At this stage of the season not may would’ve picked Western United to be in 3rd and Auckland FC in 1st, but that’s the case and rightfully so! And on Saturday night we are lucky enough to witness the two inform teams go head to head in what is sure to be a battle that goes down to the wire. John Aloisi’s Men have won an incredibly impressive six of their last nine games + two draws to boot as well. Whilst 3X consecutive Manager of the Month Steve Corica has guided his side to be undefeated in six of their last seven away games. If the ‘Green & Black’ can pull out an upset win then the gap between them and their rivals will be just four-points. But if the ‘Black Knights’ go on another powerful ‘crusade’ then the gap will be ten-points. In a tense affair between to A-League giants, who will emerge victorious?

Auckland’s latest three results; W 2-1 vs Macarthur @ Go Media Stadium, W 1-0 vs Western Sydney @ CommBank Stadium and D 2-2 vs Adelaide @ Coopers Stadium.

Last time they met; 4-0 to Western @ Go Media Stadium. Goals were scored by Riku Danzaki 17′, Noah Botic 23′, Hiroshi Ibusuki 34′ and Matthew Grimaldi 87′.

With the Wanderers preparing to face off against the ‘Bulls’ there are countless flare-infused and cow-bell ringing related reasons as to why this Derby has yet another level to reach. When these two arch-rivals last met it was Macarthur who prevailed 3-2 in a classic battle for the ages at CommBank Stadium. Neither teams were trigger shy as the victors shot 5/17 on target. Whilst the ‘Red & Black’ landed 4/20 in the zone. Aside from that within the first half alone we witnessed four goals, including Juan Mata’s solo A-League strike to date. And when Western Sydney defender Anthony Pantazopoulos scored 10-minutes into the start of the second-half that meant it was game on. These two teams don’t disappoint when pitted against one another. A win for the hosts would catapult them into a finals position, whilst the ‘Bulls’ could ‘charge’ up as high as 3rd on the table. Don’t miss what is surely going to be a fiercely contested encounter.
