Highlanders

Highlanders vs. Hurricanes

Hurricanes

The Highlanders enter this game on the back of wins over the Blues and Moana Pasifika – two sides that the Hurricanes have just lost to. The Highlanders are looking to end a seven-game losing streak to the Hurricanes, but the Southern side had a terrible recent record against all Kiwi sides and they got the monkey off their back by beating the Blues in Round 2. The Hurricanes haven’t lost a game by 13+ over the last twelve months, so I will pick the Highlanders to win in a close contest. I would back the Highlanders 1-12 at 3.05 (Unibet).

Brumbies

Brumbies vs. Fijian Drua

Fijian Drua

The Brumbies have gone 10-1 as the favourite over the last twelve months. They already beat the Drua in Fiji this season and they now take them on in Canberra, where they have a 0-3 record. The Drua have lost 17 consecutive games away from home. The margin stats are mixed, so I will simply back the Brumbies in the head-to-head at 1.24 (Betfair).

Crusaders

Crusaders v Force

Force

The Crusaders thrashed the Reds 43-19 to extend their home winning streak to four games. The Crusaders also covered the line in all of those victories. Over the last twelve months the Cantabrians have gone 6-1, both in the head-to-head and the line, at home. The Force, meanwhile, enter this game on the back of a 31-point defeat to the Waratahs in Sydney. The Perth side has gone 1-6 in the head-to-head and 2-5 at the line away from home over the last twelve months. Five of those six away defeats were by 13+ margins and four of the Force’s previous five away defeats against the Crusaders were by 13+ margins. I would back the Crusaders 13+ at 1.44 (Unibet).

Chiefs

Chiefs vs. Blues

Blues

This bet assumes that Damian McKenzie returns for the Chiefs this week after he wasn’t risked for their trip to Fiji. The Blues, meanwhile, will be without their talisman in Beauden Barrett after he suffered a broken hand against the Brumbies. The Blues failed to score a point in the second half without him last week and they are now 1-3 for the season. The Chiefs have gone 7-1 at home over the last twelve months and they have won eight of the last ten games as the home favourite against the Blues. The Chiefs covered the line in their last three home games while the Blues are 0-4 at the line this season. The Chiefs already defeated the Blues in Auckland in Round 1 and with Barrett sidelined, it will be a tall order for the struggling Blues to return the favour. The margin stats are mixed, so I will simply back the Chiefs in the head-to-head at 1.44 (bet365).
