There are slim picking this week.

For the Highlanders vs. Reds, my first instinct was to back the Reds due to their 31-0 win over the Highlanders last season. The Reds, however, have gone 1-7 at the line away from home over the last twelve months and 0-5 at the line as the away favourite. They have lost five in a row in Dunedin, while the Highlanders have a 2-0 record over the last twelve months as the home favourite. It’s a case of instinct says Reds while the stats suggest Highlanders.

Similarly, for the Blues v Crusaders, my first instinct was to back the Crusaders due to their 3-1 record this season and comfortable home wins over the last two weeks. The Cantabrians, however, are 0-6 away from home over the last twelve months, while the 1-4 Blues will be desperate for a win. The Blues’ last two defeats were each by one point. It’s a case of instinct says Crusaders, while the stats suggest Blues.

Waratahs

Waratahs vs. Brumbies

Brumbies

After making a 3-0 start to the season, the Waratahs were brought back down to Earth with a 35-15 defeat to the Reds in Brisbane. They were clearly the second best team on the day. The NSW side has a 2-8 record on the back of a defeat over the last twelve months. The Brumbies enter this game on the back of an away win over the Blues and a convincing home win over the Fijian Drua. Over the last twelve months the Waratahs have gone 1-8 as the underdog while the Brumbies have gone 9-1 as the favourite. The Brumbies have won 13 in a row against the Waratahs and 8 in a row in Sydney. With all of the above being said. This should be a competitive contest. Eight of the Brumbies’ last nine away wins over the Waratahs were by 1-12 points. Over the last twelve months, all five of the Brumbies’ away wins were by 1-12 margins. The Waratahs, despite a torrid 2024, have only lost one home game by 13+ over the last twelve months. I would back the Brumbies 1-12 at 2.95 (Unibet).
