Auckland FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers

Saturday April 05, 3:00pm

Go Media Stadium

Western Sydney Wanderers

A win for Auckland gets them one step closer to a first-place finish, whilst a victory for Western Sydney could boost them as high as second on the ladder. The ‘Black Knights’ have conjured up 17 goals over the course of their last five home affairs. Whilst the ‘Red & Black’ haven’t been too shabby themselves with nine strikes over their last three away appearances. That’s thanks in no small part to experienced Uruguayan Forward Guillermo May for the hosts who is equal fourth in the A-League’s goal scoring charts with eight goals + two assists. Meanwhile for the visitors young Forward Nicholas Milanovic is equal 2nd with 10 goals + six assists, as he’s having a career best year. Steve Corica’s Men are playing their inaugural campaign as we speak, whilst Alen Stajcic’s troops haven’t finished 2nd or better since the 2015/16 season. Both sides understand the importance of this rivalry, as we’ll undoubtedly see it all left out on the field.

Both sides ought to be confident of a win given that last round Auckland beat Brisbane 2-0 at Suncorp Stadium, whilst a brilliantly-worked 90th minute equaliser to Mialnovic saw Western Sydney share the spoils at Sky Stadium against the Phoenix. Neither sides performances were five stars, however they flashed enough potential to display just how dangerous they can really be on their day.

If it’s not May or Milanovic that should be worrying either team, then Hiroki Sakai certainly should be. Against the Roar the Auckland Defender put the icing on the cake with a sweet strike in the 83rd minute and has been a work-horse all season long for the newly inducted A-League franchise. He’s played 83% of the minutes available to him and is a rock at the back. Western Sydney’s pursuit of a bounty of goals may well be stopped by that Man right here.

Betting tips:

Back Auckland to win at $1.98 (UniBet)

Also look for them to score first and last at $1.57 (Bet365) and $1.70 (Dabble), respectively

And look for both H1 + H2 to witness goals at $1.47 (Bet365)

Adelaide United

Adelaide United vs Sydney FC

Saturday April 05, 7:35pm

Coopers Stadium

Sydney FC

When Adelaide and Sydney were last pitted against one another it was the ‘Sky Blues’ who came up trumps 4-1, thanks in no small part to Adrian Segecic who put the hosts up by two in the 75th minute, then Anthony Caceres who added another eight-minutes later. Whilst previously to that a hectic 3-3 stalemate played out at Coopers Stadium, as Douglas Costa in the 89th minute then Jordan Courtney-Perkins in the 5th minute of added time ensured that they took home the craziest of points in A-Leauge history. And before that Sydney prevailed 2-1 in front over over 14,000 spectators at Allianz Stadium. Now they need to channel that energy once again, as a win over Adelaide would boost them into the Top Six at their expense. Whilst for Adelaide they need to re-write history, as a draw or better will see them remain put. Despite losing their last two affairs, the ‘Reds’ have put up seven goals in total, so both sides will be ready and fired up to pour in the goals on Saturday night.

The ‘Reds’ suffered a topsy turvy 5-3 defeat to the Victory at AAMI Park on the weekend, whilst the ‘Sky Blues’ were defeated by a valiant City side 3-2. Both teams arguably should’ve won their respective matches but didn’t do enough to do so. Adelaide fell apart from the 88th-90th minutes as they conceded twice to Nikos Vergos in that time frame. Whilst a scintillating goal to Douglas Costa in which his ball rocketed through Melbourne’s defence was about the only highlight they could take from their disparaging defeat.

Douglas Costa. Recently in Sydney’s do-or-die game against Bangkok United at Thammasat Stadium he produced a long-range screamer in the 100th minute to seal the result. Then despite going down against City even more recently, his powerful strike saw his attempt rip right through Melbourne’s defensive structure before rifling into the back of the net. Adelaide will be on high-alert trying to thwart him at home. Especially because last time out he conjured up a magical double versus them at the exact same venue.

Betting tips: Choose both teams to score at $1.29 (BoomBet)

Also choose for there to be over 3.5 goals scored at $1.80 (Bet365)

And look for Segecic to score or assist anytime at $2.20 (Bet365)
