36 (TopSport)

Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC

Wednesday January 15, 5:00pm
Sky Stadium

Sydney FC

For the ‘Nix’ last round in New Zealand they were in all sorts of trouble as Adelaide eventually came away with a 2-1 win. Firstly for Wellington it was Matthew Sheridan who unfortunately scored an own goal just seven-minutes in. Then fast forwarding to the 75th minute it was Luka Jovanovic who scored the match winner much to the home sides disbelief. And some other stats that paint Wellington’s performance pretty bluntly is the fact that the ‘Reds’ held them to just 2/8 shooting-wise and in the first half alone the Phoenix mustered up just one shot in total. They’ve also lost four out of their last seven games at home, as a high-flying Sydney FC team comes to town. Giancarlo Italiano has plenty to do to get his side firing at home.

The ‘Sky blues’ last round were at their scintillating best as they thrashed the Mariners 4-1 at Allianz Stadium thanks in no small part to a classy hattrick from young gun Adrian Segecic who now has seven goals across all competitions this season. His final goal to complete the lot was an absolutely beauty as he smashed it in from outside the box, past a flat-footed Dylan Peraic-Cullen and into the back of the net. Sydney to their credit are now unbeaten in their last five consecutive matches and have won two games in a row. Prior to this they smacked the Glory about 3-0 and two games previously it was the Victory, also by the exact same scoreline. They are now just four-points off the top of the ladder and with plenty of games left to play, they’ll be looking to make a commanding run under the guidance of Ufuk Talay. However when these two rivals last versed each other it all went wrong for Sydney, as Wellington came away with a strong 2-1 victory at Eden Park. Despite Robert Mak scoring just six-minutes in, the Phoenix fought back and eventually won it in the 69th minute courtesy of former ‘Sky Blue’ Kosta Barbarouses as his shot into the bottom-left corner beat Andrew Redmayne easily. With Wellington currently in 10th position and seven points out from 6th, they’ll sure as hell be hoping that history repeats itself right here!

Betting tips: Back a ‘Sky Blues’ victory at $1.91 (Betfair)

Also back influential Midfielder Joe Lolley to score anytime at $3.05 (Unibet)

And look for Sydney to score first at $1.66 (TopSport)
