Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar vs Wellington Phoenix

Saturday April 26, 3:00pm

Suncorp Stadium

Wellington Phoenix

This season neither Brisbane, nor Wellington have had much to cheer home about. However this matchup represents a great chance for both sides to pick up a rare victory for the campaign. The Roar recently broke their year + long home drought of not having won at Suncorp. Whilst the ‘Nix’ last round fought back valiantly at Coopers against Adelaide, pegging back a two-goal deficit to 2-2, before being blasted by an 89th minute winner to the ‘Reds’. Phoenix legend Kosta Barbarouses has picked up 10 goals this campaign and has 2 strikes + 2 assists from his last five games. Whilst 27-year-old former Portuguese youth international Attacker Asumah Abubakar has been a breath of fresh air this season for Brisbane with four goals and an assist from just nine games. Playing in Switzerland for the Grasshoppers earlier this season he offers a different dynamic to the hosts attack. And is somebody who just scored a screamer from outside the box versus Adelaide. Never discount what appears to be a regular old game of Football in the A-League, because your eyes will certainly deceive you!

Giancarlo Italiano unlike his rival manager Ruben Zadkovich has rarely been mentioned this season. Wellington went from being a game away from the Grand Final last season to sputtering and spurting in this one. If the ‘Nix’ do go down here surely his name comes up as a fireable candidate??? Especially so with their cross-city rivals Auckland playing the league on easy mode at the moment.

Betting tips: Look for Brisbane to win the game at $1.90 and the corner count at $1.40 (Bet365)

Also look for both teams to score at $1.60 (Dabble)

Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers

Saturday April 26, 5:00pm

McDonald Jones Stadium

Western Sydney Wanderers

The last three contests between Newcastle and Western Sydney have averaged five goals a piece. Whilst before that a 1-1 draw in the Hunter Valley occurred between the two rivals where a flurry of late chances from the hosts via Trent Buhagiar and Jason Hoffman saw them unable to break the ice-cold deadlock. These two sides never disappoint and in the case of the Jets a last ever home win for departing coach Rob Stanton would be the perfect way to send him off. Whilst the ‘Red & Black’ can still chase down a Top Two spot. Expect fireworks to ensue!

Rob Stanton reportedly asked Jets ownership for some extra resources to help aid his sides unforeseen push towards the finals and was denied. Could we see some heated emotions from the ex-NSL Championship victor or some ‘harsher’ words be spoken at the conclusion of the game??? One can only imagine what might occur here.

Betting tips: Pick both sides to find the back of the net at $1.29 (BoomBet)

Also pick the Wanderers to find the back of the net with the games last goal at $1.77 (Dabble)

And look for Western Sydney to win the corner count at $2.10 (Bet365)

Melbourne City

Melbourne City vs Adelaide United

Saturday April 26, 7:35pm

AAMI Park

Adelaide United

A win for Melbourne City and they virtually assure themselves of a Top Two spot. However a victory for Adelaide United would keep their finals hopes alive. And given this is the ‘Reds’ last match of the season, they will undoubtedly come out all guns blazing in what could very well be Carl Veart’s last ever game in charge of the club he won an illustrious Premiership with as a player. Melbourne are unbeaten in their last four and Adelaide two, as both teams will be looking to posses a razor sharp edge headed to AAMI Park. Kai Trewin scored twice last round for City, while Archie Goodwin has 13 goals for the season and just two games ago smashed home his sides 89th minute winner against Wellington. However Trewin and Goodwin aren’t the only two superstars two look out for here, as plenty of others will be making their mark with the season winding down!

Topsy turvy is exactly how Adelaide have been playing lately. One minute their finals hopes are seemingly fading by the second after conceding a crushing winner to Sydney at home, then they inflict similar pain on Wellington and then just today coughed up a 1-1 stalemate against, checks notes, Brisbane. Who really knows what to expect here??? Any possible version of the ‘Reds’ could come out to compete.

Betting tips: Back Melbourne to come out on top at $1.85 (Bet365)

Also back the collective corners to be at 11+ at $2.00 (Bet365)

And look for both teams to score at $1.43 (BoomBet)
